We’ve all heard Get Lucky, Happy, and his latest album “GIRL” – currently pleasing ears the world over – but today’s news reveals that singer, songwriter, producer, and now fashion and fragrance magnate Pharrell Williams is collaborating with Japanese designer powerhouse, Comme Des Garçons on a new scent deal.
As the brand responsible for some of the most inventive scents available on the market today, the collaboration marks the first time that Rei Kawakubo has worked with a musician on a fragrance. After an opulence of collaborations with Louis Vuitton, Moncler, and the recent announcement of an upcoming G-Star partnership, Pharrell shows no signs of slowing down in putting his stamp on the fashion world. Upon release of the news, Pharell remarked;
“As one of my favorite designers once said, ‘Comme des Garçons is your favourite designer’s favorite designer… the top of the top, the best of the best.”
He might have learnt a lesson or two about fragrance production from the masters over at Comme des Garçons, but Williams didn’t show up to the project empty handed. Comme des Garçons CEO Adrian Joffe confirmed that Pharrell, “knew exactly what he wanted the perfume to smell like right from the beginning.” in a recent report from Vogue Australia.
Amazing Green, 2 Man, Wonderwood, 2 Silver Words… What can we expect from ‘Girl’?
While the scent will be named GIRL (a not-so-subtle nod to his recent musical offering), the new fragrance is intended for both men and women. Though no official information has been released yet on the ingredients of the liquid (presumably housed within a pebble-esque bottle that CDG are oh-so fond of), It’s safe to say that if the fragrance is as good as it’s namesake musical companion, it’s likely to be one of the best releases of the year.
The Pharrell Williams x COMME des GARCONS “Girl” fragrance will hit retailers September 2014.
