Oasis Reunion – what we know so far

After years of speculation, the news that every music fan has been waiting for has been announced. Oasis, the biggest band in the world in the nineties and early noughties are getting back together and are going on tour.

The band have confirme the highly-anticipated reunion with brothers Liam and Noel both sharing the news on their social media. It will coincide with a long awaited run of UK and Ireland shows as part of their OASIS LIVE 25 world tour which is also expected to hit North America at a later date. Tour locations will include Cardiff, Manchester, London, Edinburgh and Dublin which kicks off in Cardiff on the 4th July and will include 4 dates at Wembley Stadium and 4 nights at Manchester’s Heaton Park.

As things stand, the UK and Ireland gigs are the only shows Oasis are playing in Europe next year and it’s set to be one of the biggest gigs of the century. The band aren’t immune to the palpable excitement generated by this revelation saying:

“The guns have fallen silent.

The stars have aligned.

The great wait is over.

Come see.

It will not be televised.”

I last saw Oasis in 2008 and have seen Liam and Noel perform independently several times since then, but like millions of other Oasis fans, I couldn’t be more excited for the forthcoming Oasis shows.

So, why now? Tomorrow marks the 30th anniversary of the band’s seminal debut album ‘Definitely Maybe’ and the band’s break up on 28th August 2009. So, if you believe in the numbers then yesterday’s announcement of the band getting back together feels very serendipitous.

2025 will see Oasis’ the equally essential second record ‘(What’s The Story) Morning Glory?’ reach that same anniversary, so essence, timing is everything and there’s no surprise that Oasis have succumbed to the phenomenal public demand of getting the band back together.

The press release was accompanied by a striking black and white photo of Noel and Liam together captured by photographer Simon Emmett.

As well as their impressive back catalogue, the band’s critical acclaim speaks for itself and their accolades include six BRIT Awards, including the Outstanding Contribution to British Music, two Ivor Novellos, and seventeen NME Awards.

Oasis fans will be used to the clamor for tickets, many will have attended two of the band’s groundbreaking Knebworth gigs where they famously played to 125,000 people each night. Other big moments included two headline sets at Glastonbury in 1995 and 2004; huge homecoming shows at Manchester City’s Maine Road stadium; and a run of Wembley Stadium gigs which were documented in the live album ‘Familiar To Millions’.

Oasis mania is in full throttle with the band’s music enjoying a huge increase of 690% with tracks like ‘The Shock Of The Lightning’, ‘Bag It Up’ and ‘Turn Up The Sun’ seeing some of the biggest increases.

Will Oasis play any festivals such as Glastonbury?

Despite much speculation, the band have confirmed today on social media that Oasis will NOT be playing Glastonbury or any other music festivals this year and that the only way to see the band perform live is to catch them on the Live’ 25 World Tour.

What will the Oasis line up be?

So far, it has only been confirmed that Liam and Noel will reunite, with no details yet of the musicians who will join them on stage. Fans have been discussing which previous members of Oasis will be join Noel and Liam in the 2025 line up of the band,

The band’s original line up included rhythm guitarist Paul ‘Bonehead’ Arthurs, bassist Paul “Guigsy” McGuigan and drummer Tony McCarroll, but whilst many anticipate that Bonehead might join the brothers, others are opting for Gem Archer, who took over from following Bonehead in 1999.

He, along with previous Oasis drummer Chris Sharrock are two members of Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds and both would make welcome additions to the band. When it comes to bass players, former Oasis band member Andy Bell would be an excellent choice. He was the bassist for Oasis from 1999 until their famous break-up in 2009 and wrote songs like ‘Turn up the sun’ from 2005’s ‘Don’t Believe The Truth’.

In recent years, Bonehead has performed with Liam, joining Liam on stage last year at Liam’s gig at London’s KOKO.

Despite being part of the original line up, it’s expected that drummer Tony McCarroll and Guigsy will not be part of the Oasis reunion. Also unlikely to make a return is Alan White who was part of the band from 1995 to 2004.

Who will support Oasis in 2025?

There are various names being bandied about. Villanelle, which features Liam’s youngest son Gene, are likely to be offered one of the opening support slots. Other bands and acts that are being touted for an Oasis support act include indie rockers Blossoms, Kasabian, Fontaines DC, Richard Ashcroft amongst others.

We can’t wait for next summer, will you be trying to get Oasis tickets? We know we will!
