What’s On In London In October: World Champagne Day, Gillian Anderson’s New Play, And A Riviera-Inspired Pop-Up

Autumn is one of the most magical time of year in London. From champagne popups to lavish seasonal dinners and restorative spa treatments, ’tis the season for treating yourself to something comforting and indulgent. These are our top picks for October in London…

Roll-neck jumpers, crisp walks, Sunday roasts, and candlelit dining: we’ve arrived in cosy season in London, as the nights get darker and the weather has finally shifted after a long, hot summer. New research from the Celtic Manor Resort pinpoints 24th September as the time when Brits swap sunshine for autumnal rituals such as Sunday roasts, hot chocolate, pumpkin spice and log fires. Meaning we’re well into the season of intimate wine bars, seasonal dinner parties, comforting treatments and cosy nights in with a recipe box to make cooking from scratch a little bit easier.

The summer months can be sleepier when it comes to hospitality in the city, but autumn is when things really start to ramp up, with new dining launches, wine bar events and cocktail menus that reflect the new season. Whether your autumn plans involve wellness events, wine tastings, or lengthy Sunday roast sessions that last into fairy-lit evenings, these are the London autumn events worth knowing about. Lauren Kate Hughes rounds up the best events to try for October and beyond.

La Petite Maison is launching a new Riviera-inspired café concept, kicking off this autumn with a year-long residency set within the beautiful surroundings of one of London’s most beautiful hotels, The Lanesborough. Inspired by glamorous all-day cafés in the Côte d’Azur, menu highlights include tapenade with garlic croutons, smoked aubergine caviar with tomato and chives, burrata tartine with tomatoes, as well as larger plates such as marinated octopus with paprika, potatoes and chickpeas, as well as the classic sirloin steak baguette served with gaufrette potatoes.

Gillian Anderson is starring in Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf on the West End

Gillian Anderson is back on the West End starring as Martha in a new revival of Edward Albee’s Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? at Soho Place. Albee’s classic 1962 play follows a middle-aged couple whose toxic marriage unravels over a late-night nightcap. After they lure a younger couple to join them one evening, what begins as seemingly harmless drinks turns into a long night of psychological games and alcohol-fueled confessions. It’s intense and gripping, with a ripple of dark comedy throughout the engaging script – and it’s shaping up to be one of the hottest tickets of the autumn.

The whole team is excited to learn from his skills and techniques.” While Joshua says, “For me, as a chef, it represents the pinnacle of working with wild food. You see the animal in its natural habitat, observe its life and behaviour, and help to manage the wildlife in a way that creates the best possible environment for the game, as well as ensuring the meat is in the very best condition for consumption.

“Chefs have an important role to play in preparing and presenting all game in a refined and accessible way, allowing people to experience it very differently from how they may have encountered it in the past. It does not need to be heavy, strongly flavoured or intimidating; it can be treated with delicacy and used in an enormous variety of dishes.” Tables are available for booking now through the CORD website (Holland & Holland Game Dinner at CORD).

Artur Voloshin, founder of Prince Arthur, commented, “Prince Arthur’s restaurant chapter at 11 Pimlico Road has been an incredibly important part of our journey. We are immensely proud of what the team created in Belgravia and grateful to every guest, neighbour, supplier and member of staff who supported us there.
