With six generations in your family’s gemstone business, you carried that legacy forward by creating Patrick Boghossian Jewellery, a brand that turns heritage into modern design. Was there a particular moment when you felt inspired to move from sourcing stones to actually creating with them?
Absolutely. It all began when friends asked me to help them source diamonds for their engagement rings. That in itself was emotional, to be part of such an important chapter in their lives.
Soon after, they began asking if I could also make the rings. At first, I leaned on classic designs — but my love for drawing and design quickly took over, and I started encouraging them to embrace something more artistic and personal.
That’s when I realised my passion wasn’t just for gemstones, but for creating pieces that hold deep meaning for people. Compared to trading stones business-to-business, this shift felt much more fulfilling, making something unforgettable.
The Creative Process: Where Every Design Begins
When you begin a new design, do you usually start with the stone, the structure, or the story behind it?
It really depends on the project. With bespoke clients, sometimes it begins with the stone — the perfect diamond cut or a vibrant sapphire. Other times, it’s about symbolism, shapes, or meaning.
For my collections, inspiration often starts with my travels and the photographs I take. I focus on lines, colours, and overall structures. I sketch, think about how the piece will look and feel on the skin, how it can be manufactured, and only then dive into sourcing gemstones that match my vision. It’s not always easy to find the exact stones I have in mind — the right hue, shape, or size — but when it comes together, it’s incredibly rewarding.
You emphasise conflict-free stones and ethical sourcing. In practice, how do you actually trace a gem from mine to your workshop? What does that detective work look like?
It starts with choosing the right partners. I only work with suppliers who share my commitment to transparency and fair practice. All my diamonds are Kimberley Process compliant, and coloured gemstones come from ResponsibleJewelleryCouncil-certified partners with full traceability. Clients can know the origin of their stone, even down to the cutters who shaped it.
For me, sustainability isn’t a trend but a responsibility. I encourage recycled metals and upcycling, redesigning old or unworn jewellery into something new. I also offer lab-grown diamonds made with renewable energy, which reduce carbon footprint. At the end of the day, I want each piece to respect both people and the planet.
From Sketch to Stone: The Art of Creation
Walk me through the life of one piece — from the first idea to the moment you place it in someone’s hands. Where in that journey do you feel the greatest creative fulfilment?
A bespoke piece starts with a simple conversation. I listen to the client’s story and vision, and together we explore what they want the jewel to represent and look like. From there, I sketch, refine ideas, and create 3D renders until the design feels just right.
Then comes gemstone sourcing, which is still one of my passions from my trading background. Once the stones are secured, I collaborate with the most skilled Armenian craftsmen in Lebanon, artisans who have passed down their expertise for generations.
The greatest fulfilment, though, comes at the very end. When clients see their piece for the first time, emotions often take over. I’ve seen stunned silence, shaking hands, and even tears. Those reactions remind me that jewelry isn’t just an object, but a vessel for life’s most meaningful moments.
Your work with Patrick Boghossian Jewellery is recognised for its architectural lines. How did architecture become part of your design DNA, and what keeps it central to your style?
Architecture has always fascinated me, partly because I grew up around family members who were architects. But it was really my wife, Daniela, who transformed the way I look at the world. She says, “When you become an architect, you walk around looking up.” That stuck with me.
Combined with my passion for photography, I began capturing shapes, light, and structures everywhere I traveled. Those impressions naturally found their way into my jewellery, shaping my aesthetic and keeping architecture at the heart of my work.
Meaning in Every Moment: Designing for Life’s Milestones
Jewellery often marks life’s milestones. How has creating for those moments shaped your philosophy as a craftsman?
Designing for milestones has given my work deeper meaning. My philosophy is rooted in purpose: each piece must carry emotional weight and be crafted to perfection. In jewellery, there’s no room for “almost finished.” We don’t rest until every detail is flawless. That pursuit of perfection isn’t just technical; it’s emotional. I design knowing that what I create will hold a permanent place in someone’s life story.
Was there a bespoke commission that taught you something unexpected about what jewellery can mean to someone?
One of the most moving projects was a pendant for a man who had survived cancer three times. We designed a gold disk representing the circle of life, with a hammered texture to symbolize the struggles and obstacles along the way. Minimalist in form, but powerful in meaning. We engraved initials on the back, and today, he never takes it off. That project reminded me how jewellery can be both aesthetic/minimalistic and profoundly symbolic.
I design knowing that what I create will hold a permanent place in someone’s life story.

You’re bringing Lebanese heritage into London’s luxury scene. What has surprised you most about how different markets have responded to your work?
It’s been fascinating to see how different collections resonate around the world. Europeans tend to love Cascade, with its delicate gold lines and discreet elegance. The Gulf has embraced Waterfall and Red Bricks, which are bold and gemstone-heavy. Steps to Heaven, with its vibrant colors and distinctive structures, has found admirers across Europe, the Middle East, and the US. It’s rewarding to see how one vision can speak in different ways to different cultures.
If your six-year-old self could see Patrick Boghossian Jewellery today, what would surprise him most — and what would you hope he’d see the house becoming in the years ahead?
I think he’d be proud of the courage. As a shy child who once struggled to speak up, I would never have imagined becoming an entrepreneur in such a competitive industry. It takes resilience, patience, and focus, and I’ve grown into that.
Being selected as a finalist at Fashion Trust Arabia has been a huge milestone. It makes me even more determined to keep pushing the boundaries of design and storytelling.
Looking ahead, I hope the brand continues to expand internationally and finds clients who truly connect with my vision. For me, success isn’t just growth; it’s creating more jewellery that people will cherish for generations.
Nature, Travel, and the Art of Recharge
Our readers are passionate travellers who seek authentic luxury experiences. What’s a destination that fundamentally changed how you see colour, form, or beauty? How did that place find its way into your jewellery?
Iceland. That country completely transformed my artistic eye. Its landscapes — black sand beaches, volcanic rocks, powerful waterfalls, glaciers, geysers — felt like another planet. Nature there is raw, intense, and unforgettable.
That experience inspired several of my collections. Steps to Heaven reflects its raw structures, Cascade and Waterfall echo its flowing streams and light. Iceland reminded me of the power of nature, and that awe finds its way into my designs.
When you take time off, what kind of destination helps you truly switch off and recharge?
My family chalet in the Lebanese mountains is my true escape. Just an hour from Beirut’s chaos, you’re surrounded by nature at over 2,000 meters altitude. That’s where I learned to ski, cycle, and camp — memories that still recharge me today. The fresh air, the stars at night, the silence, it’s grounding.
That said, I also love the sea and adventures. Trips like a safari in Tanzania or sailing along the Turkish coast stay with me forever. And beyond nature, visiting vibrant cities with rich culture and history also fuels me.
I love street photography, and some of my most inspiring moments came from wandering the streets of Buenos Aires on a solo trip before heading to Patagonia, or immersing myself in the energy of Mumbai and Surat in India, where I discovered the depth and artistry of diamond cutting.
Nature, and cities, both find a way to recharge me and spark new creativity.
