There comes a point during every shopping trip when your feet have had enough, your arms are aching from carrying bags, and all you can think about is where you’re going to eat. After hours of weaving in and out of the shops around Covent Garden, I was more than ready to swap my shopping bags for a glass of wine and a great steak.
That’s exactly where STK The Strand comes in.
Nestled just a stone’s throw from Covent Garden, The Strand, and the West End, STK is perfectly positioned for a post-shopping pit stop. Whether you’ve spent the afternoon exploring quirky independent stores around Seven Dials, indulging in retail therapy on Regent Street, or simply soaking up the vibrant energy of central London, STK The Strand offers a stylish and welcoming spot to recharge and dine.
I’d been to STK before, famous for its “vibe dining” experience, and I was a fan – the DJs, the moody low lighting, and a large, buzzing bar that gives the whole place a bit of a nightclub feel. But I was curious to see how it felt on a quieter evening, so I headed there mid-week before 8 pm. The atmosphere was still stylish and lively but dialled down just enough to feel more relaxed and intimate. You get the same polished interiors, great music, and lively vibe, but it’s easier to settle in for a proper meal and conversation without feeling rushed or overwhelmed by the crowds.
After a long day on my feet, sliding into one of their plush booths was exactly what I needed. The mood shifted quickly from the hustle and bustle of London streets to a more glamorous dining setting, where the shopping frenzy felt miles away and my focus turned to enjoying good food and company.
STK The Strand: Steak Night Menu
I was there to try the Steak Night set menu, which is a brilliant option if you want to experience STK’s signature steak without the commitment of the full à la carte menu. At £40 per person for three courses, it offers excellent value for central London, especially from a brand like STK. The menu is more limited, of course, but that’s to be expected. I did want an extra side, and it took a bit of convincing to get the server to agree to go off-menu, but we managed it in the end.
Before the starters even arrived, we were treated to STK’s infamous warm brioche with blue cheese butter. Rich, indulgent, and utterly addictive, it’s the kind of thing you tell yourself to have just one piece of, but somehow, another chunk sneaks onto your plate. My advice? Don’t get too carried away with this one or you might not have room left for dessert.
For starters, we shared the Lil’ BRGs, STK’s signature mini sliders. Tiny but packed with flavor, these juicy little burgers in soft, glossy buns disappeared far too quickly. Topped with STK’s special sauce, they were the perfect bite-sized introduction to the meal.
Then came the main event: the steak. I went for the 200g Filet with a £15 supplement, and it was cooked perfectly to my liking – tender, juicy, and bursting with flavour. The simplicity of the dish really lets the quality of the meat shine through. Personally, I didn’t even need the steak sauce, just a sprinkle of rock salt was enough to enhance the taste. It came with super crispy fries and, for sides, I ordered broccoli and we successfully convinced the waiter to add a side of mac and cheese to the table.
That mac and cheese deserves a special mention. Creamy, comforting, and unapologetically indulgent with a crunchy topping, it was the perfect foil to the steak’s richness and the crispy fries.
By the time we finished our mains, I was utterly stuffed and there was no way I could manage dessert, which was a shame because the set menu includes tempting options like New York Cheesecake, Warm Chocolate Chip Cookie with vanilla ice cream and caramel sauce, or Apple Crumble.
Drinks aren’t included in the set menu price, but for an extra £20, you can get either two cocktails or two glasses of house wine. It’s a nice add-on if you want to elevate the experience without going overboard.
Is STK The Strand worth a visit?
What I really appreciated about my mid-week visit was how it managed to balance feeling special with being relaxed and approachable. It’s glamorous without being stuffy or intimidating. Whether you’re celebrating a special occasion, catching up with friends, or just treating yourself after a long day of shopping in London, STK The Strand delivers on all fronts.
The Steak Night set menu won’t offer the same variety as a full à la carte meal, but for anyone wanting a quality steak in a stylish setting without the hefty price tag, it’s an excellent choice. Add in the buzzing atmosphere, attentive service, and those little extra touches that STK is known for, and it’s easy to see why this spot remains a favourite.
