Sylvia has built this business from the ground up, after leaving a high powered role in the financial industry and her tenacity and positive attitude has got her through.
We spent some time with her to find out more..
Tell us about the journey that lead you to launching your Brown Pepper Handbags…
After years of having a devoted corporate career in the Financial Industry, in the City of London, it was time for me to live out my dream and to take ownership of my ambition to start a Business, selling handbags and accessories.
I have always been business orientated and wanted to run a business with a fashion line, that everyone will enjoy. The Business was established in 2019 in Hackney, East London.
This is a rewarding experience for me to source fashionable items and to remain consistent in the Industry. I am extremely passionate in making a contribution toward’s making people happy with exciting purchases.
With that in mind “I am a walking living brand” who is ambitious and passionate, who is willing to go on this journey and take it to the next level!
What sets you apart from other handbag brands?
The range is fun and vibrant with a hint of professionalism and functionality to fit anyone’s lifestyle needs.
Each item is carefully sourced to meet everyone’s expectations and to suit different personalities, If an outfit is important so should a handbag and accessory to compliment you as an individual.
Where do you source your bags and what’s the process when you launch a new collection?
I attend fashion launches in the UK, Europe and seek out carefully selected manufacturer’s and suppliers, I select and plan my next range by doing extensive research and keeping up to date with the next trend.
How have you pivoted during Covid19?
This a difficult year for all concerned – you have to remain mentally focused and think about long term solutions, and make changes that will have a lasting effect for stability and growth.
Our readers love to travel, what destination is at the top of your bucket list?
I love travel but the destination I wish to visit is “Panama”.
What do you do when you’re lacking creativity?
You have to be a motivational thinker and think outside the box!
I like to go for long walks in the local park and try and relax and recharge my Batteries. I find doing any form of exercise and having a nice cup of herbal tea really helps me too!
What does self care mean to you?
Drinking plenty of water combined with healthy eating and good exercise is an excellent antidote for me.
Sticking to this routine gives you scope to remain mentally focused on your health and personal well being.
Looking back over your career, is there anything you would do differently…
My past career has strengthened me to be who I am today – I have gained and collected knowledge to improve and develop a self awareness to define an understanding to manage my own emotions and people around me.
For any aspiring entrepreneurs wanting to launch a jewellery brand, what advice would you offer them in order to build a successful and profitable business?
Research, Research, Research!
Prepare to work hard and put in the hours – remain positive, look for a solution rather than a problem,
Most of all – Enjoy what you do!
How much does social media play a role in your company?
It is an essential marketing tool which brings all communities together.
It gives you scope to connect to customers, increase awareness and promote the brand.
Outside of work, what do you do for fun?
The opportunity is there for me to socialise – I put in so much time and commitment into the business, I don’t have time.
But this will come later and I will make it up to everyone!
How has Covid19 affected your day to day business?
It is a very hard situation to cope with and we have to try and overcome this challenging time. It has had a significant impact to the whole economy.
