Easter Eggs and Hidden Messages – here’s what we know so far about Taylor’s new The Life of a Showgirl album!
It certainly is not Taylor Swift’s first rodeo when it comes to dropping cryptic clues or ‘Easter Eggs’ if you are in the know for her Swifties to fathom out.
However, the singer-songwriter has been serving up clues left, right, and centre these past few months. From mysterious social media posts to using the power of colour, Tay Tay has been an unstoppable force with her teasers and her fans have been eagerly speculating that her 12th studio album — dubbed ‘TS12’ online — was on the horizon.
With the official announcement now made this week, our Music Editor Emma Harrison has compiled all the details we have on the superstar’s upcoming 12th studio album.
What’s the name of Taylor Swift’s new album?
We are very glad you asked! It has been given the intriguing title of The Life of a Showgirl.
How did Taylor Swift announce this exciting news?
The big reveal came via a teaser clip from Travis and Jason Kelce’s New Heights podcast. In it, Taylor gives them an exclusive look at the album cover, although at the time of transmission, it was deliberately blurred (a girl has to have some mystery, right?!)
The full episode dropped at 7 P.M. ET on August 13, which, as any Swiftie knows, is her favorite number. Coincidence? We think not!
What does the artwork look like for The Life of a Showgirl?
Almost immediately after the podcast, Taylor posted an image of the artwork for the album cover for The Life of a Showgirl and quite frankly — it rocks!
Taylor is clearly in yet another era — and we are here for it! The musician posted five photos to her Instagram, including The Life of a Showgirl‘s album cover, which features the singer-songwriter partially submerged in water and was captured by Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott. The photo shows Taylor in a shimmering silver beaded dress and bracelets, partially submerged in water for a striking, almost ethereal effect.
The artwork contains hues of turquoise and orange, which the singer used to tease this new and exciting era of her music.
In one of the five photos, Taylor unveils a bold new look: a sleek black bob paired with a dramatic costume featuring pink ostrich feathers.
The Grammy winner also treated fans to an insight into the full tracklist, which features the highly anticipated song “The Life of a Showgirl” (the album closer), which sees her collaborate with Sabrina Carpenter.

When is The Life of a Showgirl being released?
The album will be released on October 3rd, and quite naturally, there is a reason for this! Ten points to Gryffindor if you have figured this out already?!
Buckle up if you want the finer detail as to why October 3rd has been chosen for The Life of a Showgirl‘s release date.
Taylor is all about the details, and she strategically chose to drop The Life of a Showgirl on October 3rd because, when you add 10 + 3 together, it equals 13 which is Taylor’s lucky number, naturally. She has previously spoken of the importance of the number 13 when she spoke to MTV and revealed that:
“The significance of the number 13 on my hand … I paint this on my hand before every show because 13 is my lucky number; for a lot of reasons — It’s really weird.”
Stick with us as we are going to give you even more tea as the New Heights podcast by the Kelce brothers featuring Taylor and her big reveal aired on August 13th!

Taylor Swift’s The Life of a Showgirl: Everything We Know So Far
Taylor Swift has built an entire era around The Life of a Showgirl, her 12th studio album dropping on October 3rd, a date chosen with characteristic precision given that 10 plus 3 equals her lucky number 13. The album was written during the Eras Tour in Europe, with Taylor flying to Sweden between shows to work with producers Max Martin and Shellback in what she describes as catching lightning in a bottle. At just 12 tracks it is her shortest album to date, yet the tracklist promises everything from an album closer featuring Sabrina Carpenter to deeply personal songs about life beyond the spotlight.
Easter Eggs, Artwork and the Themes Behind the Album
True to form, Taylor dropped carefully placed clues for months before the official reveal on the New Heights podcast. The album artwork, shot by Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott, shows Taylor partially submerged in water wearing a shimmering silver beaded dress, with a colour palette of turquoise and orange that she had been seeding across social media. A second image unveiled a bold black bob and a dramatic costume featuring pink ostrich feathers, signalling a striking new visual era. The singer-songwriter has described the album as coming from the most infectiously joyful, wild, dramatic place in her life, a record about everything happening offstage while the show went on.
When did Taylor Swift write Showgirl?
Never one to rest on her laurels, Taylor revealed on New Heights podcast that she started working on the album whilst she was on the “Eras Tour” in Europe, throughout the spring and summer of 2024. She told the Kelce brothers that:
“I’d do like three shows in a row. I’d have three days off. I’d fly to Sweden, go back to the tour, and actually like working on this. I was physically exhausted at this point in the tour, but I was so mentally stimulated and so excited to be creating,” Swift explained.
Kelce added she was “literally living the life of a showgirl.”

What will the songs from The Life of a Showgirl sound like?
As we eagerly await the new tracks, Taylor has shared that the album’s producers include Max Martin, Shellback, and of course — Taylor Swift herself.
She revealed that:
“The three of us have made some of my favorite songs that I’ve ever done before,” she said on her New Heights podcast appearance. She named “We Are Never Getting Back Together,” “I Knew You Were Trouble,” “22,” “Shake It Off,” “Blank Space,” “Style,” and “Wildest Dreams” as a few of the standouts.
She added, “And so basically, we’ve never actually made an album before where it’s just the three of us. There’s no other collaborators. It’s just the three of us making a focused album…It felt like catching lightning in a bottle, honestly. We hadn’t worked together in like seven or eight years.”
She continued, “They’re just geniuses in different avenues, in different ways.” She recalled telling Martin, “I essentially said to him, ‘I want to be as proud of an album as I am of the “Eras Tour” and for the same reasons,’ you know?”
Swift later said that the album “just comes from like the most infectiously joyful, wild, dramatic place I was in in my life. And so that effervescence has come through on this record.”
She also commented on the theme of the album explaining that:
“I would say it’s everything that was going on behind the curtain.” Her main goal for the album was to create “melodies that were so infectious that you’re almost angry at it. And lyrics that are just as vivid, but crisp and focused and completely intentional.”
What else did Taylor reveal about the album on the podcast?
Whilst she kept some details sacrosanct, she did reveal that:
“This represents the end of my night. So when I’m on tour, I have the same day every single day…And my day ends with me in a bathtub, not usually in a bedazzled dress.”
She continued, “I wanted to sort of like glamorize all the different aspects of how that tour felt. And that’s how that felt to like, be at the end of the night when all this has gone down. You won’t be able to get to bed till four in the morning after this. But you had to jump through 50 million hoops in this obstacle course that is your show. And you did it. You got two more in a row. But you did it tonight.
“And the reason I wanted to have sort of like an offstage moment as the main album cover is because this album isn’t really about what happened to me onstage. It’s about what I was going through offstage. So I didn’t want to have like the lights are bright, I’m on the stage is the main album cover. It’s just this. This, to me, tells more of what the actual content, lyrically, of the album are.”
Calling Showgirl “the record I’ve been wanting to make for a very long time” and one she is “so proud” of, Taylor also explained that the music “just comes from, like, the most infectiously joyful, wild, dramatic place I was in in my life”, a reference, no doubt, to both her “Eras Tour” and her blossoming relationship with Kelce.
“And it just basically was like, I was so proud of the music and so excited about this project from a creative standpoint that I was just like, all hands on deck,” she said of the album. “We’re going all out. This is a full send. I care about this record more than I can even overstate.”
“It’s the life behind it all; it’s the life beyond the show,” she added, speaking about The Life of a Showgirl.
