Here at House of Coco there are few things we like more than chocolate, especially when they are Tuscan AND created by the ultimate #Girlboss…
What better way to end the day than by sampling some of Italy’s finest confectionary in one of London’s most prestigious addresses? So it was that a select group of interesting individuals gathered in Mayfair’s George Club to sample some of Amedei Tuscany’s most delicious chocolates, whilst sat in the company of their creator – Cecilia Tessieri, the world’s first female Maitre Chocolatier.
Cecilia, usually based in Tuscany, was in the UK to promote the range of chocolate that Amedei produces. “At the moment, Amedei has a very good selection of chocolate,” she tells us. She was also on hand to answer our questions about how the chocolate is made, although she stopped short of revealing the recipe, explaining that it is “a secret.” Which is fair enough, since this is the brains behind the six-time winner of the Academy of Chocolate’s Golden Bean award – “a very important moment in my life.” The Academy of Chocolate was founded in 2005 by five of Britain’s leading chocolate professionals (including Patron Michel Roux OBE), and today has become one of the most prestigious awards for elite chocolate producers. Amedei Tuscany chocolate is definitely worthy of being called elite!
So, what does Amedei chocolate actually taste like? “Amedei is a very traditional chocolate,” Cecilia explains. “I like the elegance of the chocolate.” There’s no doubting Cecilia’s passion for her product, though. “Chocolate is my life,” she admits. “The blend of the chocolate is like champagne – every year, I adjust the recipe because the cocoa changes. Every year, the cocoa is completely different. It is not easy to maintain the same quality, but it is very important that you do!” It really wasn’t difficult to witness that dedication to quality, as we sat on the club’s squishy sofas sampling the exquisite chocolate, before being whisked upstairs to delve into a chocolate bomb dessert unlike anything we’d ever tasted before – imagine a hard casing of chocolate with a kick of crackling stardust, filled with ice-cream, melting as hot chocolate sauce is poured over the top of it. As they say in Cecilia’s native Italy, strepitoso!
