Viviana, every jewelry brand begins with a spark of inspiration. What first compelled you to create Viviana Halil?
My mother and I always shared a love for beauty, fashion, and jewelry. We not only shared the love, but I always found myself calling her, or vice versa, for advice on outfits and final looks. She was always someone whose look was never complete until she added that last touch of jewelry. She was an admirer of fine jewelry, yet due to her lack of finances was never really able to indulge.
She passed in 2021, and this collection was brought to life from a passion to create pieces that rival the look of diamonds, meant to revolutionize the way we see diamond alternatives. This was never about selling jewelry; it’s about a lifestyle, an energy that surpasses the status quo.
As a designer, what did you hope to bring to the world of jewelry that you felt was missing?
I hope to inspire people by having them question the need for diamond jewelry. I would love for someone to feel like they can wear a more sustainable option and feel just as good or better than wearing diamonds.
I want to not only create beautiful jewelry, but also inspiring — pieces that allow people to feel good without the need to overspend on diamonds. I want people to view diamond alternatives as the new luxury.
Take us inside your design process: when inspiration strikes, what usually comes first — stone, silhouette, or feeling?
It’s always a feeling. I must feel — if I am not feeling, I am not existing. I am inspired by many things such as jewelry in vintage shops, fashion, lifestyles, but especially by people and places. I love watching how people move through life, what they wear, how they behave and carry themselves.
I love combining the thought or spark of interest in someone who may have caught my eye that I noticed. I draw inspiration from whatever I felt. This feeling can easily turn into a silhouette or color, and the journey begins. I’ve named jewelry after people who I felt I could see when I saw the design. Even my stud collection is like dropping a pin — each piece easily takes me to a moment in time and place for that particular city for which the stud is named after.

I would have to say it’s my mission to make luxury accessible and revolutionize how we view diamond alternatives — that mission is what inspired my love for diamond alternatives. Redefining what “luxury” means today, shows that modern femininity can be both powerful and conscious. I appreciate the beauty of these stones not only for their sustainability but for their ability to captivate attention just as any diamond would. Their creative potential feels limitless to me when it comes to designing.

With visibility comes exposure, and that means not everyone will understand or support what you’re building. When I first started Viviana Halil, I knew I was challenging traditional ideas of what fine jewelry “should” be. Some people don’t share that vision and can be vocal about it. At times, that criticism made me question myself and my purpose.
I’ve learned that being seen also means being judged, and that’s a part of growth. The foundation of Viviana Halil has always been built on intention, craftsmanship, and the belief that luxury can evolve without losing its soul. Even when opinions differ, my vision doesn’t waver. I remind myself that disruption often invites resistance, but it also creates change.

That experience changed how I see design and reminded me that true luxury lives in subtlety, in the way something makes you feel without needing to say a word.

When I need to recharge, I’m drawn to places rich in architecture, art, and music — cities that feel alive with history yet timeless in their beauty. I find peace in quiet museums, old concert halls, and the kind of architecture that tells stories without words.
