Toyota and UNDERCOVER have teamed up to create a limited edition model that showcases the best of both brands. The Aygo X UNDERCOVER made its debut at the Paris Fashion Week in conjunction with the UNDERCOVER Fall 2023 catwalk show and House of Coco’s Editor in Chief, Laura Bartlett, was on the guest list.

The Aygo X UNDERCOVER is a city car that has been reimagined by Jun Takahashi, the head designer of UNDERCOVER. Takahashi’s creative philosophies of non-conformity and breaking stereotypes inspired the design updates, which include a bi-tone grey body colour developed specifically by Toyota, coral red accents around the cabin, and black 18-inch alloy wheels. The branded seats, monogram-patterned floor mats are all examples of the UNDERCOVER influence on the design. A collaboration that we are so here for!

Takahashi said that this was his first experience working on a car, and with Toyota being such a prestigious and innovative Japanese brand, it came with deep emotional meaning and significance. He was excited about fusing together two contradicting worlds and creating a design that is still very much UNDERCOVER while working in harmony with Toyota. Takahashi recognised the significance of colour and how it can impact a person’s driving experience.

Aygo has been Toyota’s most accessible car since the original model was launched in 2005, and it has attracted many new style-conscious buyers to the brand with its youthful and fun character. The on-the-road price for the Aygo X is £20,095 with manual transmissions, we’ll take two.

During our interview with Tadao Mori, Toyota Motor Europe’s Head of Styling Design, prior to the launch party at Sofitel Le Faubourg, he expressed his pride in the Aygo X UNDERCOVER, stating that “Fashion design and car design have a lot in common, but Jun introduced us to completely new ways of looking at colour and ideas for how to make more of everyday details to create something more interesting and unexpected,” he said.

The Aygo X UNDERCOVER is an example of two innovative brands coming together to create a unique and striking product that showcases their respective strengths and they wrapped up their successful car launch day with an exciting after-party held at The Bridge Club. The event provided attendees with a first glimpse of the collaborative effort between the two companies.

It was a grand finale to a remarkable day, celebrating the debut of the unique Aygo X UNDERCOVER, which combines the best of Toyota’s urban design with UNDERCOVER’s rebellious spirit. Tadao Mori, Toyota Motor Europe’s Head of Styling Design, expressed his pride in the new car, noting that “it’s a playful blend of urban design with a touch of punk, evident in the colour scheme and use of diverse materials.”
