InterContinental Madrid has partnered with acclaimed international jeweller, Stephen Webster MBE to bring to life its latest Insider Experience: a partnership with the Sorolla Foundation that gives Royal Suite guests access to a private tour of the Sorolla Museum hosted by Blanca Pons-Sorolla, the great grand-daughter of famous Spanish artist, Joaquín Sorolla.
Set against a backdrop of Sorolla’s paintings and artefacts in the artist’s former home and studio, Stephen explores some of Madrid’s most important artistic heritage and discusses his own creativity, work and shared love for beautiful landscapes.
“When I learn about amazing people, or see incredible landscapes, it provides inspiration for my design sketches and jewellery.”
“Experiences that allow you to scratch beneath the surface of the city are the ones that inspire creativity and make travel really special.”
Drawing inspiration from this unique experience, Stephen has created a one-off jewellery sketch, now in the InterContinental hotel in Madrid.
InterContinental hotels across Europe have collaborated with carefully-selected local partners across food, culture, art and fashion to create unique, tailor made ‘Insider Experiences’ for guests to enjoy both inside and outside the hotel. The Insider Experience from InterContinental Madrid pays tribute to Joaquín Sorolla through a dedicated programme that immerses guests in his life and works.
The experience begins with brunch* at El Jardín restaurant, one of Madrid’s most coveted dining venues, followed by a meeting and private tour of the museum with Blanca Pons-Sorolla. Formerly Joaquín Sorolla’s home and studio, the museum displays some of the notable works that garnered the Impressionist artist his remarkable status worldwide.
Located just a few minutes away from the hotel, the short walk to the museum gives guests the chance to explore the picturesque streets behind the prestigious Paseo de la Castellana in Madrid.
Miguel de la Fuente, Head Chef at InterContinental Madrid treats guests to a special evening menu of King Prawns, Sea Bass and a Citrus Trio of mousses, topped off with a Cosmopolitan cocktail. He explains: “The menu is inspired by the sea, which we know from Sorolla’s paintings was something that really ignited his creativity.”
With views overlooking the Spanish capital, the hotel’s magnificent top-floor Royal Suite provides the perfect setting for guests to relax, unwind and enjoy the atmosphere of the city from the breath-taking outdoor terrace.
