Retro rules! Whether you hanker after the pin up girl style of the 50’s, love to channel a little bit of Stevie Nicks with that dreamy boho vibe or are all about the simple lines and attitude of the mod scene, vintage clothing is where it is at!

One of the first things that I check out when I am visiting a new city is the vintage scene, from Porto to Prague. If there’s a cool vintage shop just waiting to be explored, then trust me I will find it.

It’s like an unwritten rule! Not only does shopping for pre-loved items help create a unique sense of style, it’s also more sustainable making it kinder to the environment.

Whether you are a lover of collecting rare pre-loved designer pieces, love mixing vintage items with high street clothing or are a vintage gal or guy from head to toe, then why not check out these vintage gems in the city of San Francisco?

Wasteland

One of the best places to shop for vintage clothing in the entire city. Wasteland could be renamed ‘Wonderland’ as not only is it a total dream to shop in, but you will wonder where all your dollars have gone as there is so.much.choice!

Whether you are more budget than blowout, you will be sure to find what you are looking for in Wasteland. From cute sixties shift dresses to eighties prom dresses and so much more. Plus, it;s in the heart of one of the coolest districts in San Fran – the Haight which was the epicentre of the hippy scene in the swinging sixties.

Decades of Fashion

Another Haight stalwart is the unmissable ‘Decades of Fashion’ which offers a carefully-curated collection of designer and prestigious vintage items. From coats and swimsuits to vintage slips and hats.

You can even pick up vintage jewelery and accessories to really complete your look. As the name indicates, you will literally find clothing from every decade here.

From clobber that wouldn’t look out of place on ‘Stranger Things’ to 1940’s style tailoring that is reminiscent of an off duty Land Girl.

Quirky, but oh so cool! This shop might be small, but it’s mighty and it is giving us serious ‘Yee ha!’ vibes. It’s in the chic Richmond District having previously been located (you’ve guessed it!) in the Haight-Ashbury district.

If you love a vintage Texan/Western look, you will adore the funky cowboy boots, cute ringer tshirts and quirky re-worked sweatshirts that will make you feel like ‘gitting’ on a horse and yelling ‘giddy up!’.

Blue Bin Vintage

With an ethos of ‘Shop Vintage, Save the Planet’,’ we couldn’t love ‘Blue Bin Vintage’ anymore. Plus, they very handily organise their clothing by era, so if you are all about the denim flares, oversized sunglasses and bell tops, then you can sashay straight over to the ‘70’s.

It’s a beautiful shop with lots of space and even a couple of sofas to sit on whilst you ponder your next vintage pick.

Sui Generis Designer Consignment

If you are strictly a designer gal, then head on over to the treasure trove that is the divine ‘Sui Generis Designer Consignment’ over in the Castro district.

If you are looking for classic vintage pieces from collections past, you are sure to find it here.

Visits to the shop are by appointment only, so be sure to contact the team before you pay a visit to avoid disappointment.

Vacation

Head on up to North Beach for the jewel in San Fran’s crown that is the glorious ‘Vacation’. If your style is a smidge on the quirky side, this vintage clothing shop is most definitely for you.

Think novelty print skirts, raffia picnic basket handbags and vintage Aerosmith tshirts. Although, we can’t help but think that all three items would make one helluva outfit in itself!
