The Waitrose Cookery School festive foodie programme is underway, giving home cooks a helping hand to prepare for a festive season which is set to be like none before. Whether you’re a seasoned cook who is looking for inspiration to bring some added flavour to a smaller gathering than normal, or a first-timer who’ll be taking charge of the apron strings for the first time, the Waitrose Cookery School has a wide selection of virtual courses which also includes some festive junior baking to keep the kids amused too!

First-timers should head straight to our The Perfect ‘Prepare Ahead’ Christmas course (£5) where you’ll be shown that by making key items ahead of time, Christmas lunch can hopefully be enjoyed stress-free.

Star bakers should look out for our Christmas Baking course (£25). Rolling pins at the ready, you’ll make and bake sticky maple buns flavoured with cinnamon and a classic gingerbread loaf which is perfect for gifting and can also be frozen, for those looking to get-ahead.

If Christmas Pudding for two does not appeal and you want to tempt tastebuds with something different this year, enrol on our Spiced Orange Yule Log course (£25). You’ll learn how to whisk up the perfect spiced chocolate sponge, make an indulgent orange curd filling and a dark chocolate orange ganache before learning how to make your yule log a true showstopper with tips on decorating.

When it’s the thought that counts, head to one of three courses which are perfect for gifting for friends, family, neighbours and those who deserve something a little special this Christmas. Watch how to make Pink Peppercorn & Cheddar Biscuits and Tomato & Cumin Chutney – the perfect accompaniments gift for cheese lovers. If your intended recipient has a sweet tooth try either our Panforte and Truffles course or mouthwatering Marshmallows and Hot Chocolate course where you’ll make homemade melt-in-the-mouth marshmallows to serve with a decadent hot chocolate mixture, perfect for gifting. These courses are all just £5.

Helping to keep the kids entertained are two free dedicated childrens courses, Christmas Baking for Kids. During the first course junior chefs will stir up an indulgent chocolate Tiffin with white homemade chocolate tree decorations and the second course will see mini master chefs whip up creative cookies with festive chewy White Chocolate and Cranberry Cookies, flavoured with pecans and fresh cranberries then dipped in white chocolate – we don’t think they’ll last for long!

All courses are virtual courses and range from 45 minutes to two hours and can be booked at experiences.waitrose.com For cook-along courses, ingredients lists will be shared ahead of the course date.
