On the river bank of the Moselle valley stands a hotel so opulent and distinctive, an imposing castle of incredible proportions. Schloss Lieser, one of the latest hotels in the Autograph Collection, is the very epitome of their tagline: “exactly like nothing else”. Featuring 50 individually designed guest rooms and suites, no two rooms are the same. You may have a swing seat overlooking the vineyards, a spiral staircase leading up to your bathroom, you don’t know what you will get in this delectable lucky dip of accommodation.

Schloss Lieser is not your normal hotel by any means. Every room, every surface is dripping with grandeur and sumptuous details (even some of the lifts have chandelier wall lights). It’s a fairy tale castle for grown ups, with wood panelled lounges overlooking the lake, a stunning library and breakfast room, a world class spa, and a restaurant that’s worth the journey alone. Whether you’re an avid instagrammer or luxury travel enthusiast, you will no doubt be thrilled by the attention to detail and splendeur of every nook and cranny of this hotel.

The beds are grand, yet exceptionally comfortable, topped with half a dozen marshmallow soft pillows and separate comforters in case you get a little toasty during the night. Whilst the décor of each bedroom is inkeeping with the period of the building, there are still many modern touches such as flat screen televisions and plenty of sockets and charging points for your phones and electronics.

Many of the bathrooms are boarding on cavernous, with large, double ended bathtubs, waterfall showers, fluffy robes and luxury toiletries. Cementing its well warranted reputation as the perfect location for a romantic weekend away, every room is both large and comfortable enough for those who simply want to enjoy the spa, indulge in some delicious food, and laze around in their room whilst enjoying the view over the lake. Although Schloss Lieser is set amongst stunning scenery, perfect for walkers or those into the great outdoors, it’s a hotel so comfortable and welcoming that you may not want to leave the grounds at all.

The culinary jewel in the crown at Schloss Lieser is the stunning Puricelli restaurant. Headed up by talented young chef, Wolfgang Prebler, the kitchen whips up a menagerie of locally inspired dishes reflecting the culinary history of the hotel and the Moselle valley. Perfectly situated in the heart of rielsling country, you can be rest assured the restaurant staff know exactly which wines to recommend with each course. If you’re a bit of a wine connoisseur yourself, there is a winery within the grounds where you can book tasting sessions alone or as part of a group.

Whilst there is plenty to be said for the stunning interior and warm service of Schloss Lieser, the food really is something to shout about. With a strong emphasis on fresh ingredients, what Wolfgang and his team produce is utter culinary magic. The quality and care put into each and every dish is a strong reflection of Wolfgang’s past experience of working in a Michelin starred restaurant, each mouthful the embodiment of deliciousness itself. No self proclaimed foodie could possibly visit the Moselle region without eating here.

Should you really fall in love with Schloss Lieser (which you undoubtedly will), you can actually get married here. As the hotel was once a private residence, it contains it’s own beautifully restored chapel that can be used for wedding ceremonies and blessings. There is an event room, The Remise, which can hold up to 80 people and has it’s own separate bridal room and courtyard, or if you really want to live the dream, the castle can be hired out exclusively for your wedding or event.
