Looking beyond fashions and trends, Caroline Ann will work with you to help discover your own style, designing interiors which you continue to love, and which work for you, year after year. Whether you want to break all the rules or indulge what you know you love, she can help you make your choices with confidence.
Here, she tells us more…
When did you launch the brand and what was the reason behind it?
Launching my own interior design studio 3 years ago was the start of a new chapter. I am a qualified lawyer but when my twins came along it as an opportunity to prioritise, retrain and pursue a creative life. I’ve always dreamt of running my own business, and being able to do something I’m passionate about is hugely gratifying. It has also been an opportunity for me to provide a creative design service whist utilising my existing skills to ensure a seamless, professional service. It’s undeniably hard work and I am known to work long hours on projects but it it’s hugely rewarding and allows me flexibility to work around my young family.
How many people are involved in the company and what are their roles?
I’m a one-woman business at the moment. Design, project management, social media, finance are all my responsibility and I love it. I’m in the process of taking someone on to support me with bigger projects so that’s exciting. I also have a photographer who I work closely with. Visuals are so important in my business so having a photographer I trust and understands my vision is essential. My beautiful but slightly crazy Labrador is also often found in the studio although his input is fairly limited!
If you could start over with the business, would you do anything differently?
I’ve learnt so much about business and design along the way, but I think that is all part of shaping and developing your business. It allows an element of organic growth. I’m happy with what I’ve done and where I’m at. There’s a lot still to achieve but I’m content with the journey I’m on just now.
What is the hardest challenge you have faced since you started the company?
Realising that the brand is just me. I’m used to working within large corporate entities so presenting myself without that corporate facade felt different. Working on your own, without a team behind you is an initial challenge too. But in time you create your own network and support gang. Surrounding yourself with people who support and back you is invaluable.
Tell us one fact about you that people wouldn’t know?
I’ve played the violin since I was 7 years old. I don’t play as often now but it remains my release. My 8 year old twins are also learning which is lovely. Music offers so much creatively, intellectually and socially. It’s a really important part of my life.
2018 is here, where do you plan on taking the brand?
I’ve got an exciting pipeline of projects for the rest of this year and I’ll be developing my blog in the coming months too. I’m keen to showcase local talent and help make interior design accessible, giving design tips and commentary. Watch this space!
To date, what has been the highlight since launching?
I’m not sure I can choose one thing. Every client, project and achievement is different and I feel very privileged to be doing something I love for a living.
Which city do you feel most at home in, London, Paris or New York?
Paris. I love London but I find Paris enchanting. I confess I haven’t been to New York yet but it’s on my list.
Three beauty products you can’t leave the house without?
Jo Malone Pomegranate Noir cologne, Yves Saint Laurent Touche Eclat and my Bobbie Brown blusher.
Style means….?
Whether it’s fashion or interiors, it’s about finding a way to express your personality. Ignoring trends and being true to yourself; finding a style you are happy and confident with. If it doesn’t make you smile, then it’s not right.
Best thing about London to you?
Columbia Road Flower Market. The colour, the smells, that Sunday morning vibe. I love it.
Statement shoe or statement bag?
I’m a little obsessed with both. At the moment my pom pom flats go everywhere with me.
If you had to, what piece of clothing from your wardrobe would you wear everyday?
I’m currently a little in love with my long black chiffon style skirt from Hush. It takes me from weekend lounging to cocktail glam and everywhere in between. It works a monochromatic or neutral look but also looks fabulous with a vibrant top and statement jewellery if you’re looking for a little more impact.
Favourite love song?
Can You Feel The Love Tonight from the Lion King. Gets me every time.
Best place for a coffee?
A magical little place in Franchoek, South Africa called Cafe Bon Bon. In the sun, with views of the mountains and the friendly farm cockerel wandering round. Great coffee which always comes after great wine and the most fabulous lemon meringue pie.
Most memorable piece of advice given to you?
Always be yourself. Don’t try to replicate or be someone you’re not.
Guilty pleasure?
Blackcurrant sorbet. I can’t resist.
If you could spent 24 hours in anywhere in the world, where would it be?
India. I fell in love with it years ago on a trip to Rajesthan with my husband. It’s a crazy, colourful country with amazing food and fascinating people. It’s a country of stories. A complete sensory overload; I’d love to explore it more. Kerala would probably be my next stop.
