One of my defining childhood moments was watching ‘Help’, the sophomore film featuring The Beatles with my dad on a summer morning during the school holidays.
I had always been a huge, HUGE fan of the Fab Four, so much so I named my cat Ringo after the amiable drummer who was my favourite member of The Beatles.
Whilst I was not born to go and see the Beatles during their tenure as the biggest band in the world in the swinging sixties, I can see the world’s best tribute band to The Beatles here in 2025.
Whilst the majority of the audience are people who are old enough to have seen Paul, George, Ringo and John the first time round, there is a smorgasbord of fans of all ages, showing that the Beatles were possibly one of the best bands to appeal to a multi-generational audience.

With a striking set which included graphics of the cultural icons and milestones of the sixties, this aided by the ever-groovy yellow Beatles style submarine and the instantly-recognisable Beatles logo, the Bootleg Beatles promised a show of epic music, decadent theatrics and a step back in time to one of the most memorable decades of music.

A seismic cultural phenomenon, the live performances of The Beatles are often synonymous with screaming fans, almost in a state of frenzy. There was none of that at the Bootleg Beatles, but the band were greeted with a warm and enthusiastic reception.

The premise, celebrating the music of all of the Fab Four’s films, starting from ‘A Hard Day’s Night’, through to their cameo inspired by the music of the Beatles – ‘Yellow Submarine’. A trip through the band’s filmography which impressively spans four years – 1964 to 1968, showing how truly prolific they really were.

Taking us through the ages, it was a stunning showcase of the best tracks from the films of The Beatles which includes the aforementioned ‘A Hard Day’s Night’, ‘Help!’, ‘Magical Mystery Tour’, ‘Let It Be’ (not technically a film, but still a vital part of the Beatles canon in a visual sense) and ‘Yellow Submarine’. For each film, the Bootleg Beatles swiftly changed costumes that reflected the distinct look of the era and of course the film.

Without a doubt the Bootleg Beatles sound exactly like the real band, impressively tight, each member playing the role of John, Paul, George and Ringo are consummate musicians who capture the energy and the jour de vivre of the Beatles.
They remain in character throughout, with their banter and audience participation being so Beatles-esque, that you have to wonder if you have had too many gin and tonics and haven’t actually hopped in a time travel machine back to the sixties?!

From the lark-filled and buoyant ‘A Hard Day’s Night’ and the eponymous song of the same name to the melodic marvel that is ‘You’ve Got To Hide Your Love Away’ from ‘Help!’, every song is executed with careful precision with the audience singing along to their favourite and most beloved Beatles tracks.

Even the emotive tunes from the Beatles discography, such as ‘Hey Jude’ or ‘All You Need Is Love’ tugged at the heartstrings and you could feel the love for the band and the music in equal measure. This was further enhanced by the presence of were joined on stage by Bournemouth’s very own orchestra, which elevated the magic of the music even further and truly added to the feel of the evening.

The evolution of the Bootleg Beatles is almost as staggering as the band that they imitate themselves. Whilst they have always been perennially a standout act, they had previously had something of a cult following, however following stints at Glastonbury and other landmark music festivals and performances, the Bootlegs have seen their star rise and rise, with even Queen Elizabeth II requesting an audience with them for her Golden Jubilee!
With the news and anticipated hype surrounding the forthcoming film about The Beatles by Sam Mendes, there’s no doubt that we will see another serious dose of Beatlesmania take over the world once again, giving yet another reason to go see the brilliant tribute band play once again.
Fun, flamboyant and finessed, a trip to go see the Bootleg Beatles is a chance to not just have a wonderful night out, but to revel in the glory of four amazing musicians who give music fans the rare chance to come as close as possible to witnessing The Beatles’ legacy live on stage in the most visceral and vivid way possible.
The Bootleg Beatles?! We love them, Yeah! Yeah! Yeah!
