Your photography and videography work is focused on capturing genuine, heartfelt moments. Can you share a specific instance where you felt particularly moved by the emotions you were able to capture during a wedding or portrait session?

We feel blessed to have witnessed numerous beautiful and meaningful celebrations, making it challenging to choose just one. However, Laura and Greg’s wedding left a lasting impression. Their imaginative approach to the day, creating a unique experience to exchange heartfelt vows and spiritually unite, was truly moving.

The lead phrase, “IN LAK’ECH ALA K’IN,” meaning “I am You, and You are me” in Mayan language, added a profound dimension. Experiencing the deep connection and witnessing their union unfold during the ceremony was a miraculous and unforgettable experience. The presence of family and friends, all sharing love, warmth, and joy, made it a day we will never forget.

Changing the wedding photography landscape in Hungary to a more natural and artistic style is a significant accomplishment. What inspired this shift, and how do you think it has impacted the way couples perceive and cherish their wedding memories?

We belong to a generation that values living, connection, and unique experiences. Planning our own wedding highlighted the challenge of creating a non-formal, stress-free celebration. Successfully achieving this goal led us to assist other couples in finding their unique ways of celebration, shaping the foundation of our work.

Using the camera as an involved eye, we capture memories from the perspective of the couple, family, and friends, emphasizing the beauty of genuine moments. This approach has not only transformed the wedding photography scene in Hungary but also influenced how couples perceive and cherish their wedding memories as authentic, timeless expressions of their love.

Your decision to prioritise family while pursuing your passion is commendable. How has becoming parents influenced your perspective on love and relationships, and in turn, your approach to capturing these emotions for your clients?

Family has always been integral to our career choice. Becoming parents illuminated our world in ways we couldn’t have imagined. Our children brought a newfound sense of peace and simplicity to our lives, influencing our photography style towards fine art imagery with peaceful compositions and film-like color palettes.

Balancing our dynamic documentary approach with fine art elements, we aim to capture the pure beauty of human relationships. This new experience strengthened our commitment to preserving the beauty of love, inspiring our clients with images that reflect the deep connections and meaningful emotions we’ve come to cherish as parents.

Winning the ‘Best Wedding Film of the Year’ grand prize in 2016 must have been a momentous achievement. How did this recognition shape your professional journey, and what did it mean for the future of BEATATUM?

Winning the ‘Best Wedding Film of the Year’ award validated our vision and opened doors to international collaborations. Working with Anita Benes, the designer of Daalarna Couture bridal gowns, on campaign films further inspired us.

Her creations’ quality, unique elegance, and professionalism fueled our growth. Capturing destination weddings in Italy, Sicily, and France enriched our portfolio, prompting us to consider settling in a location conducive to both living and creating. This award marked a turning point, pushing us towards defining our international style and identity.

Tulum holds a special place in your hearts. Can you elaborate on what makes Tulum unique and how its atmosphere and connection with nature inspire your creative process?

Tulum’s blend of historical aesthetics, cultural elegance, and breathtaking natural beauty creates a unique atmosphere. The tropical jungle and untouched Caribbean paradise provide endless inspiration. The juxtaposition of high fashion with the Caribbean jungle formed our style, encouraging couples to embrace the power of their love amid nature.

The warmth of the local Mayan community added a human touch to our experiences. Tulum’s magical ambiance, coupled with its cultural richness, has deeply influenced our creativity, allowing us to capture the essence of change, openness, and beauty in our work.

With the ever-changing trends in weddings and photography styles, how do you stay innovative and maintain the authenticity that defines your work?

While embracing trends, we prioritize emotions over style. Our work balances documentary and editorial styles, allowing for a dynamic yet authentic portrayal of human connections.

We offer couples both full galleries, rich in emotional moments, and carefully selected editorial previews. By intertwining innovation and authenticity, we ensure our work evolves with trends without compromising the emotional depth that defines BEATATUM’s unique style.

Capturing honest moments and true emotions requires a deep understanding of people. How do you establish a connection with your clients to make them feel comfortable and open in front of the camera?

Our passion for understanding the spiritual depth and emotional intricacies of individuals stems from diverse academic backgrounds in psychology, philosophy, sociology, and art history. This knowledge, combined with our love for motivating and helping people achieve their goals, fosters a deep connection with our clients.

We seek to know and understand them, translating their visions into artistic memories. Our couples often feel our genuine interest and commitment to their unique stories, creating a comfortable environment that allows them to express their true selves in front of the camera.

As a couple working together in a creative business, what strengths do each of you bring to BEATATUM, and how do you balance your personal and professional lives?

Sixteen years of being together and working as a couple have allowed us to strengthen and complement each other. Despite having the same life goals, our different personalities—Aron’s perfectionism, leadership, and visual acumen, paired with Bea’s aesthetic sensibility, attention to detail, and emotional documentation—create a dynamic balance.

This balance is the strength of our business. The close intertwining of our personal and professional lives allows for a seamless flow of influence, challenges, and developments. Challenges are faced together, and our commitment to each other and the business is the driving force behind BEATATUM’s success.

In your years of experience, you’ve witnessed countless love stories. Are there any particular love stories that have left a lasting impact on you, and if so, what was it about those stories that touched your hearts?

Choosing one love story is challenging, as each couple brings a unique and touching narrative. Particularly moving are stories of couples who, in the face of challenges, chose unity and believed in their unique vision of life. The resilience and commitment displayed in these stories resonate deeply, leaving an enduring impact on us as storytellers capturing the beauty of love in various forms.

Tulum’s magical ambiance is evident in your work. How do you incorporate the essence of this place into your photography and videography, making each project uniquely reflective of its surroundings?

Tulum’s allure lies in its historical aesthetics, cultural richness, and natural beauty, which serve as a constant source of inspiration. We immerse ourselves in the tropical jungle, untouched beaches, and local culture to capture the diversity waiting to be discovered.

Tulum’s ever-changing atmosphere encourages us to infuse its unique elements into our work. Whether it’s the textures, shapes, or colors of the surroundings, each project becomes a reflection of Tulum’s magic. Our goal is to convey the spirit of adventure and the transformative power of this extraordinary place through our photography and videography.

The shift from formal to natural wedding styles mirrors a broader cultural change. How do you see the role of wedding photography evolving in the future, and what trends do you anticipate in the industry?

Currently, various wedding photography trends coexist, making it an opportune time for creatives to find their unique voices. We observe a trend toward bringing a luxurious wedding look to a wider audience while maintaining a balance with the ever-changing landscape of styles.

The industry seems to be moving away from a single dominant trend, allowing for greater diversity and personalization. We anticipate a continued emphasis on authenticity, with couples seeking photographers who can capture the genuine essence of their love in innovative and unique ways.

Your decision not to present weddings done in your old style speaks volumes about your dedication to your craft. What challenges did you face during this transition, and how did it shape the identity of BEATATUM as it stands today?

Transitioning to a new style in a new environment with two young children presented both challenges and inspiration. Exploring Tulum together from scratch while establishing a local portfolio required humility and perseverance.

Despite being experienced professionals, proving ourselves in a new setting without an established reputation was challenging. However, this fresh start allowed us to express our style in a way that resonated with the couples in the Tulum area.

Winning the Junebug Weddings Best of the Best Engagement Photography award in 2019 further solidified our presence. The challenges and successes during this transition shaped BEATATUM’s identity, making us resilient and adaptable, ready to redefine ourselves on an international scale.

Creating a portfolio that showcases your best work is crucial. Could you share some key elements you consider when curating your portfolio, and how do you ensure that it represents the essence of BEATATUM?

Curating our portfolio involves a careful balance between emotion and editorial style. The essence of BEATATUM lies in the presentation of the depth of human relationships.

Through our portfolio, we aim to provide a unique and profound impression, showcasing the beauty of Tulum and Mexico. The selection process involves capturing the unique atmosphere, the warmth of human connections, and our artistic and aesthetic perception.

It’s a constant challenge to present both emotion and editorial style cohesively, ensuring that each image reflects the essence of our work and the experiences we aim to convey.

As storytellers, you have the power to preserve memories for generations. What advice would you give to couples to ensure that their wedding day is not just an event but a timeless, cherished story captured through your lens?

Choosing a venue that aligns with their comfort and values is crucial for couples. Additionally, hiring vendors, especially a wedding planner, who values the depth of the wedding experience over mere coordination, is essential.

Spending quality time together on the day, connecting with guests, and organizing experiences for them contribute to a day filled with celebration. Avoiding empty waiting times and incorporating live music, shows, and special elements keeps the celebration mood alive.

The goal is to make the entire day a memorable and joyous experience, ensuring that the wedding story captured through our lens is a timeless reflection of their unique love.

Our readers love to travel; what destination is at the top of your bucket list? When lacking motivation, what is your go-to quote?

Exploring places where tradition and organic living thrive is at the top of our bucket list. When lacking motivation, we turn to spiritual places for inspiration. Italy, especially the Amalfi coast, Positano, Cinque Terre, and Tuscany, holds a special place in our hearts.

The historic and artistic treasures of Europe also inspire us, and we accept a few bookings for European weddings during the summertime. Our go-to quote during challenging times is, “Renewal is essential; challenges are opportunities for growth.”

Lastly, what is the most rewarding aspect of your work? Is there a particular moment or feeling that reaffirms your passion for capturing love and emotions through your photography and videography?

Receiving reviews from couples expressing that we truly understood and captured their unique story reaffirms our passion for capturing love and emotions. Knowing that we played a part in fulfilling their dreams and witnessing the beauty of their love stories is an honor and blessing.

The most rewarding aspect is being a part of heartfelt celebrations, capturing shining moments, deep love, and meaningful emotions that become cherished memories. The belief that a wedding is one of the most beautiful days of life fuels our dedication to preserving these moments for generations to come.
