One of the most notable periods in the hotel’s history is its association with iconic musicians of the 1960s. Legendary bands such as The Beatles and The Rolling Stones frequented the hotel, often staying in its luxurious suites and making impromptu appearances at its bars and lounges.

Today, The Cumberland Hotel continues to pay homage to its musical heritage while offering guests a luxurious retreat in the heart of London. With its exclusive Backstage upgrade, guests are treated to a truly immersive experience that goes beyond traditional hospitality.

Backstage Upgrades and Rock Star Status

My recent stay at The Cumberland Hotel offered me more than just a luxurious retreat; it provided a journey through the hotel’s rich musical history. As a delegate representing the United Nations CSW68, celebrating International Women’s Day in London, I sought a place to unwind and celebrate after fulfilling my duties. Stepping into the lobby, I was immediately embraced by an ambience steeped in history, with echoes of past performances reverberating through its halls. I was also embraced by the hotels signature scent and a vibrant buzzing lobby, the perfect tone for my evening of self-care and celebration.

The Backstage upgrade, with its exclusive amenities and indulgent offerings, served as a fitting tribute to the hotel’s musical heritage. As I lounged in the relaxing seating area, savouring the most delicious dim sum delicacies and fine wines, I couldn’t help but feel a sense of reverence for the artists who had once graced this very space with their presence.

The exceptional service from the Backstage staff truly elevated my stay at The Cumberland Hotel to rock-star status. Each time I visited this exclusive area, I was treated with attentiveness and care that made me feel like a VIP. Whether anticipating my preferences for food and drinks or providing me with options of personalised music to enjoy in my suite, the staff went above and beyond to ensure that every aspect of my stay was nothing short of extraordinary. Their genuine warmth and dedication to creating memorable experiences left an indelible impression, making me feel like a true rock star throughout my time at the hotel.

A Suite Life

Stepping into my suite at The Cumberland Hotel felt like entering a sanctuary of luxury and comfort. Impeccable cleanliness greeted me at every turn, with every surface gleaming and inviting. The attention to detail was evident, from the perfectly arranged furnishings to the pristine linens adorning the bed. My highlight of the suite was the expansive and beautifully decorated walk-in wardrobe, complete with a selection of designer robes and slippers, offering a touch of indulgence that exceeded expectations.

As I explored the suite further, I discovered a fully stocked mini-bar offering an array of beverages to suit every preference. The music theme continued in my suite, a treasure trove of musical memorabilia. From vintage posters to LP players to guitars. However, what put the biggest smile on my face was the thoughtful gesture from the Backstage staff – a chilled bottle of fizz and a beautifully arranged fruit platter awaited me upon arrival, setting the tone for a memorable stay. Each element of the suite exuded a sense of refinement and sophistication, ensuring that my time at The Cumberland Hotel was nothing short of exceptional.

During my stay, I had the opportunity to immerse myself in the hotel’s live music experience during dinner at the Sound Bar, where talented musicians serenaded guests and lifted the atmosphere with lively melodies and infectious rhythms. It was a magical evening, reminiscent of the legendary performances that had once electrified The Cumberland Hotel’s stages.

Beyond its musical offerings, The Cumberland Hotel continues to excel in providing unparalleled hospitality and luxurious accommodations. Situated just moments away from Hyde Park and Oxford Street, it offers the perfect blend of tranquility and convenience for travellers eager to explore all that London has to offer.

The Products for an Ultimate Skin Care Glow Up

My indulgence commenced with Pixi Beauty’s Milky Tonic, a refreshing elixir that laid the foundation for my skincare ritual. Its lightweight refreshing texture and revitalising properties provided the perfect prelude to the opulence that followed.

Dubbed “botox in a bottle,” this potent serum harnessed the power of advanced retinoids to wage war against fine lines and wrinkles. With each application, it imbued my skin with a newfound vitality, leaving me marvelling at its transformative prowess.

Delving into the key ingredients of each product, I discovered the science behind their efficacy. The Milky Tonic’s blend of botanical extracts and nutrients provided a refreshing boost of hydration. At the same time, Germaine de Capuccini’s Retinage Filler delivered a potent dose of retinoids to stimulate collagen production and firm the skin. This deeper understanding enhanced my appreciation for the luxurious elixirs gracing my skincare routine.

But the pinnacle of luxury awaited me in the evening with Tata Harper’s Retinoic Nutrient Face Oil and Creme Riche. The face oil, a true embodiment of opulence, delivered a concentrated blend of nutrients and retinol with just a single drop. Its luxurious texture glided across my skin, providing a potent blend of nutrients and retinol, working tirelessly to diminish the signs of ageing. With continued use, my complexion appeared plumped and rejuvenated, as if infused with the essence of youth itself.

Paired with the Creme Riche, which proved to be nothing short of incredible, my skin was enveloped in a veil of unparalleled nourishment. Its rich, texture melted effortlessly, leaving my complexion imbued with newfound radiance, and the serving scoop made me imagine this was caviar for the skin.

The Results

After six weeks of devoted use for my ultimate skin care glow up, the results were nothing short of extraordinary. My complexion glowed with newfound vitality, each product playing its part in sculpting a visage that exuded confidence and radiance. My skin had undergone a noticeable transformation in texture, tone, and overall appearance, but the effects continued to linger even after the trial period concluded. The combination of all four products worked in tandem to address various concerns such as fine lines, wrinkles, and uneven skin tone. With consistent use, my complexion appeared smoother, firmer, and more radiant, exuding a youthful vitality that garnered compliments from colleagues and friends alike. Even after the trial concluded, the lingering effects of this skincare regimen persisted, leaving me with a newfound confidence in the resilience and efficacy of these premium products.

In the tranquil moments of each morning and evening, as I indulged in the luxurious elixirs, I found solace amidst the chaos. Carving out this time for myself became essential—an opportunity to pause, breathe, and nurture both my skin and my soul. Tracing the Legacy of Malliouhana, Where Timeless Elegance Meets Modern Opulence

In the heart of Anguilla, where the Caribbean Sea paints its azure canvas, The Malliouhana stands not just as a bastion of luxury but as a living testament to the island’s rich history and the timeless allure of Caribbean elegance.

The Legacy Begins:

Malliouhana’s story dates back to the 1980s when visionary entrepreneur and Anguillian pioneer Leon Roydon initiated the creation of an upscale resort that would redefine luxury on the island. The word “Malliouhana” itself carries historical weight, derived from the Arawak language spoken by the indigenous people of the Caribbean. It translates to “arrow-shaped sea serpent,” paying homage to the island’s indigenous roots. The romantic story told by resident Rum Pairing’s connoisseur and long-standing employee, Chesney, explains Roydon originally built this hotel for his wife to live in. The story goes that Roydon fell in love with the island and told his wife, “I’m going to build you a villa, and you can invite your five friends to keep the lights on. “

A Historical Tapestry:

As you traverse the corridors of Malliouhana, you are walking through a historical tapestry that narrates the evolution of Anguilla and the hotel itself. Originally opening its doors in 1984, Malliouhana quickly became a symbol of excellence in Caribbean hospitality. The architecture, a blend of Mediterranean aesthetics and Caribbean vibrancy, reflects the island’s colonial past while embracing its indigenous heritage.
Over the years, Malliouhana has witnessed the ebb and flow of the Caribbean’s cultural currents, adapting and evolving while maintaining its commitment to providing guests with an unparalleled experience.

Elegance Redefined:

Malliouhana’s commitment to elegance is not just reflected in its luxurious accommodations but also in the preservation of its historical charm. The original architecture, carefully maintained and enhanced through meticulous renovations, allows guests to step into a world where the past and present harmoniously coexist.
The hotel’s rooms and suites, adorned with contemporary comforts, pay homage to the island’s history through subtle nods to its colonial past and Arawak influences. Private terraces offer a glimpse of the same breathtaking views that captivated the hotel’s first guests, creating a seamless connection between Malliouhana’s storied past and its modern-day splendour.

Culinary Heritage:

The culinary journey at Malliouhana is an exploration of Anguilla’s diverse heritage. Leon’s at Malliouhana, situated on the beach and named after the visionary founder, showcases a menu that blends local flavours with international sophistication. The onsite restaurant, Celeste, becomes a living celebration of the island’s culinary traditions, paying homage to the indigenous roots that inspired the hotel’s name.
If I had the option to have one of everything on the evening menu, I would – with a variety of dishes to choose from. Still, the chef’s kiss has to be the Table-side Ceviche, which packs a spicy kick with lime, jalapeño, and cilantro that dances around the mouth, awakening the senses.
The same restaurant houses breakfast with a relaxing sea view and exceptional service. Choose from fresh avocado toast or smoked salmon and eggs, and if you are feeling extra hungry, the Johnny Cakes and pulled pork looked like a triumph.

Wellness and Continuity:

The Spa at Malliouhana, a sanctuary of modern wellness, seamlessly blends contemporary luxury with the healing traditions of the Caribbean’s indigenous people. Drawing inspiration from the island’s rich history, the spa offers rejuvenating treatments that go beyond the physical, creating a holistic wellness experience. As the morning sun paints the sky in hues of pastel, guests are invited to commence their day with a tranquil yoga session. The gentle rustle of palm leaves and the rhythmic sound of the Caribbean waves provide the backdrop to a session that harmonises mind, body, and spirit. Led by experienced instructors, the yoga experience is tailored to all levels, whether you’re a seasoned practitioner or a beginner seeking a serene introduction. It’s a mindful start to the day, fostering a sense of balance and continuity. Afterwards, bask in the serenity at the pool, extending your wellness journey amidst the lush surroundings, where time seems to slow down, and the embrace of tranquillity becomes a lasting memory.

Rum & Chocolate Pairing

Indulgence takes on a new form at Malliouhana with the exquisite Chocolate and Rum pairing experience, a sensory journey that unveils the rich history and flavours of two Caribbean treasures. Inspired by Anguilla’s heritage, this tasting extravaganza celebrates the island’s historical ties to the cultivation of cacao and sugarcane. As you embark on this delectable adventure, under the expert guidance, tales of Anguilla’s colonial past are shared, and the history behind Glo’s rum and the hotel homemade chocolate pairing. The carefully curated selection of chocolates, each infused with local ingredients, complements the nuanced profiles of premium rums. Whether you’re a connoisseur or a curious novice, the Chocolate and Rum pairing experience at Malliouhana is an invitation to explore the intricate dance of flavours, where the velvety sweetness of chocolate harmonises with the robust notes of aged rum. It’s not just a tasting; it’s a journey through time, a homage to the Caribbean’s flavorful history, inviting guests to savour the decadence of the past and present.

The Eternal Allure:

As the sun sets over Meads Bay and the name “Malliouhana” whispers through the gentle sea breeze, the hotel stands as a guardian of Anguilla’s history, pathing the way as a shining example for the other hotels and is an embodiment of Caribbean luxury. Malliouhana isn’t just a place to stay; it’s a living chapter in the story of Anguilla, where the arrow-shaped sea serpent eternally weaves its magic into the hearts of those who seek the pinnacle of Caribbean elegance.

So, how would I sum up my experience? Simply put, Malliouhana is not just a hotel; it’s a grand production, where my experience unfolds like a captivating movie. This place transcends the mere definition of a hotel; it’s a living time capsule that captures the very spirit of Anguilla. Here, the enduring allure of the Caribbean paradise is not just witnessed but felt, as the dance of history and elegance unfolds in perfect harmony. Every guest steps into a starring role, becoming a cherished part of the island’s living legacy. But what elevates this stay from a mere scene to a blockbuster is the exceptional ensemble cast – the Malliouhana team. In this cinematic journey, they are not just staff; they’re protagonists operating with unwavering pride, seamlessly forming a family unit that goes above and beyond to script the ultimate experience for every guest.

Truly exceptional, Malliouhana. Thank you for the memories.

As the gentle waves of the Caribbean Sea caress the sandy shores, The Manoah unfolds as a haven where every detail is crafted to create an experience that transcends the ordinary.

Origins of Elegance:

The Manoah, with its roots reaching back to the early 2000s, emerged as a vision to redefine hospitality on the island. Named after the biblical Mount Manoah, a place of divine beauty and serenity, the hotel embodies the essence of its namesake by offering guests an escape into a realm of unparalleled comfort and tranquillity.

A Sanctuary by the Sea:

The Manoah is a symphony of architectural brilliance, where contemporary design harmonises with the natural beauty that surrounds it. The moment one steps into the lobby, the air is filled with a sense of serenity. Expansive windows frame panoramic views of the azure sea, creating a seamless connection between the interior and the breathtaking landscape beyond.

Luxurious Abodes:

Each of The Manoah’s room suites are a sanctuary of indulgence, thoughtfully designed to provide a cocoon of comfort. With a nod to Anguilla’s Caribbean charm, the decor is a celebration of understated luxury, offering a perfect blend of modern amenities and timeless elegance. Large private balconies and terraces provide intimate spaces to soak in the views, creating an atmosphere of tranquillity that defines The Manoah experience.
After a long flight, there is a sense of calm when you step into one of these giant suites with a dreamy bathtub for ultimate relaxation; this was the perfect place to start my journey and stay on this luscious island. Did I mention the walk-in closet? A women’s paradise when travelling long haul; it has space and a place for everything: perfection.

Culinary Delights:

Dining at The Manoah is a journey through a world of culinary delights. The resort’s signature restaurant, adorned in chic Caribbean decor, serves up a menu that tantalises the taste buds with a fusion of local and international flavours. The setting on the beach provides a relaxing gastronomic experience showcasing the beauty of the island itself.

Unwind in Paradise:

The Manoah recognises that true luxury extends beyond physical comforts; it encompasses the rejuvenation of the mind and soul. The salon spa, nestled within the heart of the resort, offers a range of treatments inspired by both modern wellness practices and traditional Caribbean healing. Here, amidst the soothing sounds of the sea, guests are invited to embark on a holistic journey to rediscover balance and serenity. Brides would feel at home with every need catered for to prepare you for the big day ahead.

My favourite spot for unwinding has to be at the pool, which overlooks the sea; the best of both worlds in one space.

Commitment to Sustainability:

Beyond providing a luxurious retreat, The Manoah is committed to environmental stewardship. Embracing sustainable practices, the resort strives to minimise its ecological footprint, ensuring that guests can indulge in luxury with a conscience. This commitment to both opulence and environmental responsibility reflects The Manoah’s dedication to a harmonious coexistence with the natural beauty that surrounds it.

The Manoah Experience:

As the sun dips below the horizon, casting hues of pink and gold, The Manoah stands as a testament to the enduring allure of Anguilla. More than a hotel, it is an immersive experience—a journey into the heart of Caribbean tranquillity, where luxury is defined by the gentle lull of the waves and the unhurried pace of island life.

A stay at this hotel is an invitation to escape, to discover a place where luxury and serenity converge. As I lingered on the pristine shores, enveloped in the warmth of The Manoah’s hospitality, I felt I became a small part of a story that transcends time—an ode to the timeless beauty of Anguilla.

Anguilla Unveiled: A Symphony of History, Charm, and Beauty

Nestled in the heart of the cerulean Caribbean Sea, Anguilla is a bewitching gem that beckons travellers with its pristine beaches, vibrant culture, and a history that whispers tales of resilience and triumph. This slender slice of paradise, just 16 miles long and 3 miles wide, holds within its embrace a treasure trove of experiences that captivate the soul and leave an indelible mark on the wandering heart. Join me in this special three-part feature as I share my experience of Anguilla.

Embarking on the journey from the North of England, my chosen route involved a swift flight from Manchester to Paris, followed by another to Saint Martin. The final leg included a brief but scenic boat ride to the enchanting shores of Anguilla. Stepping onto the vibrant Calypso Charters boat, the weariness of travel instantly dissolved in the face of the islands’ breathtaking beauty. The rhythmic waves, kissed by the Caribbean sun, ushered in a sense of tranquility that effortlessly banished any lingering jet lag. A sip of the invigorating rum punch, served with the warm hospitality that defines the region, further marked the beginning of a journey where refreshment met the allure of the tropics.

A Tapestry of History:

Anguilla’s history is as rich and diverse as the hues of its crystalline waters. The Arawak and Carib Indians were the first to tread upon its shores, leaving behind the echoes of their ancient civilisations. Centuries later, the island became a battleground for colonial powers, passing through the hands of the French, Spanish, and English before finding its place as a British Overseas Territory, something the islanders I spoke with are incredibly proud of.
The echoes of this tumultuous history can still be heard in the charming architecture that graces the island. The Old Valley, the historical heart of Anguilla, is a quaint testament to the island’s past, with its brightly coloured houses and cobblestone streets that seem to whisper tales of times gone by. The best way to get about is by Moke, and that we did! What a thrill it was to whip around the island in these open-side buggies.

Beaches of Dreams:

Anguilla’s beaches are nothing short of a dreamscape. Powder-soft sands stretch for miles, caressed by gentle waves that paint the shore in hues of turquoise and azure. Shoal Bay, Meads Bay, and Rendezvous Bay are but a few names that conjure images of a James Bond paradise, inviting visitors to lose themselves in the rhythm of the sea.
Each beach is a canvas painted with the strokes of a master artist, where the sunsets are a symphony of colours that linger in the memory long after leaving the island. Whether you seek solitude or vibrant social scenes, Anguilla’s beaches provide the perfect backdrop for your Caribbean dreams.

Culinary Odyssey:

The island’s culinary scene is a testament to the cultural diversity that defines Anguilla. From beachside shacks serving up grilled lobster, which I must admit I devoured, to upscale restaurants offering a fusion of Caribbean and international flavours, every meal is a culinary odyssey. The island’s signature dish, crayfish, is a must-try delicacy that embodies the essence of Anguillian cuisine.
Venture into The Valley’s culinary precinct, where aromas of spices and fresh seafood dance through the air, tempting even the most discerning palates. Anguilla doesn’t just offer a feast for the eyes and ensures every meal becomes a sensory celebration.
I know you want my recommendations, so here they are: I recommend Sandy Island for beachside grilled lobster. Getting to this tiny private island takes a boat ride, but it is worth it! Lobster to die for and a remote island to boast about – the perfect laid-back lunch spot, but be warned, the rum punch here packs an extra strong punch!

For upscale fusion, one of my favourite cuisines, you cannot get better than Veya Restaurant, at Sandy Ground!! You will be serenaded by traditional music whilst you struggle to choose just one or two things off this incredible menu! Everything is a win. Top tip – do not miss out on the Lobster Fritters; get a side extra for the table, as one of my good friends advised. For crayfish lovers, it must be Vincy’s, located on Back Street, South Hill. It’s not just the fish that will blow you away here; the views are the best I have experienced in Anguilla. It’s the perfect dining spot.

Warmth of the People:

Beyond its physical beauty, the people of Anguilla infuse the island with its unparalleled charm. Warm smiles and genuine hospitality greet visitors at every turn as we drove past on our Moke’s, creating an atmosphere where strangers quickly become friends, and you can’t help but feel at home. The island’s small size fosters a sense of community, inviting travellers to embrace the laid-back pace and immerse themselves in the local way of life.
As the sun dips below the horizon and the sky is set ablaze with pink and orange shades, it becomes evident that Anguilla is more than a destination—it’s a canvas upon which memories are painted in strokes of warmth, beauty, and everlasting charm.

Exploring Anguilla’s Hidden Gems: Unforgettable Excursions

While the hotels here offer a sanctuary of tranquillity, the allure of Anguilla extends beyond the confines of their luxurious embrace. Embark on curated excursions that promise to unveil the island’s hidden gems, creating memories as captivating as the sea breeze.

The Goat Cave Hike hosted by Quest beckons adventurers to traverse the island’s scenic trails, immersing themselves in nature while discovering the secrets of Anguilla’s captivating caves. This guided trek is a journey through landscapes and an exploration of the island’s geological wonders. Be warned, wear appropriate shoes for this trek. It’s not for the faint-hearted, but if you can reach the cave, you will feel a sense of achievement and exhilaration – it’s a real team bonding exercise and I loved every minute of it! Perfect for corporate trips and activities and one I will be recommending to my business clients.

For those with a penchant for other hands-on activities, Quest also offers the Johnny Cake Making experience. Dive into the heart of Anguilla’s culture as you learn the art of crafting these traditional delicacies, a skill passed down through generations. It was not one of my personal favourites as I like to be out and about more than in a kitchen however, it was great to learn about this island’s delicacy and see how it was made. If you would like to witness the island’s beauty from a different perspective, Sea Life Charters hosts a captivating boat ride around Anguilla, a personal favourite of mine. Sail along the coastline, where azure waters meet rugged cliffs, discovering secluded coves and pristine beaches that remain hidden to many. These excursions are not merely activities; they are gateways to the soul of Anguilla, inviting travellers to forge a deeper connection with the island’s rich tapestry.

An Exit Fit for a Bond Adventure

Having made my grand entrance to the island by boat, my departure was nothing short of a James Bond-worthy farewell—aboard the shortest international flight in the world, a mere 8-minute journey back to Saint Martin for my homeward-bound expedition. Summing up my stay is like capturing the essence of a thrilling novel. Anguilla, with its rich history, pristine beaches, culinary wonders, and the warm embrace of its locals, is not just a destination; it’s an extraordinary sanctuary where time gracefully slows down, allowing travellers to relish the sheer beauty of each fleeting moment. As I delved into the heart of this Caribbean jewel, the tales of its history enchanted me, the charm captivated me, and, inevitably, I found myself irresistibly seduced by the timeless allure of Anguilla.

Join me and continue this exploration as I unveil the unique narratives of two of the island’s exceptional hotels. The first is The Manoah Boutique Hotel, read all about my stay here. The second hotel I stayed at was The Malliouhana, read all about my stay here.

In desperate need of some R&R and a break from the chaos of life and work pressures, we stumbled upon a hidden gem that restored our balance: Everything Retreat, the latest wellbeing hot spot in the North of England. We were promised a restful stay, and that’s exactly what we got. Located in the picturesque Mellor, this tranquil sanctuary offers the best of what the Ribble Valley has to offer, allowing guests to unwind and immerse themselves in a haven of tranquility.

A Vision and Dream Realised:

Everything Retreat is the brainchild of Louise Monk, a local businesswoman and lifelong resident of the region. Her inspiring story is one of resilience and determination: against all odds, Louise purchased and transformed her sister’s land into a haven of tranquility during the lockdown. She curated a collection of 12 exquisitely designed, private, adult-only, pet-friendly lodges. What was once a boggy field has been lovingly transformed into luxurious accommodations, showcasing Louise’s dedication to creating a relaxing retreat for her guests.

Lodges of Luxury and Comfort:

The lodges at Everything Retreat have been meticulously designed with comfort in mind. The Signature Collection features six identical self-catering lodges adorned with calming colour palettes, while the Unique Collection offers six individually themed cabins, each with its own bespoke design. Additionally, every lodge boasts a private hot tub, a cozy wood burner, and a sumptuously comfortable king-size bed with custom-made mattresses that you can melt into. So, if you want to stay in bed all day, this place has got you covered; believe me, we were tempted!

The interiors reflect a love for detail, incorporating custom-made products by local producers, creating a space that radiates comfort and charm. Our top recommendation is the Skala Lodge, a Scandinavian dream with soft-textured furnishings and an overall fresh and bright feel. The small kitchen was well-equipped, and every area of space was thought out for comfort, practicality, and luxury.

A Bespoke Service:

At Everything Retreat, hospitality and guest experience take centre stage. The Everything Concierge Service promises to fulfil guests’ unique needs and desires; simply ask upon arrival. From arranging foodie tours to suggesting cycling and hiking routes, the concierge is there to curate an unforgettable experience for every guest. The attentive staff, particularly Manager Kelly, makes you feel like a VIP, ensuring you have everything you need for your stay. Our favourite service and gold star go to the breakfast box filled with fresh produce from the surrounding area, hand-delivered to our lodge.

Tailored for Enriching and Pawsitive Experiences:

The Ribble Valley offers an array of activities to enhance your retreat experience. Immerse yourself in the local hamlets and explore artisan shops and eateries at nearby Stydd Gardens; we highly recommend the crispy beef salad for lunch—it’s to die for! Alternatively, if you want to take it up a notch, embark on a culinary adventure with a visit to one of Northcote’s esteemed cookery schools, where you can learn to cook like a Michelin-star chef (subject to availability). To add the cherry on top, the staff and guests at The Everything Retreat are genuinely dog-friendly, which is always a bonus in our book! There are plenty of places to walk, and dogs are allowed in the onsite bar. Cheers to that!

The unique aspect of this retreat is its flexibility to transform the space to meet the requirements of its guests. The multifunctional areas can be curated for yoga, reef-making, and fitness activities, or for private dining and corporate events. Additionally, future developments promise treatment rooms and a relaxing fire pit in the gardens, further adding to the beauty and charm of this space.

A Truly Relaxing Experience:

So, whether you’re looking for a home away from home, a corporate retreat, or a romantic night with a loved one, this place has it all. You will enjoy a peaceful and tranquil environment, embarking on a rejuvenating journey in the heart of Ribble Valley. With dog-friendly accommodations, luxurious amenities, and unparalleled hospitality, this retreat offers a unique experience for humans and their furry friends. Embrace the serenity of the private hot tub, cozy up by the crackling wood-burning stove, and let the beauty of the surroundings rejuvenate your spirit and wash away your stresses—just as it did for us. And did we mention the sheep and baby lambs outside our window? Well, I guess you’ll have to go and see it for yourselves.

Many wellness companies fail to recognise one of the essential pillars of wellness: happiness. They focus on extreme fitness through unrealistic boot camps, where celery juice and smoothies are the only options on the menu. But, after a full day of healthy activities, it’s human instinct to crave some reward. If we do not get one, our happiness levels deplete, leaving us dissatisfied, and we often return home ready to gorge on everything on offer!

The Andronis Group clearly understands that the secret to wellness is balance, which breeds happiness. When we feel happy, our bodies release chemicals and signals to the brain that make us feel good, reducing stress and increasing overall wellbeing.

As a woman who has worked in the high-pressured, high-stressed corporate world for over two decades, finding and maintaining balance has become a lifelong mission. How do we find balance in the ever-changing world of the ‘new normal’ we live in, where employers and clients demand speed of delivery and growth of change? In recent years I have discovered that slowing down for a moment can, in fact, help us speed up; even the fastest car in the F1 needs a pit stop to stay on track, right? So, when the invite arrived on my desk to attend an award-winning luxury wellness experience, how could I say no?

Situated on the idyllic island of Santorini, live a collection of luxury wellness hotels by the Andronis Group. Each hotel is uniquely different, but all share the same philosophy ‘to ensure guests live the holiday experience in full, in every way, every moment of their stay’. The island resides on volcanic rock that provides an undeniable earthy yet electric energy that leaves one feeling grounded and invigorated.

The group have charged itself with redefining and reimagining hospitality, focusing on space, peace, and unparalleled service. During my visit, they certainly achieved that.

My experience started in Imerovigli, a Santorinian gem on the island’s most romantic coast, with views stretching across the breathtaking Caldera. The Caldera of Santorini has cave houses and architecture built on volcanic soil. Words cannot describe the awe-dropping beauty of this place; a picture cannot capture its full glory, so I will express the feeling I felt when I stepped out of my Andronis Concept suite onto my private terrace. Immediately excited to see the infinity pool built out on the edge of the cliff landscape to look out onto the horizon of the Aegean Sea. At that moment, it was as though time stood still, with an incredible rush of feelings of wonder and gratitude for our wonderful planet. It was a tantalising beauty that made me feel alive, yet the vastness of the water and its tranquillity immediately allowed me to relax completely. The weight of career aspirations, targets, goals, and expectations evaporated into the ether, and at that moment, I belonged to the Andronis Concept, which is all that mattered. A wise man once told me there is something about large bodies of water that influence our nervous system.

Staring at the ocean changes our brain waves’ frequency and puts us into a calm meditative state. Listening to the waves activates the parasympathetic nervous system, which makes us more relaxed. In addition, the negative ions in the sea breeze have a mood-boosting effect. What a perfect destination.

Andronis Concept Wellness Resort Santorini has 29 pool suites and villas, with sophisticated yet minimalist interiors, but it’s the private outdoor terraces that receive the gold star and its resident restaurant, Throubi. Fine dining at its best, Santorinian gastronomy, created using the fresh raw ingredients from their garden. An evening meal here is not just dinner; it’s an experience, a feast for the eyes as well as the stomach. The competition between the beauty of the sunset views from the restaurant and the artistically created and flavoursome dishes leaves you in sensory overload.

The Kallos spa is the hub of wellness at this hotel, and whether it is a traditional massage, advanced beauty, or yoga, there’s something for everyone to enjoy. My curated program consisted of all of the above and a non-evasive bio-energy session with Dr.Zulia Frost.

The spa boasts two pools and a hammam area, but be sure to immerse yourself in the hot cave pool to get an authentic feel for Santorini and its hot springs. My favourite activity was aerial yoga, something about hanging upside down and looking out onto the Caldera from the elevated yoga studio was utterly magical.

My wellness journey continued in the spectacular town of Oia. If you have seen the Santorini picture-perfect postcards with the white buildings nestled into the cliff edge and the bluest sky as the backdrop, chances are it’s Oia. The perfect honeymoon destination; as you walk through the busy winding paths in this town, you can feel the love! And, if it’s love you want, in the form of cuisine, then I must mention Lauda Restaurant, Santorini’s first-ever restaurant, labelled ‘the best restaurant in Santorini’ for a reason; simply put, it is. Lauda is the resident restaurant at Andronis Boutique, and although I didn’t stay there, I wasn’t going to miss the opportunity to try the legendary 3 Michelin Starred Chef Renault’s creations.

The Andronis Arcadia is the newest member of the Andronis family in Santorini. The all-suite hotel offers an exceptional standard of comfort, and I preferred the elegant modern living space. The hotel has a different atmosphere from the Concept, I enjoyed a more vibrant feel, but, I did miss those spectacular views. Each suite here boasts its own private pool and terrace, but as this hotel had an onsite beach club offering chillout music, cocktails, and delicious sushi from the Pacman Sunset Restaurant, I spent most of my time here after treatments. Did I enjoy a cocktail or two? Of course, I did! This group promotes a balance, and an 80/20 rule, so it would be rude of me not to enjoy the entire experience.

A jam-packed agenda of wellbeing curated by Director of Wellness, Carla Sage, is what I received at the Evexia Spa, the centre of wellness at Arcadia. Guest comfort and experience are a priority here with its newly installed private spa pool, beautiful design, and unique water path, known as the Kneipp pools, designed to ignite reflexology points. I recommend following the Kneipp experience with a deeply relaxing foot massage to leave you feeling refreshed, reset, and relaxed. If feet are not your thing, delicious sound baths, kundalini dance, and regular treatments are all available. Finally, I was honoured to experience an excellent session with Royal Acupuncturist Ross Barr. If it’s good enough for our Royals, it’s good enough for House of Coco.

How would I sum up my experience with the Andronis?

Cosmopolitan life at its best, the highest level of luxury, the best quality food (and alcohol); yes, all of that in a wellness resort. As I asked at the start of this article, ‘Have the Andronis Group just redefined wellness by achieving the perfect balance? My verdict? I believe they have.

Travelling for work can be a drag, and nothing makes it worse than staying in corporate hotels that have been designed for the 80s. The divide between work and pleasure has never been less distinct and thankfully, the world is wising up.

TRIBE is a new brand of hotels which launched a few years back, specialising in putting their hotels in handy gateway locations for business – think La Défense in Paris, or Amsterdam Noord. So what’s the story? The whole point of TRIBE is to focus on the key needs of the modern traveller – accessibility, affordability and connectivity – and stripping away the drab.

In London, nothing says business quite like Canary Wharf, and TRIBE’s brand new UK hotel brings with it a brand new energy.

Accessibility? Done. Just a quick walk away is Canary Wharf tube station which means you can be on the Jubilee or brand new Lizzy line and into central London within minutes. Also, Canary Wharf itself doesn’t mean just business. Some of the best places to eat in the area are actually based in Canary Wharf, and no it’s not all just generic chain places. Check out ‘Big Easy’ – an authentic New Orleans inspired BBQ joint, one of our favourite spots!

Affordability? Comfort Rooms come in at around £200 per night which is a steal for London based hotels. In a bid to simplify the whole process, TRIBE have done away with endless room categories. Instead, all rooms come well equipped with everything you need and nothing that you don’t (who ever read the bedside Bible?!) You have only three options – regular sized or XL, and whether the room is outward facing or into the atrium. Easy.

Connectivity? Piece of cake. As is becoming popular with a lot of hotels, TRIBE Canary Wharf has a 24 hour hub with spaces to suit all needs, whether that be working, drinking, meeting, eating, or just killing time (after all, being disconnected is just as important as being connected). To sweeten the deal, the spaces open up onto the hotel’s sun asked terrace.

Considering we make our own rules when it comes to work and travel now, some of us are choosing to bring our four legged friends along for the ride. TRIBE is a dog friendly hotel which couldn’t have been more accommodating for our resident House of Coco pooch, Angelface. There’s a grassy area nearby for them to run around, and you’ll find the whole of Canary Wharf as an area pretty dog friendly.

One important feature we couldn’t ever do away with is food. The hotel’s restaurant ‘Feels Like June’ is a fun all-day eating venue which flows seamlessly from breakfast bowls to late night Negronis. If you happen to stop by for lunch or dinner, we absolutely recommend the kale salad, and if you’re feeling either naughty or nostalgic, the banana split too. Winky face emoji.
