It can be daunting to tour someone who’s been in many places in the world. What can you show someone who’s been to Timbuktu and hiked Machu Picchu? How can you wow a person who has been to a real safari adventure? Thankfully, Phoenix has a lot of things to show to new visitors. You’ll never run out of things to show, so this handy guide will streamline your plans.

The best souvenirs from Phoenix, Arizona that you can take home are the memories you and your friend will have touring the city. Have you lived here all your life? Or have you just moved and wanted to show a friend around? Whether you’re showing someone how cool Phoenix is or just discovering it yourself, these five things will make you appreciate living in the Valley of the Sun:

Desert Botanical Garden

Gardens are a lot different in Phoenix. Forget about theBrooklyn Botanic Gardenwith its pretty cherry blossoms in spring. Phoenix’s botanical garden is raw and unblemished. The garden hosts a variety of plant life, but the best one is the cactuses that actually grow and thrive there. If you are lucky, you might even see event organizers light up the desert with a light and sound exhibit, which they did back in 2019.

Hot Air Balloon

If you truly want to show Phoenix and all its glory, thenride a hot air balloon. The view from the top is amazing, and you can expect a glass of champagne at the end of the flight. You’ll fly over barren lands and a cactus-filled desert. Phoenix from the view above is a sight to behold. If you haven’t been on one, this is the best time to experience it.

Camelback Mountain

Would it ever be a real trip to Phoenix if you didn’t see or hike the 825-meter Camelback Mountain?Phoenixresidents take great pride in the mountain, which was called as such because it looked like the hump and head of a kneeling camel. To reach the top, you can take either the Echo Canyon Trail or the Cholla Trail. Both are less than 1.5 miles, but they are not for the faint of heart. If hiking isn’t your thing, you can take a snap of it from the metropolitan area.

Phoenix Zoo

Unlike other zoos, the Phoenix Zoo keeps only animals acclimated to Phoenix’s hot weather. You can see coyotes, bobcats, cougars, lions, giraffes, cheetahs, gazelles, jaguars, Sumatran tigers, Asian elephants, and spider monkeys. If you’re with kids, they’ll be happy in a 4-D theater that uses effects to make the experience even more real.

Phoenix Art Museum

As much as it’s a joy to try Phoenix’s outdoor activities, the Phoenix Art Museum cannot be missed. So if you have only one more slot in your itinerary, spend that in this museum. The collection covers the works of Picasso, Georgia O’Keeffe, Henri Rousseau, Henry Moore, Frida Kahlo, and Diego Rivera.

Does it need to be said that you should grab a beer and head to a rooftop bar? Phoenix’s temperature would want you to reach for that cold beer in the middle of the day. Try to contain yourself and seek that ice-cold beer in the evening when the rest of the city is ready for a night out in town.

Just like the successful blog, Kay Kay’s Way, Kay Kay’s Fashion has a mind of its own. They feature various types of unique fashion. All of the items from Kay Kay’s Fashion are made in the United States with quality materials so you can rest assured that your product will be perfect!

Founded by Kelechi Uchendu who is a legal researcher at Columbia University, a blogger for her personal blog, an avid traveler who has visited all seven continents, and the CEO of Kay Kay’s Fashion. A force to be reckoned with, we spent some time with her to find out more…

When did you launch the brand and what was the reason behind it?
I officially registered Kay Kay’s World, LLC and launched Kay Kay’s Fashion at the end of March 2017. However, the journey of Kay Kay’s Fashion actually began in October 2016. On one night in October 2016, I dreamt that I attended a formal event in a magical city like New York. This event was special because it was an event to honor me for my accomplishments. I remember walking down the grand staircase in a gorgeous dress that I had never seen before–and I knew that I needed to bring this dress (and my dreams!) to life.

When I woke up, I told my mother about the dream I had and my desire to design the dress. My amazing mother told me that I should start right away and not put my dreams on hold. After this conversation, I was determined to design the dress. Since I am not a seamstress, I ended up working with a company in the Metro-Detroit area to help me sew my dress. Designing my dress was not easy. It took a couple of fittings to make this unique dress perfect and I did not finish with the dress until March 2017, even though I started the design process in October 2016. However, I used the extra time to learn more about how to run a business.

When I finally launched in March 2017, I received a lot of positive feedback. Later on, in the year, I ended up creating chokers made with authentic fabric from Mali that are currently sold on my website, KayKaysFashion.com and Asos Marketplace.

What is your background?
In 2013, I completed my BA in Political Science Pre-Law with a specialization in Environmental Science from Michigan State University. I also received my JD from Vermont Law School in 2016 and I am currently pursuing an LLM in Environmental Law from my alma mater. Before I started my business, I was also a writer for Detroit Fashion News, a legal researcher at Columbia University, and a legal intern. I am currently still a writer with Detroit Fashion News and I am still a legal researcher for Columbia University. I also started blogging on my personal blog, Kay Kay’s Way, when I was a senior at Michigan State University.

How many people are involved in the company and what are their roles?
Currently, I am the only one in the company and I do everything!

If you could start over with the business, would you do anything differently?
I would be more prepared for how hard it can be to get press coverage for your business when it is brand new.

What is the hardest challenge you have faced since you started the company?
My business is very new and is not even up to a year old. Therefore, it was very challenging to get magazines etc. to feature Kay Kay’s Fashion. However, once British Vogue featured Kay Kay’s Fashion, I started to get a lot of press since many more people had seen and heard of Kay Kay’s Fashion.

Tell us one fact about you that people wouldn’t know?
I am twenty-five years old and before I turned twenty-two, I had visited all seven continents including Antarctica. I also really love to travel and I have lived in Canada in addition to living in the United States of America.

Where do you plan on taking the brand in 2018?
In 2018, I plan on adding more items to Kay Kay’s Fashion. I also plan on getting Kay Kay’s Fashion into brick and mortar stores!

To date, what has been the highlight since launching?
Being featured in British Vogue three times and being featured in Tatler even though Kay Kay’s Fashion is still less than a year old.
