Making any form of self-expression or creativity such as interior design, paintings, sculptures, architecture, crafts, collages, and so forth is considered as art. This is because each of us can create masterpieces that only we can understand and appreciate since there are many kinds of art in the world. That is exactly why you should always strive to become a designer on your own terms. Whether it’s brand new glass fencing for your pool or a chic interior room divider, there’s always something that can elevate your home.
If you can envision something incredible and you know in your heart that it’ll turn out beautiful, why don’t you try and do it? Maybe you’ll even find someone else who can appreciate your work just as much as you do. Trust in your capabilities and continue working on whatever kind of art you want to produce because no one has the right to judge you. It is your work, have confidence in yourself, and in the end prove that it is, indeed, worthy of being called art.
Many careers are centered around the arts. Professionals such as sculptors, architects, singers, dancers, painters, as well as fashion designers can be called artists. We often think that having this job is not easy to study and well, that is somewhat true, for a career in this field is something pursued and not handed over. Having a passion and devotion for your craft is key for you to succeed in establishing art.
Creating a design you like should not be done just because you are talented or knowledgeable in that type of handicraft, but also because you love what you are doing. In this type of field, what would be the easiest profession? Also, is there even an art that can be considered as “easy”?
Being an architect, sculptor, or designer isn’t effortless because it requires a lot of studying. In actuality, any field of art isn’t easy because you have to dedicate a lot of time and effort into practicing it, before you can say that you’re a trained professional. On the other hand, learning and understanding this kind of course doesn’t necessarily have to be difficult if you are enjoying what you are doing.
Speaking of which, we can say that interior design is also a pretty difficult track. It can’t be mastered within a day since there are so many varieties of styles that should be studied.
After hearing that, you might suddenly be thinking that you can’t pursue this course and automatically give up. It is truly sad when you realize how hard it is and considerably even more heartbreaking to second guess yourself on whether you can start training in this art, especially if you know that you want to but are too afraid of the chance that you might not finish your degree.
If your thoughts are somewhere along those lines, don’t be discouraged! Did you know that there are also some famous designers that didn’t finish their degree and even some that don’t have any school accomplishment at all? These icons of design are none other than Karl Lagerfeld, COCO Chanel, and Michael Kors.
Let’s talk about Karl Lagerfeld, at the age of 14, he made the bold decision of moving to Paris with his parent’s permission. He submitted sketches and fabric samples to a design competition and ended up taking first place in the coat category. He soon acquired a full time job with French designer Pierre Balmain as a junior assistant, then later on as an apprentice.
COCO Chanel on the other hand, also didn’t finish school because at an early age of 18, she already worked with apparel and was raised by a nun that taught her how to sew. Around the time she was 20 years old, Chanel met two men that would help her in her first fashion venture.
You yourself can also research about designers that didn’t finish any degree and discover that they are still having the time of their lives because they encouraged themselves to pursue what they truly wanted. So don’t discourage yourself just because someone made you feel disheartened or because you feel that it’s too hard of a task. Instead of negative thoughts, focus on the fact that pursuing this might help change your life completely.
My intention in giving these examples is to encourage you to learn a field of art that you want. The same ideology also goes for those that are thinking of taking interior design. It may be hard at first and you may struggle in learning this profession, but even so, always take comfort in the fact that it’ll be incredibly fulfilling to learn and do what you want.
In my opinion, I sincerely think that in learning interior design, a degree or course isn’t fundamentally needed. You just have to be creative in your own way. An innovative mind and encouragement from your family are the truly important factors to succeed in this track. This can be ascertained after reading the story of Karl Lagerfeld, since requesting his parent’s permission was important to him before going to Paris.
I also don’t have any experience with interior design. I only did some research and executed my vision. This is because I have a high regard for my family and have always thought about improving or designing my own space since it makes me happy.
Before changing or styling my space I see to it that my family agrees with a particular design that I think would look good. Doing this is simple, you can now search the internet for the different styles under interior design, show it to the whole family, and then ask for their opinions.
If you are a family-oriented person, you’re always thinking about a style that the whole household would like. I personally suggest the styles modern country, modern farmhouse, mid-century modern, and traditional. These styles have a great ambience, are very unique, and not to mention the whole family can easily take a liking to them. You can search these designs for further information.
If you are a person that lives alone, a bachelor, single lady, or just someone that has their own space, you have more of an advantage and authority in designing your residence. You can freely search for a design that you think best represents your personality and adapt it while injecting your own uniqueness to the mix.
The different styles that might fit the taste of the ‘bachelors’ are contemporary, rustic, eclectic, and mid-century. Conversely, for the ‘single ladies’, they can try shabby chic, coastal, hollywood regency, and french country. Browse all the designs that I mentioned and find the one that resonates with your style the most.
After reading, I hope you realized that ‘everyone is a designer of their own unique art’. I wish that this piece has helped encourage you to pursue or do interior design. Please leave a comment on the impact of this article on you and don’t forget to share it to your friends as well.
