Mattress Sizing Facts You Need To Know

Travelers need to know a lot of facts about their travel experience before they ever leave home if they want to have the optimal visit to wherever they are going. One of the overlooked items on the agenda is knowing what size bed ones needs while away from home. Beds come in a variety of sizes, and most hotels offer those various sizes to their visitors. It is a good plan to know which size if right for you before booking the stay.

Crib

Babies and toddlers sleep in cribs as they measure just 28 inches side by 52 inches long. If you are bringing along an infant or toddler on your vacation, you will likely need to reserve a crib in the hotel room that you plan on staying. They don’t tend to provide these in every room, but they usually have more than enough of them to go around if you give them a call and let them know you need one.

Twin

A twin mattress is the smallest size mattress that may still be appropriate for an adult. However, most adults don’t find them to be large enough at 38 inches wide by 75 inches long. These are most commonly used for children. It is common to see this size bed available in a hotel room as many people bring their children along with them when they take trips. However, if this is the only size bed available in your hotel room there could be an issue.

Full

A full-sized mattress is more common still for an adult to use, but it is again on the smaller size of what most would find comfortable. It is 54 inches wide by 80 inches long. This is probably okay if you are going to travel alone and don’t move much in your sleep. It is not ideal to sleep in this sized mattress if you have a partner that will be sharing a bed with you, even if that partner is a child.

Queen

This is perhaps the ideal mattress for those who want a comfortable sleeping experience and also don’t want to spend too much money to make that happen. The Queen mattress is 60 inches wide by 80 inches long. It is perfect for couples or for those who move around a lot in their sleep. Those who have pets may appreciate it as well for the extra space that it provides for their dogs or cats to join them in bed.

King

Most people think that this is the largest bed size made, but it is not (we will get to that in just a minute), but the King size bed still comes in at an impressive 76 inches wide by 80 inches long. It is perfect for someone who moves around a lot in their sleep and who has a partner in the bed with them. It provides plenty of space, and it is one of the most requested sizes for hotels.

California King

Finally, we must examine the California King. It has dimensions of 72 inches tall by 84 inches long. It is the perfect size for those who prefer extra length to their bed. Particularly tall individuals may love this bed for its sizing. Those who curl up in the fetal position while they sleep may not need something this lengthy, but those who sleep fully stretched out will do better to have something like this.
