According to the International Food Information Council Foundation’s 13th Annual Food and Health Survey, more than one-third of U.S. consumers are dieting. By combining a healthy diet with plenty of exercise, you can look your best, live longer, increase your energy levels and have fun. However, you’ll need to create a plan and stick with it to reach your fitness goals. Here are some simple ways to get and stay motivated.

1. Choose Activities You Enjoy

You should choose to partake in activities and routines that you look forward to and enjoy. That way, exercising will be a great way to relax instead of a chore. You can hike on roads or trails near your home, explore your neighborhood, go swimming, jog, check out the scenery, learn about local wildlife, and more. Just keep trying activities until you find something you love.

2. Work Out with a Friend

If you work out with a friend, you can help each other stay motivated. If you don’t know anyone, you can meet new people and try new exercises in a fitness class. People who don’t feel like going to a gym can take online classes to make exercising more fun and interesting. A course also makes measuring your progress easy, allowing you to set and achieve reasonable goals.

3. Take Care of Yourself

Dieting and exercising can put stress on your body, and you’ll need to take good care of yourself. Drink lots of fluids to reduce your cravings for snacks, choose nutritious foods with the vitamins and minerals you need, and don’t deprive yourself of occasional desserts or other treats. Think of your new diet and exercise routine as a healthy lifestyle change, not a temporary way to lose weight. Getting enough sleep is essential as well. A University of Chicago study showed that people who slept less felt hungrier and lost fat more slowly.

4. Keep a Regular Schedule

Keeping a regular routine will help you remember to eat healthily and exercise every day. It will also make avoiding snacks and staying fit easier. According to a study from the National Institutes of Health, people who eat lunch before 3 p.m. lose more weight when dieting than those who prefer to eat later. Of course, you can choose to exercise in the morning or the afternoon, but another NIH study found that performance increases when people are active at around the same time every day.

5. When You Make Progress, Reward Yourself

Dieting and exercising can be difficult, but you can motivate yourself with some enticing rewards. When you start looking better in your outfits, celebrate with a sexy, slimming bodysuit that’s ideal for working out. You can also take a short break from your diet or indulge in a massage. Along with smaller rewards for making progress, give yourself a larger gift for reaching your diet and exercise goals. For example, you could go on a relaxing vacation.

Don’t Give Up Too Easily

You may have to try a few diets or exercise programs before you find the best ones for you, and you shouldn’t get discouraged if you don’t see results immediately. You could need a few weeks to start losing weight and feeling better.

But as long as you keep working hard and commit to change, you’re bound to reach your fitness goals. Pick fun activities, exercise with friends, treat and take care of yourself, and stick to a schedule to improve your overall health and well-being.
