Tell us about the journey that lead you to launching your brand, Next Level Skin…
During COVID lockdown in Sydney, Australia, my sister and I went through some tough times with our skin. My sister had developed acne, she couldn’t go anywhere with lockdown, and her face was getting worse, she tried several products to help reduce her acne and inflammation; however, no matter what she tried, it just wouldn’t go away. I was diagnosed with Dermatitis after the birth of my second son and had red dry itchy patches of skin all over my face. The doctors prescribed me steroids and other heavy medication, but I didn’t want to take these as I was still breastfeeding. I knew there must be a natural skincare alternative to all of this, so I started researching and finally found a handful of super strong yet gentle and natural ingredients with science-backed evidence that were amazing at healing your skin. At first, I created a mask and oil to assist with my sister’s skin condition; she used these products consistently for one week and was seeing amazing results; she continued to use them for 6 weeks until she was acne free! I then created the healing balm and used it with the supercharged facial oil, and the results were incredible! Within a week my dry patches, redness and itchy skin diminished. It was like I never had Dermatitis. My sister and I were amazed at how great our skin looked and felt and how quickly our skin cleared up! We had to share this with the world, and that’s where the journey to Next Level Skin began.
How do you want people to feel when using your products?
We want everyone to feel confident and beautiful in their own skin! Afterall, its going to represent us for a very long time and we need to take care of it. Healthy skin glows and that’s the result we want for each and every one of our customers – to have clear, healthy and glowing skin that they love and deserve!
Looking back since launching the brand, is there anything you would do differently?
We’ve learnt so much from running this business, and when I look back on it now, I feel like the timing of everything that unfolded was perfect. The lessons we learned helped shape us and our business into what it is today, so I can’t think of anything that we would have done differently. I’m happy with the way everything has turned out.
Who’s involved in the business and what are their roles?
My sister and I run the business. We’re both the Directors and Co-Founders of the company. I take care of the manufacturing, packaging and admin side of things while she takes care of our marketing, fulfilment, and customer service.
Do you plan to launch new products in the future?
Yes, we get tonnes of messages and emails asking if we have a hair oil available, and so we’re in the works of launching a natural and science-backed formula for strengthening and growing hair. We’re so excited!
For anyone interested in launching a skincare business, what advice would you offer them?
There’s a lot of steps involved, a lot of risk to be taken and a lot of research to be done but once you have the legalities out of the way just see where the needs of the consumer are and create a product that fulfils that need.
Talk us through an average day in your life…
We sell to customers worldwide and have dozens, sometimes hundreds of messages and emails to reply to and questions to answer. Once that’s out of the way, we have the day to ourselves. Our products are all made in bulk in Australia, so we don’t need to worry about the manufacturing side anymore. We’ve got a good routine in place now to spend more time with our families.
How much has social media played a role in the success of your brand?
All of our success so far has been thanks to Social Media. My sister has a big TikTok following, and the reason we kept selling out so fast within 24 hours of each launch was because her followers experienced her skin journey with her; they saw how her skin transformed while we were in lockdown. My sister grew her following on TikTok and Instagram by being open about her skin experience and talking about our products very honestly and authentically to her followers. Her followers started using Next Level Skin products and loving it; they then started posting their feedback on the products and started spreading the word and talking about Next Level Skin withtheir followers. Like that, we continued to grow. We even caught the attention of big brands like Vogue, Vanity Fair, Glamour UK and yourselves, who all reached out to us about wanting to feature our products in their magazines, and we were absolutely thrilled to say yes!
What is your go-to quote when lacking motivation?
I’m not sure who said it exactly but it’s along the lines of “The rung of a ladder was only made for you to stand on long enough that you can reach your other foot somewhere higher” and that really resonated with me because I hate being in the same place too long and getting comfortable, I like to push outside my comfort zone and see what else we can be doing to help us grow and continue rising higher.
Our readers love to travel, what destination is on your must visit list?
I love Turkey! I’ve been there once with my husband and it was an amazing trip! I would love to do it again with my whole family this time and my sister would love to go to Greece!
What does self care mean to you?
Self care to me is having time to look after your health, happiness, and mental wellbeing. Whether its getting your skincare game on, having a relaxing bath, meditating or even just some quiet time at the end of each day to watch a tv show or read a book, I think it’s really important to allow yourself that time to spend on just YOU and what you like to do.
Where do you see the brand in the next 5 years?
Our goal is to have our own warehouse with more staff and be running a highly profitable business where we can give back to our community and help the poor.
