The Lake District holds a special place in the hearts of many, but for myself and my dear mother, Jane, it is a sanctuary of memories. We have spent countless cherished moments in this breathtaking region with my late father and my mum’s husband of 40 years, whom we sadly lost two years ago. So, when we had the opportunity to visit The Samling and spend a night in their Elter Water suite, we knew it would be an experience filled with nostalgia and tranquility.

As we arrived at The Samling, we were immediately enveloped in a sense of luxury and warmth. Nestled amidst the Lakeland fellside, the hotel offered a mesmerizing panoramic view of Windermere and the Coniston Old Man mountain range. It was a sight that instantly reminded us of the beauty that had captivated us time and again.

The Samling’s commitment to exceptional hospitality and comfort was evident from the moment we stepped through the door. The attentive but unobtrusive service made us feel truly welcomed and cared for. Our suite, the Elter Water, was a split-level barn-style haven. The ground floor housed a stunning bathroom adorned with Carrara marble, boasting a large bath and a separate walk-in shower. A few steps up, we discovered a cozy sitting room, offering expansive views of the serene lake, and adorned with soothing stone neutrals and accents of dove pink. Finally, tucked under the eaves, we found a bedroom featuring a super-king-sized bed, promising a restful night’s sleep.

One of the highlights of our stay was indulging in the exquisite tasting menu at The Samling’s renowned restaurant. Although my mother and I don’t consume alcohol, the thoughtful team at The Samling crafted the perfect pairing of alcohol-free mocktails that flawlessly complemented each dish. The highly evolved, clear, and bold flavours were a testament to the culinary artistry of Executive Head Chef Robby Jenks. Each course, from the Iberico Ham and Asparagus to the Wagyu Beef with Lovage and Potato, delighted our taste buds and left us craving more. The grand simplicity of the lake and mountain views only enhanced the dining experience, solidifying The Samling as one of the finest restaurants in the Lake District.

During our stay, we also took the opportunity to immerse ourselves in nature’s embrace. A walk in the fresh air led us to encounter Shetland ponies grazing in the distance, reminding us of the wild beauty that flourishes in this region. Exploring the 67 acres of picturesque English countryside surrounding The Samling was a joyous experience. We followed winding woodland trails, crossed charming bridges, and marveled at the cascading ornamental water gardens. Nature’s tranquility wrapped us in a comforting embrace, healing our hearts and allowing us to connect with the memories we hold dear.

Back from exploring, what better way to while away the hours than to indulge in the tranquility of The Samling’s private hot tub? As we discovered, this hidden gem nestled in the woodlands was a true delight for the senses. A short meander from the main building, the hot tub was perfectly cocooned into the hillside, offering a secluded retreat for guests seeking relaxation and serenity.

This hidden gem at The Samling has been celebrated as one of the most breathtaking views you can find. Recognised for its natural beauty and serenity, this spot has garnered acclaim for being among the finest in the world. From the comfort of the private hot tub, tucked away in the woodlands and nestled into the hillside, guests are treated to an awe-inspiring panorama. As we sank into the bubbling water, a sense of wonder washed over us as we took in the sweeping vistas down the hillside, across the meadows, and onto the glistening expanse of Lake Windermere. It was a view that spoke to the soul and left an indelible impression. Surrounded by lush gardens, the hot tub offered a secluded haven where guests can let their cares melt away. Whether you choose to enjoy a soak during the day or as the sun sets over the lake and the moon rises, this private retreat promises an unforgettable experience.

Surrounded by flourishing gardens, the hot tub provided a sense of privacy and seclusion, allowing us to let our cares soak away in blissful solitude. We surrendered ourselves to the warm embrace of the water, feeling the tensions melt away and the worries of the world fade into the distance. It was a moment of pure indulgence and rejuvenation.

For those seeking the ultimate relaxation experience, The Samling offers guests the opportunity to book the hot tub for one-hour slots throughout the day. However, we highly recommend taking a dip at dusk. As the sun set across the lake and cast its golden glow on the distant fells, a magical ambiance enveloped us. The moon rose over the water, casting a gentle shimmer, and the symphony of nature’s evening chorus serenaded us. It was a moment of pure tranquility, etching itself into our memories forever.

As we reluctantly bid farewell to The Samling, we carried with us a sense of rejuvenation and gratitude. This haven of luxury and nostalgia had provided us with an opportunity to honour our cherished memories while creating new ones. The Samling’s commitment to impeccable service, unmatched views, and sumptuous comfort made our stay truly unforgettable.

If you find yourself yearning for an escape that seamlessly blends breathtaking landscapes with refined luxury, look no further than The Samling. Allow yourself to be embraced by the heartwarming beauty of the Lake District and indulge in an experience that will leave an indelible mark on your soul. The Samling awaits, ready to wrap you in its embrace and create memories that will last a lifetime.
