Lan Kwai Fong has become synonymous with the nightlife scene of Hong Kong over the years. However, this wasn’t the case until 1983 when Allan Zeman famously opened California Restaurant on a narrow alleyway in this forgotten part of the Central district. Before that time, it was dominated by flower shops and warehouses but Allan had the vision to see the potential of the area. By 1984, Allan had bought the entire block and launched his career as a property mogul and a hospitality specialist. He reportedly owns 65% of properties in the Lan Kwai Fong area. His impeccable business acumen has seen him involved in wide-ranging industries from TVB (the ITV equivalent in Hong Kong), the Airport Authority of Hong Kong and Wynn Macau. He is currently the chairman of LKF Group whilst his son, Jonathan Zemen is the CEO.

The district is the place to be for all kinds of celebrations from Halloween to New Year’s Eve. Whilst people associate the countdown in New York with Times Square, locals and tourists alike gravitate towards Lan Kwai Fong on New Year’s Eve. Apart from being a major landlord in the area, they own some of the most distinguished restaurants in the area. The eclectic choices on offer have been the key to their success. In such a small radius, you’ll find the very best steakhouse in the city, the freshest sashimi dishes and restaurants with breathtaking views of the city.

In Hong Kong, it’s always been about sourcing the very best ingredients rather than local produce, being a tiny island in the South China Sea. At Porterhouse, you can savour full-blood wagyu from Mayura, Australia to extremely well-marbled, Rubia Gallega from Los Nortenos, Spain. Their legendary seafood brunch is unrivalled with unlimited oysters, Boston lobster and Irish crab. No other country executes buffets quite like Hong Kong and this is one of the most spectacular, you’ll encounter.

If you want to admire the scintillating skyline of Hong Kong, a top choice to consider is dining at Aria on the 24/F of California Tower. With floor-to-ceiling glass, an outdoor terrace and a trendy mixture of contemporary and art-deco touches, this is the place to see and be seen. You won’t be surprised to find the operatic nature of the restaurant name has inspired a menu filled with elevated Italian classics. Melanzane alla puttanesca and spaghettoni all’Amatriciana are all created from traditional family-style recipes but presented for 21st-century consumption. They have a wine club series in the coming months focusing on wines from different regions of Italy. In May, it will be Marche, in June, it will be Lazio and in July, it will be Tuscany. You’ll get to explore wineries that are hidden gems whilst dining on the finest Italian produce at this ever-popular restaurant.

Japanese food is undoubtedly still all the rage in Hong Kong. And the LKF Group have three distinguished offerings: Fumi – Japanese kaiseki, Tokio Joe – sushi & sake and Kyoto Joe – modern izakaya. Tokio Joe is particularly worthy of a mention. It is THE original Japanese restaurant of Lan Kwai Fong having been opened since 1995. It is one of the first restaurants in Hong Kong to offer an omakase menu. Their sashimi platters offer delicacies which you’ll rarely experience in Europe such as succulent Hokkaido sea urchin and akagai (red clam). They do frequently launch new products to be in tune with the times. Kyoto Joe offers an unlimited vegetarian feast which includes the likes of cauliflower tempura and yam sushi rolls. They also offer a decadent-sounding A4 Wagyu & lobster tasting menu dinner.

Lan Kwai Fong has developed into a cultural phenomenon with the likes of the Lan Kwai Fong beer and music festival. They’ve also expanded their brand into China with LKF Chengdu and LKF852 Prince Bay. They are most definitely one of the most exciting companies to have evolved in Hong Kong over the past decades and one to watch as the expansion plans are limitless.

The History Of Budapest – Buda vs Pest

Before jumping into our best travel tips, let’s start with the history of Budapest, the city that lives a double life. Behind the beautiful Capital of Hungary, lies fascinating history and rich culture.

Buda and Pest lie on either side of the Danube River, and not only give the city its name but also define the lifestyle and character of each side – both completely different. Linked by the Chain Bridge since 1849, each side is easy to access, and even has a mini island, with plenty of fun activities, located in the middle of the river to add to its uniqueness.

Their separation runs deeper than the river though, these two regions have their own distinct personalities. Where Buda’s hills offer sweeping panoramas across the city, Pest is entirely flat. While Buda’s Castle District purrs with imperial taste, Pest’s buzzing bar scene is always lively.

Discover which side is suited to you, or you may even prefer to be in the middle, at Margaret Island.

BUDA

The Buda side is a classical district offering tranquil settings, beautiful architecture and breathtaking views of the city. Most travellers that visit Budapest head over to the bridge to take in the iconic Buda castle, Fisherman’s Bastion and the charming neighbourhood that surrounds it.

It’s a beautiful part of the city, but Buda stretches far and there’s so much more to see than its renowned Buda Castle.

Things To Do In The Buda District

Indulge In Buda’s Turkish Baths

Looking to add a little relaxation to your Budapest visit? Don’t miss out on the opportunity to indulge in Buda’s Turkish baths.

The Hungarian capital is renowned for its Roman thermal spas, but that’s not the only option the city has to offer. The baths on the Buda side are a lot more upscale and luxurious than the ones you would see on the Pest side.

Indulge in the most beautiful Turkish baths, Gellért Spa is famous for its Art Nouveau entrance hall, or discover the Ottoman-built Rudas Baths, Budapest’s oldest thermal baths or the expensive, but historical Kiraly Bath. This is a truly beautiful and historic place that you will not want to miss out on.

Explore Buda’s Caves

If you’re wanting to dig deep into Budapest’s history, the caves are a must for your to do list! ‘Castle Labryinth’ is located underneath the Buda Castle. Adventure into two natural caves with stunning stalactite and stalagmite formations, and you might even spot some crystals!

Visit Buda Castle

A must-see on any Budapest travel guide, the Buda Castle with its tumultuous history is an Unesco World Heritage Site and one of the most iconic landmarks in Budapest.

Buda Castle has been rebuilt and destroyed several times, and the last time it was brought down was during World War II. The castle suffered heavy damage due to Allied bombings, and it was almost completely reduced to rubble. Its strategic location as a German military headquarters made it a prime target, resulting in extensive destruction of the castle’s structure and interiors.

However, the Hungarian government didn’t let this setback dampen their spirits, and they undertook a massive restoration project to revive the castle’s former grandeur. The restoration work continued for over a decade, and the castle was finally restored to its former glory.

Today, Buda Castle is one of Budapest’s most prominent landmarks and home to a number of museums and cultural institutions, including the Budapest History Museum. This museum is a treasure trove of artefacts and exhibits that tell the story of Budapest’s rich history, from ancient times to the present day.

Visitors can explore the castle’s underground tunnels, admire mediaeval architecture and artefacts, and learn about the city’s complex past.

Enjoy a Drink At Budai Parkszinpad

Once an open-air theatre that fell into disuse for years, Újbuda’s Feneketlen Tó, which translates as the Bottomless Lake, has a cool summer hangout.

The old theatre has had new life injected into its amphitheatre-esque structure offering an open-air complex that comes complete with a fully stocked bar as well as some Balkan bites courtesy of Montenegrói Gurman. This has become the new Kertem of Buda, especially coming to life when the multi-coloured fairy lights come on after dark.

Relax On Bartok Bela Street

Bartók Béla Street is a newly hip part of Buda. Historically a hangout spot for Hungary’s creatives, it’s still a cultural melting pot thanks to the students from the local BME University that frequent the area.

We recommend stopping at Hadik for lunch, or Kelet if you’d like to browse their bookshelf for something to read while you sip.

If you’re vegan, be sure to check out Veganlove for their burgers, and if you find yourself there at sunset, be sure to grab a drink and go sit in Lake Feneketlen Park, with its cute scenery and surroundings.

Stroll The Streets Of Castle Hill

Take a stroll through the charming cobblestone streets of the Castle District, admire the beautiful architecture and stop at quaint shops and cafes along the way.

You can also visit Matthias Church, a stunning mediaeval church with a colourful tiled roof, or explore the Hungarian National Gallery, which houses an impressive collection of Hungarian art.

PEST

While Buda is renowned for its grandeur and attractions like Hapsburg Palace, Pest is fiery and lively and home to bustling backdrops of ruin pubs, historic attractions, and replete café culture.

Things To Do In The Pest District

Take a Dip At Széchenyi Thermal Bath

Hungarians love a spa setting and head to Széchenyi Thermal Bath in the summer months to cool off in the outdoor pools. This thermal bath is one of the biggest natural hot springs in the world featuring 18 swimming pools with both freshwater and geothermal baths on site. The water source is from hot springs below Heroes’ Square, drilled in the late 19th century.

Enjoy a thermal bath by day, no matter what time of the year the waters will keep you warm, or party by night in the disco events held by Széchenyi.

The Palm House is the bathhouse’s rooftop oasis, filled with exotic plants and tall palms thriving in the heat of the baths and the sunlit glass-topped roof.

Visit Heroes Square

Adjacent to the Palace of Art and the Museum of Fine Arts, Heroes’ Square commemorates Hungary’s most prominent leaders. Set at the City Park entryway, Heroes’ Square, was built in the late 19th century. At the monument’s front section, a large cenotaph is flanked by a decorative iron chain, dedicated to the heroes that died fighting for national independence.

On the flip side, it is a major attraction within the square: the iconic series of statues epitomizing the Seven Chieftains of the Magyars. Because of the square’s historic significance and dedications, it’s common to see major political events happening within it.

Take a Wonder Down Váci Street

Váci Street is Budapest’s most popular avenue in the downtown area filled with everything a city needs: restaurants, bars, and shops are found along this stretch in the Belvaros neighborhood. The summer months bring the crowds and so does the popular Christmas market in Vörösmarty Square. It has everything to offer including wine shops, clothing stores, bakeries, traditional items, and bookstores abound.

Váci Street displays varying architecture, dozens of large statues, and the beautiful 18th century Church of Saint Michael, where the Budapest Baroque Festival happens.

How Many Days Are Enough In Budapest?

The European city break of dreams, Budapest has so much to offer! We would recommend adventuring around the city for four days with a jam-packed itinerary. Both sides of Budapest are easily accessible, whether you get public transportation, use taxi drivers or simply walk and get your steps in.

And if you wish to visit Budapest’s city centre and are wondering where it is considering the city’s two sides, let us fill you in. The heart of the city lies in District V., also known as the downtown or Belváros.

Walking around a city is definitely the best way to explore, as you see some amazing sights and discover aspects you usually wouldn’t. After all, adventures are all about getting lost in the city!

You also have the option to buy tickets for interrailing or day trips to other European cities such as Prague and Vienna, you can see as much of Europe as you like once you have fully explored Budapest.

What Is The Best Month To Go To Budapest?

For those of you interested in knowing the best time to visit Budapest, we would recommend the off-peak seasons such as May or September. The weather is usually warm during this time, but not too hot with the average temperature at 23°. You can enjoy cocktails by the river, but still explore as much as you like without feeling the sweat. It’s also less crowded with tourists, and it will be easier to book restaurants, spas and activities.

Gulyas

Every visitor to Budapest is familiar with the traditional Hungarian dish Goulash, or as locals call it, Gulyás.

The specialty is a stew-like soup with beef, onion, tomatoes, pepper, paprika, and other ingredients, originally cooked in a cast iron over an open fire. It used to be the typical food of herdsmen cooking it in a kettle on fire in the open-air, and only in the 19th century, Goulash became a national treasure, which is now an essential part of the mouth-watering Hungarian cuisine.

Located on Italy’s Amalfi Coast, high above the towns of Positano and Praiano is the Path of the Gods or “Il Sentiero degli Dei” in Italian. Legend has it that this is the path walked by the Greek gods in order to save Ulysses from the sirens who lived in nearby Li Galli.

The Path of the Gods is now a famous hiking route popular amongst both locals and tourists and one that you won’t want to miss if you’re visiting the Amalfi Coast or plan on walking Italy.

The Route

The main section of this famous hiking route is a 6.5 km (4 mile) stretch between the Italian villages of Bomerano and Nocelle. The route offers stunning views of the sea and coastal towns below and as it’s a relatively flat route, it’s suitable for anyone who is reasonably fit.

You can also start or finish the route in Praiano (which is below Bomerano) or Positano (located below Nocelle), however, it should be noted that this will increase the time and difficulty of the route, as the towns are connected to the route by a steep staircase of over 1,500 steps!

Places to Stay and Things to Do

As a popular tourist destination, there’s no shortage of places to stay on the Amalfi Coast, with accommodations ranging from luxury hotels through to vacation rentals. During your stay, you can experience the mouthwatering local cuisine, including fresh seafood and pizza as well as delicious wine and cocktails.

In addition to hiking the Path of the Gods, there are plenty of other things to see and do during your trip. You can visit the Chiesa di Santa Maria Assunta in Positano, a beautiful domed church dating back to the 10th century! There are also many museums, art galleries and gardens to explore.

You could take a boat out and view the breathtaking coastline from the water and you can even sail to Li Galli, made famous by Homer’s Odyssey or visit Fiordo di Furore, Italy’s only fjord, which is located between Praiano and Ravello.

Making the Most of Your Visit

The best time to hike the Path of the Gods is from late spring to early autumn, though you need to be aware that it gets very crowded during peak tourist season, which runs from May through September. Avoiding weekends and public holidays can also ensure you have a more peaceful hike.

It’s recommended that you hike the trail during the morning, to avoid the hottest hours of the day and be sure to pack sunscreen, a sun hat and sunglasses. You should also take a water bottle, which you can refill from taps along the route, near Praiano, Nocelle and Bomerano. The Path of the Gods is quite uneven and rocky, so wear comfortable shoes. There are markers to help you follow the trail, so you don’t need to worry about getting lost and can focus your attention on the spectacular views!

Plan Your 2023 Las Vegas Holiday

There’s never been a better time to plan your dream holiday to this iconic destination. So pack your bags, and prepare to make some memories in the heart of the Nevada desert.

Las Vegas, here we come!

If you’re looking for the ultimate day out in London, then Knightsbridge is the place to be. With its upscale vibes and world-renowned stores, Knightsbridge is the go-to destination for a day of sheer indulgence. We went on a 24 hour tourist hop of Knightsbridge, including the iconic Harrods and Harvey Nichols. So, strap in and come with us for a day of lavishness!

First Stop: Harrods

We couldn’t have a luxury day in Knightsbridge without visiting world famous Harrods. Setting foot in this iconic department store feels like entering an exquisite palace of opulence. With its grand architecture, dazzling window displays, and luxurious interiors, Harrods is a shopaholic’s dream come true.

Packed with fashion-forward designer collections covering all bases from
on-trend streetwear to haute couture, Harrods has it all. You can browse through the latest fashion pieces from top luxury brands like Dior, Gucci, Chanel and Louis Vuitton to name but a few. Whether you’re in the mood for a chic outfit for a night out or a statement piece for your Instagram feed, Harrods has something to suit your style.

This eminent store isn’t just about fashion though. As you wander through its hallowed halls, you’ll also find an endless array of premium beauty products, fine jewellery, exquisite homewares, and gourmet treats. Treat yourself to a luxe beauty haul with high-end skincare from La Mer or indulge in a piece of fine jewellery from Tiffany & Co. And don’t forget to check out the famous Harrods Food Hall, a haven for foodies, where you can sample delectable delights from around the globe.

Harrods is also home to critically acclaimed dining offerings. From the famed ground floor foodhall all the way to the top with the latest jewel in the crown – Norwegian fusion fifth floor restaurant Studio Frantzén.

To say our leisurely lunch there was perfection would be doing it a great injustice. It has rocketed to one of my favourite ever London lunches, and there’s some fierce competition in that category, let me tell you!
What they can do with fried brocolli and pork belly is the stuff of legends.

We started off enjoying the custom made roof terrace, our champagne bubbles glowing in the spring sunshine against the backdrop of the London skyline. We chose our food there and then were escorted to the restaurant downstairs when it was ready as we wanted to soak up the decadence indoors for the main event and enjoy the buzzy atmosphere around the vast open plan kitchen.

The theatrical presentation of the food only adds to its delectable excellence. We feasted on a curation of grilled oysters (the smoked butter sauce was inspired!), roasted cauliflower with black winter truffle, grilled guinea fowl, salad ‘bonito cesear’ and the signature Sweden vs Japan dish – braised beef brisket, grilled Japanese Wagyu, lemongrass jus & Japanese mustard.

Accompanied by deep-fried Hasselback potato with whipped browned butter & cream cheese and Charred broccolini with eel sauce, mint & Thai basil, I can honestly say this was one of the most flavoursome meals we had ever had the pleasure of. Each dish and morsel was a new discovery of flavour fusions, deep layered textures and a purity of ingredients that Chef Patron Björn Frantzén is renowned for.

I can’t neglect to mention the unique hand painted Morakniv knives by artist Pernilla Nordman. A unique touch and a wow moment which is just a drop in the ocean of the attention to detail at Studio Frantzén
I cannot recommend this restaurant any more highly, please indulge yourself, thank me later!

Drybar: Harrods Blow Dry Bar

After our immersive culinary experience, we dropped down 5 floors to indulge in some pampering at Harrods exclusive hair salon, Drybar, to select a style from their extensive menu of options.
A glass of bubbly and the only head massage I’ve ever actually enjoyed later, our locks were being teased and styled to get date night ready.

I loved my big bouncy blow which miraculously held in my long locks the entire night, such was the skill from Sabrina, my stylist.
What struck me the most from the chats with both of our stylists was the cameraderie among the staff, that team spirit certainly spills over into the atmosphere and envelops the client in positivity.
We also loved their range of Drybar products they use exclusively, so light and highly effective.

Harvey Nichols

After our glow up it was time to continue our luxury day out with a visit to another Knightsbridge institution – Harvey Nichols. This upscale department store is known for its cutting-edge fashion and beauty, it’s a must-visit destination for any fashionista.

However, let’s not forget about Harvey Nichols’ home and lifestyle offerings. You can browse through unique home decor pieces and stylish touches to elevate your living space to new heights of luxury. From elegant dinnerware to luxurious bedding, Harvey Nichols has everything you need to make your home a haven of opulence.

After a shopping spree at Harvey Nichols, you can head to one of its on- trend restaurants for an epicurean dining experience. With options ranging from fine dining to casual eateries, Harvey Nichols offers a variety of culinary delights to satisfy your taste buds. You can enjoy a delicious meal prepared by world-class chefs, sip on artisanal cocktails, and soak in the chic atmosphere of the restaurant or head over to Burger & Lobster for a more casual vibe.

We love a roof terrace as much as you do, so headed to the top floor terrace and had an elegant evening sipping cocktails and grazing on small plates whilst soaking up the ambience. What a fashionable way to kick off your weekend.

Other activities to stimulate your senses in this neck of the woods, we would recommend taking in a visit to The ARX gallery on Brompton Road which is host to a diverse international programme of multi sensory solo and collaborative exhibitions from up and coming names and established icons such as Damien Hirst & Tracey Emin. It is open to the public Fridays & Saturdays or for private appointments at other times.

Get your nature kicks right in the heart of London and take a stroll in Hyde Park, one of London’s most iconic and beautiful spaces. You can explore this sprawling expanse in style, whether it’s by renting a bike, rollerblading, or simply taking a leisurely walk.

Hyde Park offers a range of activities for outdoor enthusiasts, including boating on the Serpentine Lake, playing sports on the vast green lawns, or purely relaxing and enjoying the natural beauty of the park.

A day in Knightsbridge is simply not enough, but it’s a great start!

Long trips have a calming effect on one’s mental and physical states. You feel at peace as you watch the trees race by or listen to the plane making its way over the air bumps. But eventually, you may start craving something to help you kill time. And often, people choose to play games because they entertain them and also keep them awake. Besides, with options like playing in anonline UK casino, you can find a wide variety of games that give you a chance to make money. Some of these casino sites even enable you to meet new people who could be at your destination!

We show you what activities can help you kill time, bond with your travel mates, and enhance your trip:

Fun Trip Activities

Singing along to popular songs might not feel like something you want to do during a long trip – especially when you barely know or remember the words. What else can you do?

1. Listen to a Podcast

Talking during a trip is fun. But sometimes, you run out of topics or tire of being in an active discussion. The easiest way to keep the conversation going is by listening to a podcast and giving your two cents about your opinion. Examples of podcasts that can spark conversations include those that touch on the following:

-Money,

-Health and fitness,

-Food, etc.

Such broad topics affect us all. Getting everyone on board should be pretty easy.

2. Eat

Hunger pangs will not go away once you start the trip. Most people tend to eat a lot while traveling. Some do so because of boredom, others out of habit, and others due to anxiety. Eating is also a great way to boost your energy levels and keep you from feeling grumpy during the trip. So, if you can find food, now would be an excellent time to indulge your taste buds.

3. Play a Game

Have you tried the card games that often have people hollering with laughter? They usually include questions like:

Who is most likely to get arrested on a Friday night?

Who is the least likely to get married by 40?

Such games often tease everyone in the group and help you better understand each other. If the group has children, you can try child-friendly games with questions like:

Name five types of trees

What fruits have vitamin C?

No matter the game version, you will likely grab everyone’s attention for about an hour. The game can last even longer with good food.

4. Learn a Language

Are you traveling to a destination where people speak a different language? Even if you are not, learning a foreign language is a great way to improve your brain. You can start with the basics like greetings, names of animals, and names of places. It should be fun listening to how other people pronounce the words. And you can get a good laugh out of it.

5. Listen to Music

Some trips can be so long that playing games and engaging in lengthy conversations can be tiresome. If you feel like lying back in your seat and listening to soothing music, that is also an option. Sometimes, it is the best way to bond with the people in your group. Who knows? After a few songs, you might find yourself singing along to the songs with your travel mates.

6. Swap Jokes

Everyone enjoys a good laugh. And what better way to enjoy your trip than by telling jokes? And in this game, you can look up jokes on the internet to amuse your travel mates!

Finally, consider resting. While long trips are a great way to boost your optimistic worldview, they can be tiring. And you don’t want to arrive at your destination feeling too tired to enjoy it. So, between the activities, find time tonap or even sleep so you can enjoy the trip even more!

Meander through floral meadows

North Sonoma Mountain Ridge Trail is a fantastic out-and-back option for those seeking a long-distance walk with steady gain. The first mile meanders mostly through a wildflower-filled meadow before coming to the Bennett Valley Overlook just after the one-mile mark. From there, the trail climbs through the trees and into Jack London State Park, the home and ranch of American novelist Jack London. This trail includes a four-mile stretch of the Bay Area Ridge Trail, an ongoing effort to link routes to create 550 miles of continuous public trails in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Take in views of the majestic Redwood Forest

The Armstrong Redwoods State Natural Reserve preserves 805 acres of majestic Coast Redwoods and is a living monument to the magnificent primaeval redwood forest that covered much of this area before logging operations began during the 19th century. The self-guided Armstrong Nature Trail is great for first-time visitors as you can learn about redwood trees from interpretive displays along the route, while the Discovery Trail has a tree-hugging platform.

Sip and stroll

For a multi-day hiking itinerary Wine Country Trekking offers self-guided, inn-to-inn walking holidays that can start either in San Francisco or various points around Sonoma County. Enjoy the astonishing expansive views of Serenity Swing in San Luis Obispo

Available as one of the three trails at Peterson Ranch, the Serenity Swing hike takes hikers on a delightful journey of wildlife sites, impressive scenery, and, of course, the shady tree at the summit with swings. Throughout the 5.6km trail, hikers are met with views of the surrounding hills and forestry, but the true reward is the summit of the trail. Two swings found in the shade of a tree that overlooks the vast scenic hilltop views are guaranteed to leave hikers feeling serene and rewarded for their efforts.

Appreciate the vistas of Monterey Bay

Monterey Bay Coastal Recreation Trail stretches 18 miles from Castroville to Lovers Point Park in Pacific Grove, hugging the coast where the tracks of the old South Pacific Railway once ran. Here you can rent bikes and kayaks from local businesses, detour onto the beach, stop to get a bite to eat or enjoy a picnic while enjoying the views of Monterey Bay, its sealion and sea otter residents, and maybe even whales. The trail goes right into the heart of Monterey’s attractions including Fisherman’s Wharf, Cannery Row and the Monterey Bay Aquarium and winds through the smaller communities of Seaside, Sand City and Marina.

Explore caves and rock formations

For fantastic rock formations and intriguing caves, Pinnacles National Park, which celebrates its 10th anniversary this year, has something for everyone with more than 30 miles of trails from grasslands to the rocky spires that Pinnacles is famous for. Children will enjoy the Moses Spring to Rim Trail Loop, an easy and educational two-mile round trip that takes in talus caves, giant boulders and a view of the Bear Gulch Reservoir. If it’s open, you can also explore Bear Gulch Cave but remember to bring a torch!

Wonderful Waterfall Walks

Possibly Big Sur’s best-kept secret, Limekiln State Park near Lucia, is in the US’s steepest coastal canyon and holds some of Monterey’s oldest redwood groves. Named after the four abandoned lime kilns that remain largely intact, the Park is home to three child-friendly trails that follow babbling brooks into the forest and can be completed independently or each as a warm-up to the next. The Falls Trail is the most challenging, involving crossing several brooks and steams before reaching a 100ft fan-shaped waterfall cascading down the rocky cliff. Bring swimming things to enjoy a cool-off in the natural stream below. From here you can also access Limekiln Beach, a protected beach where you can relax, enjoy a picnic and look out for dolphins.

Of course, New York is known for large hotels like the Palace, the Plaza, and the Waldorf-Astoria. But if you know, you know – the coolest stays are those Beautiful Boutique spots. With unique amenities, striking interiors and impeccable service, check these out for your next NYC getaway.

The Lowell

Established as a luxury hotel in 1927, The Lowell is found a block away from Central Park in the Upper East Side. The Lowell comes complete with a stylish restaurant, Majorelle and bar, Jacques, both of which are inspired by the iconic Yves Saint Laurent gardens in Marrakech. It is home to 74 rooms and suites, which offer guests the feeling of a private New York apartment. Many have spectacular views of Manhattan from beautiful terraces, gourmet kitchens and original, wood-burning fireplaces – a rare find in New York.

Beautiful Boutique

Smyth Tribeca

With only 100 guest rooms and suites, the Smyth offers an intimate city hideaway in one of the city’s most loved neighbourhoods, TriBeCa (Triangle Below Canal Street). The area is also home to the TriBeCa Film Center and the TriBeCa Film Festival.

Stay at the Smyth, and you might be able to spot acting heavyweights residents, like Meryl Streep, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Robert De Niro. Pressed for time? Get your sweat on at the 24-hour gym. Dining options include in-room dining, the Smyth Tavern and the Galerie Bar.

The Smyth Tavern serves up American tavern fare, including deviled eggs with caviar, a raw bar, and dry-aged steaks. In the lobby of the hotel, you can find the Galerie Bar. It’s a hidden, 12-seat bar with a front lounge and two cozy fireplaces. Perfect for your next fireside chat over some light bites.

MADE Hotel

On my last visit to NYC, I walked into Paper Coffee (in the lobby of the MADE Hotel) for a meeting and I made, (pun intended) a mental note to put this lovely boutique hotel on my list for my next New York stay.

Found in NoMad (29th and Broadway), this Scandi-style hotel features leafy green plants, bronze fixtures, wooden accents and bohemian fabrics that make my heart swoon. The low wooden platform beds hold comfy mattresses topped with Frette linens for the best night’s sleep. Keep your room tidy, with the foldable Maple Desk and hidden storage for your luggage in the platform bed frame.

The on-site restaurant, Debajo, is a tapas-inspired concept. Rooftop bar, Good Behaviour can be found on the 18th floor, while the Lobby Bar and Paper Coffee share the adjacent spaces on the main level.

Crosby Street Hotel

The first New York property for the London-based Firmdale Hotel group opened in Fall 2009 and has been a stateside jewel ever since. The 86 individually designed bedrooms and suites are spread over 11 floors, featuring floor-to-ceiling warehouse-style windows with tall headboards and sleek modern furniture. All design elements reflect Co-Owner and Creative Director Kit Kemp’s style.

The hotel is both colourful and quirky, with personally selected antique and modern elements. It is certified GOLD LEED by the US Green Building Council, making it one of the very first hotels in New York to have this certification.

The Crosby Bar serves food and drink throughout the day and is a great place to meet for breakfast, morning coffee, a casual lunch or dinner, afternoon tea or evening cocktails. Here, there is no distinction between a bar and a restaurant – guests can eat or drink wherever they wish. The bar opens onto a garden oasis with shady trees and ivy-covered walls serving guests respite from the busy city.

The High Line Hotel

From a 17th-century apple orchard to an 18th-century cloistered seminary, The High Line Hotel has transformed into Chelsea Square’s architectural masterpiece. The preserved gothic moulding and fireplaces are only highlighted by the hand-selected, one-of-a-kind pieces (like vintage typewriters) sourced from antique fairs and vintage markets alike. These fine details can be experienced in the 60 oversized, light-filled rooms.

This location is the ideal spot to explore Chelsea. Guests are welcome to borrow complimentary Shinola bicycles and a helmet for a ride to Hudson River Park or for use in the local area. Before you leave, say hello to Daisy, the 1957 London double-decker bus that is parked in the front garden. Or grab a coffee to go at Intelligentsia. When you return, switch your coffee for a cocktail at the Lobby Bar.

The Greenwich Hotel

I simply cannot write about TriBeCa and forget about The Greenwich Hotel. The hotel concept was conceived by Ira Drukier and Robert DeNiro, along with their partners Richard Born and Raphael De Niro, and created with regard to comfort and hand-crafted beauty. Look for the Moroccan tile, hand-loomed Tibetan silk rugs and hand-made Italian terracotta floors throughout the hotel.

The Greenwich Hotel has 88 rooms, thirteen suites, and two duplex suites: the Greenwich and the N. Moore. No two rooms are alike. Some suites have saunas and others have working fireplaces. The duplex suites have 30-foot skylights, chef’s kitchens, and two master bedrooms with two bathrooms, stone fireplaces, and offices with separate entrances. On the top floor, there is a 2,500-square-foot penthouse. It is complete with a rooftop garden with a private hot tub.

Eat at the adjoining Locanda Verde “Green Inn”. Its casual Italian dining offers views of the wood-burning oven and the open kitchen. In summer, Locanda Verde has outdoor cafe seating on Greenwich Street’s broad sidewalks. It also provides 24-hour room service to the hotel.

The Shibui Spa houses a lantern-lit swimming pool and lounge under the roof of a 250-year-old wood and bamboo farmhouse that has been reconstructed in the hotel by Japanese craftsmen. Try an Onsen ritual that pairs a tub soak with a soothing massage after a day exploring the city.
