Having a child is a life-changing experience and something, that, if you are being completely honest, you are not fully prepared for. It’s understandable, there are so many variables that it is impossible to plan for every eventuality.

In short, you need all the support you can get!

Of course, the same is true in, many areas of life. It can be argued that this is why the phrase “United we stand, divided we fall” came into being. People are stronger together and this is especially true for a community when you are bringing a child up.

Here’s why community is vital to raising a child:

Financial Support

No one expects other people to pay their way for them. After all, every member of the community has their own financial commitments and most people have limited incomes. While everyone can play the home lottery, not everyone can win.

However, being part of a community means you and your children will get financial support when you really need it. That’s reassuring and allows you to focus on giving your child the best possible start in life.

You only have to look at the many natural disasters across the globe to see how generous the wider community can be to those in need.

Emotional Support

However, community is generally seen as a much more local thing. Your community is the other families that live in your area. Through shared experiences, you will form bonds with them and this helps to ensure you always have someone to talk to.

You may be surprised to realize that this means your child will always have someone to talk to. While you hope they will always talk to you, being part of a community means there will be someone they feel capable of talking to.

That gives them and you emotional support and helps to ensure they are on the right path.

In fact, this is one of the greatest strengths of any community, the fact that everyone shares the same values.

Sharing the same values means that, regardless of who your child is chatting to, they will get good advice, along the same lines that you would give.

Knowledge

Naturally, a community is made up of lots of different people with different skills. This means there is a vast pool of knowledge that can be tapped into to help ensure everyone makes the most of every opportunity.

Togetherness

But, the really beauty of a community and the reason it takes a village to raise a child is because there is a feeling of togetherness. Whatever life throws your way, the community can help you handle it and ensure your child appreciates the importance of sharing with others.

This sense of community is what drives many people to become better versions of themselves. The same will apply to your child. Although, the fact that everyone knows them and they can be held accountable for their actions across the community does help!
