As a stylist it is always refreshing to come across a new brand! and one that stands out from the rest and Bermuda is just that! the explosive colours of their accessories it is incredibly hard to blend in with the rest. This label is for the savvy girl the IT girl the adventurous girl – the girl who likes accessorize and isn’t afraid to make a statement!

I caught up with Patrice the creative genius behind the label!

What inspired your move into fashion?

I have always been interested in fashion. When I was a teenager I attended sewing classes and then as a young adult I enrolled in a BA course studying fashion design. In my working adult life I spent over 12 years publishing a fashion and lifestyle magazine but I decided I needed to change career paths and I ended up enrolling in London College of Fashion’s Handbag Design degree program.

Instantaneously, I fell in love with leather material. It was the leather that inspired me to created accessories. I haven’t looked back since then.

What is the ethos behind Bermuda?

The design ethos of the Bermuda Born label is simple. To make high quality, timeless products, and to make them incredibly well.

Who are your fashion icons?

I have never followed any one particular “it” girl or had a celebrity icon. However, growing up with my mom, she would have been my first icon. She wasn’t a huge ‘fashion person’ but she had a classic, feminine way about her which I admired.

When she went to work as a secretary, she used to wear bright red lipstick and heels to work every day. Her hair was always worn long and with loose luscious curls and her brows were perfection.

On the weekends, she transformed into a competitive golfer and so you’d usually find her in full golf attire. That sportswear translated into her casual look when she wasn’t on the golf course so I think that’s how I’ve come to fuse a sporty yet feminine look into my own style.

Describe your perfect day and night looks

I dress according to how I feel and the kind of day or night event it will be. If I go out shopping on the weekend, I would mix sportswear with a pair of jeans and colourful trainers or stylish flats.

I like to feel relaxed but still look modern and pulled together. I’ll always have my classic leather Bermuda Born Warwick tote with me as it is versatile and can hold everything.

If I have a night out I prefer to wear a short black dress or a dress that is tailored. The look I usually go for can be described as feminine and romantic. I’ll finish it off with statement earrings, a pair of heels and a clutch purse.

Who are your customers?

The kind of person that buys a Bermuda Born handbag is interested in function and style.

The women who carry Bermuda Born handbags are confident, they are entrepreneurs to professionals, and they are trailblazers who know what they want.

They need a product that can fit into their busy lifestyle all while making a statement.

What are your handbag essentials?

My handbag essentials: I have my Bermuda Born Warwick Tote bag that I wear almost everyday to work. I always keep clutch purses for nights out or if I need to make a quick run to the grocery shop. I have very simple leather clutches to very elegant ones.

I also keep the cross body bag that I like to wear when I don’t need to carry my large tote. I wear the Bermuda Born Paget purse which is a classic style lady bag with short handles that I’d wear to a wedding or fancy dress event.

Who would you love to wear your pieces?

I would love for these well-known women to represent Bermuda Born. They are Michelle Obama, Catherine Zeta Jones (who lives in Bermuda periodically), Beyonce, Gabrielle Union, Alicia Keyes, Meagan Good and Adele. These women all represent strength, success and class.

What is your perfect holiday destination?

My perfect holiday destination. I like places like Jamaica for the culture and food, adventurous road trips through Portugal, skiing the Alps in Spring, music festivals in the USA, and of course my favorite would be on the pink sandy beaches of Bermuda or boating around the island with a rum punch in hand!

We love your use of color – what new colours can we expect ?

I wish to add more vibrant colors to the brand such as greens, purples, deep oranges, grey-blue, yellows.

Where do you see yourself and Bermuda in 5 years?

In 5 years, I’d like to have a full range of men’s leather goods and to have a separate sportswear-inspired line of bags for both men and women.

Thank you! We can’t wait to see more from you!

It is cold, we are still being hard on ourselves trying to stick to those 2018 resolutions but as the rain falls and the cold days feel like they aren’t going anywhere – and all we are longing for as some sweet treats to divulge in whilst convincing ourselves ‘we can be good again tomorrow’ – And then we are introduced to Evie Waxman and her amazing Raw Bake Station – a reason to be bad but actually it’s all good! Sweet treats that consist of raw ingredients that taste like sin but are actually heaven on earth.

Evie, tell us how the Raw Bake Station was born?

I was travelling around Australia and I attended a workshop where we were shown how to make amazing raw food and how to make it incredibly tasty and I realised that we didn’t have anything similar back in the UK – And I fell in love with the concept of raw food! So I came home and took over my mums kitchen and experimenting my first product was a raw snickers type mint slice ‘Snutters’.

Through travelling I came across important ingredients such as ‘matcha’ It was important for me to combine my sweet tooth and being 100% healthy! and that’s how I came to give life to the ‘Raw Bake Station’ through love determination and experiences.

What is a Raw Bake Station must try

So we pride ourselves on being indulgent, extremely tasty however being incredibly low on sugar and someone who hasn’t tried raw food I would suggest the Salted Caramel Truffles or how could you resist our chocolate brownie!

What challenges have you faced being a new entrepreneur?

The business side didn’t come naturally, it was me stepping outside of my comfort zone – I am a very spontaneous person and live in the moment and now I had built this house with no foundations. So it was important for me to change my way of thinking and as much as all the numbers were scary, my hobby had become a business. And in order for it to work it required determination, effective time management and insert all my energy into something I love doing. I am naturally a creative person and for me to be creative at work by creating amazing treats is incredibly rewarding.

Who inspires you?

Family, my Dad – whose support has been monumental. I am also incredibly inspired by Olivia’s Kitchen and how she built her brand from nothing and I find her incredibly motivating

We already know you love to travel, what is your dream destination and why?

It is a dream of mine to effectively travel and work. One day I don’t want to do my own production therfore I can travel the world seeking amazing recipes and exploring food. South America and India are on the top of my list – I would love to explore the diversity the culture whilst still working!

Three things you cannot live without?

Oh! this is a tough one. Chewing gum! I’m addicted!! sugar free of course! My dog! Roller-skates or a hula hoop to keep entertained! and a journal! ok that’s 4!

Describe your style

A suit doesn’t represent a business woman and that is a fact! I always express myself with my fashion! I am a sucker for coats a statement coat over a simple outfit always makes look!

I do love comfort especially with my eventful days! so coloured leggings are a good one! teamed with my go to shoes which are my docs. As a woman you should be successful and passionate in your business with whatever you are wearing!

Describe your average day

Get up at 5:40am every day and straight to the gym and that leaves me incredibly energetic. I am in my kitchen space early! constantly making sales. Engaging on social media, being inspired by girls supporting girls! and blogging. Every day is different I have so many different tasks that I need to achieve but this is maintained with my effective time management structure.

How do you deal with a bad day?

A raw baked treat! ha! Yoga and writing in a journal reminding myself where I started and how far I have come! my why goals personally bring me back to my happy zone.

You know when you meet someone who is going to go far, a woman with so much power and energy and a passion that beams out of her. Evie is a force, with dreams of her own utensil line and e books which are just a few things she mentions for the future of her brand. The dream of changing peoples thought patterns and eating habits by introducing the Raw Bake Station workshops is where she plans to go next – we can’t help but feel that The Raw Bake Station will be a household name – and these wonderful sweet treats will be on everyone’s lips.

Here at HoC we recommend the lemon love slice. We promise you its heaven. Nothing but perfect heaven.

Here at House of Coco we have always been about innovation and have always loved those that are forward thinking! we appreciate the girl that does it for herself but we also have so much respect for the guys who kill it! and when I met Mike from Wilde Connect that is exactly what I thought – his idea was innovative and he was so forward thinking! We love travel at House of Coco and his business definitely would appeal to those fast savvy fashion types who are always country hopping taking our office with us. Majority of us can’t live without our phones – our lives are practically on them – so when someone comes along with an idea that would make life easier – we welcome it with open arms! I caught up with Michael Wilde…

Tell us about you and what your brand is

Michael Wilde, entrepreneur & founder of Wilde Connect. A phone network which lets you take your work phone with you around the world. And of course, an aspiring Digital Nomad.

What is your average day like?

Exciting, I don’t know where I’m going to be working that day which is why I love my job so much. All my job requires is an internet connection and me, so I can be working from an office in Oxford or a beach in Bali. My business helps with others to become digital nomads. Download an app & connect your local work number and make and receive calls from that number from wherever you are in the world. From my experience, people do business with people they feel comfortable with. What makes people uncomfortable is getting a call from a Russian number when you’re in an office in London. You immediately think ‘Who is this?!’ We supply local numbers to any device so you can call and receive calls from your local UK number, wherever you are.

Favourite travel destination

It has to be Iceland! What a place, everything about it took my breath away. The scenery, the food, the people, the nightlife, everything was just amazing. 100% will go back.

Who inspires you and who do you aspire to be like?

My family. They’re always pushing me to better myself – Continuous Improvement – If you’re not improving you’re going backwards. I’ve just started acting classes with this in mind.

3 things you cant live without

My laptop, my family, and my snowboard.

Who is the key person Wilde Connect is aimed for?

Someone who doesn’t want to be behind a desk for the rest of their working life. My ideal customer is anyone who wants to travel the globe and make money while they’re at it. We give you the means to communicate with companies back home like you’re sat across the road, making it easier to do business and secure deals.

You’re in your early days of your brand – how do you deal with those bad days when you just want to give up

I work off the mantra; The more you put in, the more you get out. Even on the hard days when I want to stay in bed and watch Netflix, that saying haunts me to put in that extra couple of hours work, even when I don’t want to.

What are you currently listening to?

I’ve recently got into Billy Joel again, I love playing the Piano so his music really resonates with me and I love a good ballad.

What motivates you to strive to be successful

The feeling that unsuccessful people are so because they haven’t put the work in. It’s up to you and you alone to make it, no excuses. It’s a cut-throat way of looking at the world but I believe that the more you put in, the more you get out, in every sense. From relationships with loved ones to clients across the globe.

Thank you Mike we look forward to hearing more about you and watching you grow! want to know more check his website below!

Channeling the ‘Superstar’ Edie Sedgwick we pay homage to the ultimate ‘IT’ girl famed for her friendship with artist Andy Warhol.

The tragic artist had a short life – and no one could predict what we could have expected from her – but what we do know is that she has impeccable style.
