Amidst the chaos in the world right now, many things are being forgotten about (its Mothers Day this Sunday, you’re welcome for the reminder) but beauty lovers may be aware that today (March 21st) is National Fragrance Day.
Which in the grand scheme of things may not seem important, as most of our worlds have been turned upside down, yet fragrance can actually help you feel better whether you’re WFH, self isolating or quarantined.
We are seeing an increasing amount of #SelfCare posts on social media to support both mental and physical health during this strange and challenging time. From home-workouts, skincare routines, healthy recipes and ‘how to’s on how to keep motivated; all of these things help give us a little dose of normality and positivity.
It’s all about ‘Making the most’ of a global pandemic which is a good idea but in retrospect it also has us applying unnecessary pressure to ourselves in already tenuous times.
Going back to the basics is good for both our mental and physical health, as we won’t feel the need to carry the weight of the world on our shoulders.
All of our senses play a huge part in our lives and its important we don’t go into a sensory overload, meaning we need to treat each sense with care. With that said our sense of smell is often overlooked and its during times of anxiety and stress that this primitive sense is actually heightened. We all know that fragrance doesn’t only make us smell good but it has the ability to make us feel good too. So without wasting time, invest in your favourite perfume at Rosa Salas Perfumes. You will get a huge range of perfumes made with the best raw materials and fragrance oils available.
Fragrance whether in perfume, candles, diffusers essential oils or cooking products can affect the memories in our brain and have the ability to elicit a range of emotions. Fragrance is how brands entice us into stores, is why aromatherapy is a holistic treatment, is why we are drawn to certain people and can generally affect our judgement and decisions; this is why we should consider how the scent of our homes and ourselves can affect us during this global crisis.
Orange, jasmine, geranium, sandalwood, lavander, lemon, mandarin, grapefruit, mint, vanilla, cinnamon and yang yang are all ingredients that can help boost your mood.

Why should your next trip be to Oman? We’ll tell you why. Our girl Vanessa had the pleasure to visit the Arabian peninsula last week and she hasn’t shut up about it since.

Rich in cultural history with a unique and exotic vibe, Oman is a place everyone must visit at some point in their life; mainly known for being a major oil exporter yet the country has so much more to offer. It’s history is perfect for history lovers; once under Portuguese rule with old ports, defences and a jail, which there is now no need for due its non-existent crime rate.

It’s one of the safest regions in the Middle East, has four UNESCO world heritage sites and it’s buildings are awash with pastels; no dark colours or skyscrapers here, not even in Muscat, making it simply picturesque.

As a country it is super stable and ruled by a monarchy; Sultan Qaboos bin Said al-Said attended university in the UK and made many changes to the country, modernising it and its culture. He recently passed and has been succeeded by his cousin, Haitham bin Tariq Al Said. So over the next few years it will be interesting to see what the new Sultan brings to Oman.

Omani’s are vibrant, friendly and beyond polite and the country is immersed in the culture of Islam, so throwing yourself into the culture is necessary. A visit to the Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque is a highlight, with the largest carpet in the world and a 1,120 lightbulb Swarovski chandelier, it is a grounding experience; just remember to dress appropriately and respectfully. Venturing into the city to discover old Muscat, new Muscat and their ports allows you to appreciate what the country has to offer. Getting lost in the Souks is a must and even in this environment the Omani stall owners are super polite, with an array of perfume oils, trinkets, clothing and local food, it’s the perfect place to absorb the dynamic atmosphere.

Dates, obviously play a huge part in Oman and we definitely recommend trying a variety, yet they aren’t the only sweet treat in the nation. Halwa, is a sticky gelatinous dish made from brown sugar, honey, eggs and various spices, that is seriously worth indulging in.

The rest of Omani cuisine revolves around meat, spices, bread and rice. Majoboos is meal worth trying it’s rice cooked with saffron and served with a spicy meat of your choice. Mushalat is also a good option, it’s a soft flat bread stuffed with honey, meat, spinach or cheese and of course there is Shwarma.

Due to it’s ports and coast Oman is renowned for it’s seafood and if you’re a fan. Mashuai is the dish for you; roasted kingfish and savoury lemon rice. Some places also allow you to experience the traditional Oman Shuwa which is a celebratory dish of roasted lamb and rice, normally reserved for special occasions.

Oman’s landscape is breathtaking; mountains whose rock formations vary from one to the next, vast deserts with scatterings of trees and shrubs to the whitewashed buildings of the city. There is always something to look at and explore.

To get the best of Oman, you need to know where to stay… Sahab Resort and Spa is a boutique hotel in Jabal Al Akhdar, built on the canyon edge of Al Hajar Mountain range. The resort sits at 2000m above sea level so temperatures can get a little chilly but the views easily make up for that. So whether you want a little pamper or adventure this is the perfect location. Spa treatments and sunbathing vs hiking and abseiling; the choice is yours.

Mountainous landscape with breathtaking views checked off, so the next choice is of course the desert. Dunes by Al Nahda is a tented hotel in the South Batinah region, located in the heart of the desert you are surrounded by the sands of the Wadi Al Abyad. The resort is spread out over 17 acres and has 50 individual tents, an incredible restaurant, the best hotel reception you will ever encounter, an open air spa, an incredible restaurant, a bar that can conjure up any cocktail and of course a resident camel.

All in all, Oman is a secret treasure that isn’t going to be a secret for much longer.

What makes a Boss Babe? A successful woman who’s vision and ambition allow her to be the creator of her own life. A woman who brings something unique to the world becoming an inspiration as she does so; Shalini, is just that. Bringing modern classics through haute perfumery to men and women across the globe with Boss Babe Shalini Parfum.

‘I believe fragrance is like art and has no gender. Men and women can desire the same parfum and yet experience it differently because of the natural oils interacting with their individual pheromones.’

The Journey of Shalini, Creator of a Global Luxury Fragrance Brand

The brand is currently stocked at luxury retailers such as Harrods and has been; listed by Forbes magazine among the top ten most luxurious fragrances in the world, had a fragrance as a finalist for the Fragrance Foundation Awards in 2019 and has fragrances nominated for the Fragrance Foundation Awards 2020.

So, how does one become the creator of a global haute Parfum brand? Originally studying maths, Shalini went into architecture, which is where her love for colour, texture and beauty led her to the fashion industry, Haute Couture to be specific.

‘I loved creating in the world of Haute Couture; a world of luxurious fabrics and time honoured craftsmanship with a reverence for design.’

Shalini’s Commitment to Luxury in Every Scent and Presentation

Following her Haute Couture roots, Shalini ensures that only the finest and purest of oils and natural essences are used within her fragrances; the fragrances are made in France and each one is hand-poured.

Beautifully presented in Lalique crystal flacons and glass bottles, the fragrances are accompanied with luxurious and hand-crafted packaging. Black boxes with the brand’s signature yellow ribbon and gold seal, with each perfume’s name, handwritten in gold ink.

The Artistry of Shalini and Maurice’s Fragrance Collaboration

‘Our customers come from very diverse worlds – the art world, the editorial world, perfumistas, globe trotters, heads of industry and members of Royal families. They respond to our parfums at a soul level.’

Collaborating with Master Perfumer, Maurice Roucel, Shalini created her signature fragrance; together they created a perfume composed of tuberose, tiare and neroli, musk and sandalwood. The two have a deep understanding of what will be created which is shown in the synergy of the fragrances and the inspiration behind them.

‘I feel that fragrance is what a person wears closest to their skin. It enters the body through the pores and affects the soul most subtly. ‘

Shalini and Maurice’s collaboration will continue until there is a complete collection of 6 fragrances, the fifth of which, is set to launch this year; each one as complex and unique as Shalini’s signature perfume.

When creating a fragrance, Shalini draws inspiration from her own life. Fond childhood memories, her first love, the Mediterranean and Dubai, Shalini uses these memories to create a truly meaningful scent to share these moments with the world. Yet she compares creating fragrances to that of composing a poem, allowing the client to interpret what they will from each parfum. So the wearer can create their own memories with the fragrance, essentially allowing her own experiences to be extended with those who purchase from her collection.

‘We all have moments of life, our experiences, dreams and wishes that we carry within our soul. One day when you are creating, they present themselves. My fragrances are part of what I bring to the world – my gift of creation, a part of my soul that I share, in the hope that it brings joy and pleasure to people.’

It’s that strange time of year in between Christmas and NYE where you sit on the sofa by the fire, rustling through the last of the nice Quality Street, whilst the rain pours down outside and has you wishing you were somewhere sunny instead.

Which can only mean one thing, 2020 is looming and so are the January blues. January is the time of year when most spontaneous trips are booked, yet it’s also the time of year where clothing isn’t exactly tailored to a sunshine getaway. Buying a nice bikini can be near impossible; that’s were Aquarii comes to save you.

Founded by Anise Mills, this Spanish brand collates luxury, affordable and sustainable swimwear into one. Anise created the first collection from an inspirational trip to Barcelona, the textile capital of Spain. Each limited collection offers mix and match swimwear available all year round. #TeamCoco were lucky enough to speak to Anise about Aquarii to both understand the brands unique points and have a sneak peak of what 2020 has in store.

Where did the idea for Aquarii come from?

I remember sitting in a restaurant 2 years ago with a girlfriend saying “right, I would love to have a swimwear line” She said “do it”…so I did! Aquarii was born out of this place…creating luxe affordable swimwear (I’m obsessed with fashion and style) whilst forging out the next chapter of my life.

What is the ethos of Aquarii?

At the heart of Aquarii is the provenance of where each piece is made – it matters. Chic silhouettes that capture the very essence of the Mediterranean, available all year long. All swimwear is available to buy in separates or as a set.

How did you start building the brand?

Originally I was going to buy a Spanish brand but this fell through and then organically, through introductions and being in the right place at the right time, I met so many kind people that got behind my enthusiasm and helped my dream become a reality.

Where is Aquarii made?

Aquarii is all about the provenance of where each piece is made. The factory is on the outskirts of Madrid and is a family owned business. They used to produce lingerie many years ago and this knowledge and experience has been invaluable when putting together my designs as they know structurally what needs to go into each piece to ensure the fit is just right. It is an artisan trade that unfortunately is dying out.

Where are your designs sourced?

The fabric comes from Barcelona (textile capital of Spain) and again this is important to me as it’s part of Aquarii’s DNA. Really making sure we are sourcing fabric from a company that takes sustainable fashion seriously. The next collection will be made completely from sustainable fabric. We already use eco friendly packaging from a company called noissue. We/I am in no terms perfect when it comes to thinking of world issues but I am trying to do my bit for sure.

Who is the Aquarii woman?

Someone that takes pride in her appearance and is interested in living a healthy lifestyle in terms of diet and fitness. That doesn’t mean she needs to be someone that spends ages in the gym but a woman that’s aware and has a desire to be as heathy as she can be, given her lifestyle choices. It’s a myth that you have to be skinny to wear a minimal bikini – it’s more about body shape, fit and cut and balance!

What do you have planned for 2020?

I’m so excited for next year. We have the new collection launching end of February. There is so much to be grateful for and so much to look forward to in 2020. I have some cool pop-up shops planned for next year – Alicante, Ibiza, and looking for more. We are currently stocked in Sunstyle UK in Surrey and I will look for more places for next year too. St Lucia Bay, an online brand that are going to be selling a few niche brands, are launching us on their website in February.

Oh I nearly forgot…with the new collection I’m designing a small girls range from 3-10 in the same fabric as the women’s.

Christmas, whether we want to admit it or not, is fast approaching. Decorations are going up, plans are frantically being made, festive attire is being purchased and most of all Christmas lists are being written.

For #TeamCoco Chantecaille’s latest collection is on our list. Featuring limited edition products, bringing back discontented products, ensuring radiance is your key asset this Christmas and all gorgeously packaged. Gold compacts, with a rose gold inlet accompanies with a gold flake pattern in a rose gold pouch that is embossed with a C, for Chantecaille of course.

Not only do the below products make a luxurious Christmas gift but they are also gifts with a conscience, which is something we will all be aware of when purchasing presents for our loved ones this year. If you haven’t heard of Chantecaille before, their belief in the healing powers of flowers and plants, helps them build formulas on pure ingredients and smart science. They also give back to charities that protect wild species. Not only that but their products are cruelty-free, palm oil free and are vegan.

First up in the collection is Éclat Doux, a limited edition powder-balm that blurs, perfects and illuminates the skin. It mattifies whilst adding that subtle glow we all seek in the winter months.

If you’re going to have a powder, you need the brush to match. The Buff and Blur Brush is uniquely shaped, with an oversize top and flat surface, product can be buffed on for a blurring effect. It’s super soft bristles are of course vegan and are designed to grab the precise amount of product to give you a natural look.

Speaking of natural, up next in the collection is Éclat Brillant, a radiant highlighter that offers a dimensional yet subtle golden shimmer. A velvety, cream and lightweight texture allows this powder to sweep across the face for a build-able glow. Perfectly round particles give a blurring effect and diffuse imperfections, enhanced by a blend of spherical powders & polymers for a soft-focus look.

What collection or Christmas would be complete without a lipstick. Lip Cristal gives lips a velvety sparkle. A shimmer coated formula washes lips with a deep colour and metallic finish. Pearl pigments mean it feels weightless and there is no grit or irritation, just pure build-able colour that is long-lasting and leaves lips perfectly glossed. Available in ‘Rose Quartz’, ‘Carnelian Vibrant’ and ‘Cool’.

Finally is a limited edition bottle of the brands iconic Pure Roswater. The rose-adorns packaging pays homage to the brands muse; the rose. Thanks to the use of the entire Rose de Mai plant, this product is packed full of Vitamin C and anti-ageing benefits; instantly reviving and refreshing the skin. It reduces puffiness, balances the skins Ph, tones, soothes and brightens the skin, the rosewater’s, antiseptic properties also help reduce acne and inflammation.

It can be added to a face mask, remove your make up or set your make up. There are a number of other uses for this product too, such as using as a pillow spray to help you relax, use as a substitute for a perfume, to tame flyaway hairs and even to combat static.

Voila! There you have it, we’re sure there is something in this collection for everyone and you can find the collection along with all of Chantecaille’s other products on their website or in stores across the globe, just use their search tool to find the closest stockist to you and happy gifting (whether that be for you or a loved one).

It’s officially November, defrosting your windscreen in the morning is now a thing again, Christmas decorations are in stores and thanks to daylight saving time, it’s getting darker earlier. So if you’re already dreaming of sunshine and are looking to book your first trip of 2020, we have a serious contender for you; The Residence at TUI SENSATORI Barut Fethiye.

After celebrating their 10th anniversary last year TUI have majorly been upping their game. The idea of a package holiday can send shivers down someone’s spine, thoughts of children running amuck, struggling to get a sun lounger and the same food every day. Yet with TUI this is a huge misconception and their SENSATORI resorts are leading the industry with a new concept.

TUI’s SENSATORI resorts are design-led and are created to ignite your senses, for sight, the hotels design and interiors are visually aesthetic, for taste, the array of cuisines are sure to please each palette, for smell, TUI has signature scents which each time you smell it, you are reminded of holiday; all in all, giving you and your senses an experience that you will want to return to.

Their newest SENSATORI resort is situated in Fethiye and is redefining what we know as a package holiday, proving it can be just as much, if not more luxurious than other options. Around a 45 minute drive from Dalaman airport, this is an adults-only retreat with a new level of luxury and TUI’s Only 5T Plus resort. As an ultra all inclusive resort, there are an array of restaurants and bars to choose from, ranging from gourmet Michelin inspired dining fine dining to informal beachside BBQ.

The hotel has 152 rooms over 3 floors, whether you choose a penthouse, lake house (with butler service) and swim-up suites, privacy is ensured and all rooms come with added luxuries such as a Nespresso machine, a whirlpool bath, in room bar, and pillow menu. The contents of the mini bar and mini fridge are all yours and will be restocked each day, there is also a bar with full sized spirits and wines that are all included and when bottles are running low, (which is a surprisingly frequent occurrence, well, you’re on holiday after all) they will simply be replaced.

The resort is home to an incredible spa, a forest area in which you can partake in yoga or Gong bathing, a private beach with butler-serviced cabana’s, an expansive swimming pool with swim-up bar, just to name a few things. If you want more lively evenings then a little stroll over to the sister hotel has evening entertainment and comedy nights.

If you manage to pry yourself from the luxury of the resort then Fethiye town is a wonderful place to explore, with Turkey’s infamous markets taking place each Tuesday in the town, you can literally shop until your drop. There are traditional turkish baths, stalls and restaurants that are definitely worthwhile experiencing, there are also yachts, boats and jet skis to hire if you wish to explore by sea.

Although the resort closed for the season yesterday, it reopens on the 1st May and after being fully booked for most of its opening in 2019, it is booking up fast so we’d recommend checking availability asap. If we haven’t convinced you that The Residence should be your summer 2020 destination, we’ll be covering our stay here in further detail to showcase what the resort and Fethiye as a destination has to offer in one of our upcoming print issues, so keep an eye out!

So this article is, shall we say, a little off-piste for #TeamCoco yet we feel it’s most definitely worth publishing. It doesn’t contain enviable travel snaps or lust-worthy beauty products or even inspirational entrepreneurs. It does however contain a little glimpse into my recent discovery and some crucial info and advice from leading UK doctors.

With that said, this is definitely worth a read for those who suffer from endometriosis, those who think they may be and even those who know someone with the condition.

So, let’s go. After 11 years of suffering badly at the time of the month (being sick, passing out, countless days off school, university and work) and with a history of endometriosis in the family, my mum was convinced I had it; me, not so much. Despite having all the symptoms listed, my experiences were so different to those in my family, I was pretty much adamant, I did not have endometriosis, I thought I just suffered badly at that time of the month. In December last year my mum finally convinced me to see our local GP and ask for a referral to a specialist. Within no time I was in the Gynaecology department being informed that the most effective option is a laparoscopy (key-hole surgery) to see if I did have endometriosis and if I did, they would remove it.

Eight months later and I’m being sedated by pills to calm me down enough to just have an injection in my tummy to thin out my blood, I’m having the child’s numbing cream applied to my hands for cannulas and I’m pretty much ready to run out of the hospital, (I’m a wimp FYI) after all why was I putting myself through this if I knew I didn’t have endometriosis.

After coming around in the recovery room after 2 and a half hours in surgery, being sick a lot and speaking to my surgeon, I am very glad I went through with it. It turns out I do have endometriosis, mainly on my left pelvic wall, side of my womb and near my bowel, I also had many adhesions in these areas too.

Luckily for me, none within my uterus or fallopian tubes, meaning my chances of getting pregnant may be hard but not as hard as the could be. The present endometriosis and adhesions were removed and I am now recovering.

So, why am I telling you all this, it’s quite personal right? It’s about something intimate isn’t it? Well the reason I’m talking about this so openly is that 1 in 10 women in the UK have endometriosis, that’s around 10% of women worldwide, yet the topic is still quite taboo, people usually haven’t heard of it and more often than not, people just dismiss it. Endometriosis can be debilitating, it can leave you infertile or with major problems when trying to conceive, it can leave you feeling like a hypochondriac when what you’re experiencing is severe pain that you are just expected to get on with.

So, in the hope’s of helping someone else with the condition, I have spoken to some medical professionals about when to seek help, how to ‘control’ symptoms, contraception options and the treatment available.

Let’s begin with speaking to Dr Venkat from the Harley Street Fertility Clinic to understand what endometriosis is and how it can affect fertility.

What is endometriosis?

Endometriosis is where pieces of tissue, similar to those found in the inner lining of the womb, grow outside of the womb in the bowel, bladder, ovaries fallopian tubes or in the lining of the abdomen. This causes symptoms including painful, heavy or irregular periods as well as pain in the lower abdomen, pelvis or lower back at any point throughout the cycle but especially during ovulation and can affect mental well-being too. It can also cause pain during, or after sex and can lead to difficulty in getting pregnant which is why it is linked to infertility.

How can having endometriosis affect fertility?

Endometriosis can reduce the egg number in the ovaries, if it is present in the ovaries. This leads to a low AMH and los ovarian reserve. If you have endometriosis and are trying to get pregnant without success, it is important to speak to your doctor about being referred to a gynaecologist or a fertility specialist, especially if you’ve been trying for over six months and are over 35.

What options are available to endo suffers to help with fertility?

There are surgical treatments to remove tissue that can help improve symptoms and give you a better chance of not only conceiving, but having better health. Removed tissue can grow back so surgery isn’t a guaranteed fix, but it can help improve the situation and the chances of having a baby. Even if you are not trying to get pregnant, you should check your ovarian reserve. If it is borderline or low, you should consider freezing your eggs. Again, speak to your GP as a first port of call and consider seeing a fertility specialist so you know what your options are – it’s always best to know what is happening with your body and fertility, especially if time is of the essence.

Next up is Dr Larisa Corda is an Obstetrician and Gynaecologist and is one of the UK’s leading Fertility experts. (www.drlarisacorda.com) with who we discuss diagnosis and contraception options.

For women who think they may be suffering from endometriosis, what steps would you recommend for them to take?

I would always advise anyone who is suffering from painful or heavy menstruation, pain during sex or unexplained abdominal aches, changes in bowel habit or urination, to go and see their GP in the first instance. Endometriosis can often take a long time to diagnose, even up to 10 years, so presenting early is vital. Not everyone will need an operation to diagnose the condition, but sometimes other causes need to be ruled out first. There can also be some cross over in symptoms. For example, IBS can often co exist with endometriosis.

Once endometriosis has been diagnosed through a laparoscopy, how do you know how severe it is?

The first thing to say is that not everyone needs an operation to diagnose endometriosis. Sometimes we can suspect it through symptoms, an examination and an ultrasound scan. If a laparoscopy is done, the surgeon will stage the endometriosis according to its size, depth and location, and whether it’s affecting any other organs in your pelvis, like your bladder or bowel.

Through surgery, endometriosis and adhesions are often discovered, can you help clarify the difference?

Endometriosis is essentially tissue that belongs to the inside of the womb found elsewhere where it doesn’t naturally grow, such as the ovaries or fallopian tubes. In response to changing hormone levels in the menstrual cycle, this tissue will thicken then break down and bleed but because it can’t leave the body like a period, it starts to irritate the tissue around it, forming scars. These are called adhesions and can cause a problem because they can distort certain organs, cause obstruction, pain and possible problems with fertility.

Are there any contraception options would you recommend?

This really depends on several factors such as your age, personal medical history and also what you prefer to take, but a range of hormonal contraceptives, such as the Mirena coil, and progesterone injection and implant are very effective at preventing pregnancy, and also help to reduce the symptoms of endometriosis at the same time, so you get the benefits of both.

For women who suffer from endometriosis, what advice would you give them to help reduce monthly symptoms?

Endometriosis is a condition that involves inflammation, which is when the body’s defence mechanisms go into over drive, and so reducing symptoms starts off with alleviating inflammation through lifestyle measures, such as diet, exercise, stress management and reducing your exposure to toxins in any products you may be using, as well as through smoking and alcohol.

Finally, we spoke to Laura Southern, nutritional consultant at www.london-gynaecology.com about how diet can affect the symptoms of endometriosis.

Can diet affect the symptoms of endometriosis?

Yes, nutritional support can play a role in helping the endometriosis sufferer by supporting the immune system and inflammation as well as detoxification pathways. Because endometriosis is thought to be an oestrogen dominant condition, liver and digestive support through food is paramount.

So what should the diet of an endometriosis sufferer be?

High in brightly coloured, fresh vegetables to support both immunity and detoxification. Favour the green ‘brassica’ family, such as broccoli, Brussel Sprouts and kale, and add lots of deep red and purple vegetables; beetroots, purple ‘heritage’ carrots, red onions, red cabbage. Stir fries and soups can be utlitised to maximize vegetable intake. Include lots of foods rich in ‘essential fat’ for their anti-inflammatory benefit. Eat oily fish (salmon, mackerel, trout, herring, sardines) 2-3 times a week, and consume a handful of raw nuts and seeds daily. Try almonds, pumpkin seeds, pine nuts, walnuts, chia seeds and use a good quality olive oil or flax oil on salads. Additionally reduce reliance on caffeine, tobacco and alcohol which all place strain on the liver.

Does eating red meat and dairy worsen symptoms or is this a myth?

There is some evidence which shows that consuming red meat can increase risk of endometriosis, but it’s not conclusive. In some women consuming red meat can increase inflammation in the body – inflammation is what can cause pain and swelling which is a component of endometriosis. For those with a dairy intolerance, consuming dairy foods, e.g. milk and cheese, can also increase inflammation and therefore exacerbate symptoms of endometriosis.

The science is not definitive on this, however if you’re suffering, and seeking some relief, it might be worth seeing if a vegetarian, or vegan month improves symptoms. It is also thought that high levels of red meat and dairy consumption can increase oestrogen levels in the body. Including lots of fresh vegetables, pulses, beans, nuts and seeds will increase fibre. High levels of fibre can support the microbiome (good gut bacteria) to help denature old circulating oestrogen and excrete it effectively. This is important for endometriosis sufferers as endometriosis is an oestrogen dominant condition.

Situated in the southern Aegean Sea and separating the Aegean from the Libyan sea is Crete, Greece’s largest island and the fifth largest in the Mediterranean. With such varied terrain and incredible history along with glorious cuisine and weather, Crete is a place worth going to. Yet such a vast landscape means there is a lot to do and with some places being around 3/4 hours away from the capital, it’s important to plan your trip in advance. So, of course #TeamCoco have put together a list of the top 10 places that are essential to visit whilst in Crete. First up is Balos Lagoon, this is a tricky one to get to in the north west of the island but it’s so worth it; a white sand beach surrounded by turquoise waters, the scenery is breathtaking and the sunsets are an incredible way to round off your day here. Whether you wish to relax with a book, hike or snorkel, Balos beach is ideal for everyone and is Crete’s mini version of a tropical paradise. The lagoon itself can get busy and local boats and coaches can be crowded so it’s best to book privately and get there early to get the best spot and enjoy the tranquility. There is only one taverna so be sure to bring everything you may need for the day including plenty of water.

Next up is Agios Nikolaos a coastal town on the island. This town had a mix of everything, art, bustling streets combined with relaxing spots and modern Greek style. There are shops for the foodies, the fashionistas and even the hoarders. With a variety of local beaches, authentic tavernas, contemporary bars and high end restaurants you can spend hours just meandering through. There is also a marina (one of the largest in Greece with a capacity for 255 vessels) which is the perfect place to have a coffee and admire the yachts as they come and go.

Chrissi or Χρυσή means ‘golden’ which is apt considering the breathtaking gold sand beaches. Again this is a busy place so it’s best to book privately and get there early. There are a few beach tavernas, Minoan ruins and a little chapel but no shops so go prepared. There a hidden coves and a forest to explore or you can laze on the beach and snorkel in the shallow waters.

The city is submerged in history and has a huge archaeological Minoan site, the Palace of Knossos and the 16th century Koules fortress surrounding the marina. So if you’re into history or hiking or just want an incredible experience that has unrivalled views, this is one for you.

Spinalonga is located in the Gulf of Elounda in north-eastern Crete; the island has long been shrouded in history and mystery. Up until 1957 it was home to leper’s colonies, despite the cure for leprocy being discovered in the 1940’s, those who caught the disease were essentially banished from Crete and sent to live on the island after having everything taken from them, including their citizenship and never received treatment. Harrowing but informative and definitely worth seeing.

With an ever increasing concern towards our planet, more and more of us are seeking alternatives to help reduce our environmental impact. Whether that be through our plastic use, our meat and dairy intake or our every day choices. At this stage it’s up to conglomerates to really turn things around but when it comes to the individual, every little makes an impact.

One way is to opt to use and buy into brands with a conscience, beauty brands in particular are making the conscious choice to become vegan, cruelty free and adapt their packaging.

One brand that has a deep concern for the environment and endangered species is Chantecaille Beauté. Since 1997, the brand has supported causes for endangered species such as, wolves, gorillas, coral reefs, tigers, butterflies and sea turtles. Chantecaille is a luxurious brand that is committed to creating revolutionary skincare, cosmetics and fragrances, together with reaching out through their products, to shine a spot-light on global issues.

Through their collections the brand is currently supporting a variety of causes from African and Asian elephants that are facing extinction to climate change. Chantecaille’s newest collection is a limited edition range of cream blushes and lipsticks along with the return of a cult-bronzer.

The Summer 19 Lip Veil is not only good for supporting endangered Asian elephants; it is also good for your lips. Organic Baobab oil, Wild Mango butter and Argan oil combine to leave your lips with a wash of colour that feels creamy, weightless and hydrating. Available in three limited-edition shades in a magnetic-click case, this revolutionary lipstick is sure to leave your lips nourished and gleaming.

Aqua Blush is packaged in a mini pot that is ideal for travelling and the product itself is a gel formula that is more than half water, meaning your skin is left hydrated and refreshed. Although sheer the blushes are build-able to give just the right pop of colour. The formula melts onto skin and is perfect for a dewy summer glow.

A cult favourite bronzer has returned as part of the collection and it is back permanently. Available in two shades and created using modern pearl technology which yields an innovative gel-powder formula, this bronzer glides onto skin. A dusting of the bronzer leaves skin with a beautiful glow and its soft aerated texture blurs, perfects and reduces the appearance of wrinkles, with a second skin feel.

The Summer 19 collection is like all of Chantecaille’s products, cruelty free and also free of Phthalates, Sulphate Detergents, Mineral Oil, Petrolatum, Palm Oil, Synthetic Colors, Synthetic Fragrances and GMOs (the nasty stuff). Chantecaille believes in the healing powers of flowers and plants, and builds their formulas on pure ingredients and science.

The brand also has a wide variety of vegan products, including their Future Skin foundation and Rose de Mai face cream, which are two of our favourites, it’s clear Chantecaille is a brand that will be leading others in the right direction. With a huge focus on giving back to charities, let’s not forget Chantecaille’s main focus is their clients skin. Using only ingredients that produce the most impactful, visible, beautiful results.

An anti-pollution range aims to focus on the the power of stem cells and skin barrier-strengthening extracts to shield the skin from pollutants that age and damage the skin, cause reactions and inflammation. The brands Bébé range introduces a new way to care for little ones, a soothing collection which nourishes their skin and can even be used by adults with very sensitive skin. Some products are on-trend such as those with a focus on retinol, whereas others are a brand classic; their Rose de Mai collection.

Whatever collection or product you fall upon with Chantecaille, it’s sure to revolutionise how you shop for beauty, along with having a positive impact on the planet and your skin.
