Founded by sisters Monika and Emilija Peciulyte, FG atelier was created to make life easier for professional, modern women who want to look sharp and feminine at work with minimal time and effort. From innovative ‘wash and wear’ collections to simple tailoring, the Peciulyte sisters are revolutionising female tailoring around the globe. Our writer Jenna caught up with Emilija to discuss sister dynamics, taking influence from Valentino and how building a successful business is a marathon and not a sprint…

JC: So firstly, what’s it like working with your sister Monika? I have a sister, and we don’t always see eye-to-eye, so it’s interesting to know about the dynamic!

EE: Monika is the creative director of the company, and she handles all aspects of design. She works closely with our manufacturing team, managing all sourcing of materials for collections. I handle the business side of the company from marketing, sales, and growth of our business. There is an unspoken connection between us, and we create the synergy that allows us to constructively connect different points of views and build our brand. One of the biggest strength of our partnership is that we have, had, and will always have very different skill sets. That allows us to combine different expertise and achieve the best results.

JC: As #TeamCoco are always traveling, we love your ‘wash and wear’ concept as there’s no need to iron it can be slipped on straight from your suitcase! What was the main inspiration behind this collection?

EE: From day one we have been working very closely with business ladies, and we spent a lot of time and attention just listening and hearing their pains and stories from their daily life which often is extremely busy. Working women have a lot of on their plate, and we wanted to find a way to make it less complicated and stressful. After all, our mission statement is “making your mornings easier”. That’s why the concept of machine washable, iron-free dresses came very naturally for us – we just wanted to help our clients and create dresses that not only look beautiful but also have utility aspect.

JC: Can you tell us more about your history before founding FG atelier?

EE: My sister Monika was always into art, design, and aesthetics. Even when she was just a little kid, she created designs and sew her clothes. And she was extremely proud of wearing clothes made by her! I, on the other hand, was drawn by science and literature. Many years later, when I was studying Marketing and Communication in France, Monika was more and more involved in working with private clients who wanted to upgrade their business outfits. At that time I thought what to do with my life – should I stay in France or should I start my own business? And I remember very distinctly that eureka moment when I realized that we could do something together. Of course, everything was uncertain at that time, but we knew that with our knowledge, skills, and passion we could create something meaningful. That is how FG atelier was born.

JC: Alongside Monika’s designs, what other designers inspire you?

EE: Givenchy and Valentino. We love their modern elegance and timeless designs.

JC: Who would be your dream influencer/celebrity to work with?

EE: There are many inspiring women with whom we would love work! I think our best relationships were established with those women who appreciate our clothes because they feel empowered and strong to tackle their biggest and most difficult tasks in their everyday life.

JC: Do you feel it can be harder for women to look smart and professional at work than men who can throw on a suit?

EE: Absolutely! Men have very clearly defined rules on how to look professional. Women have so many options, and the rules are so blurred that sometimes getting dressed in the morning becomes quite a daunting task.

JC: Can you tell us about a recent ‘Girl Boss’ moment?

EE: I think being intentional and taking my time seriously was my biggest girl boss moment. I set well-defined goals, and they are like a north start guiding me in my daily life. When you have goals it so much easier to say no to mindless scrolling through social media or stop procrastinating.

JC: What has been the hardest part of running your own fashion business?

EE: I think the hardest thing was not to be too harsh on yourself when things do not go so smooth or so quickly as you would like. Building a business is a marathon, not a sprint and you must have stamina and perseverance to achieve your goals. Looking for quick solutions or immediate results does not help as everything in life that is meaningful takes time. That’s the fact!

JC: What’s in the pipeline for 2019?

EE:We are working a lot on customer experience, and that involves everything from customer journey on our website to how a woman feels wearing our jacket or dress. That is crucial for us because our business was founded on the idea that we have to serve our clients and provide as much value to them as we can.

Sarah Valley is the designer behind her brand of the same name. As someone who is fascinated by nature and its beauty as well as all things natural, it was no surprise that she would launch a business in the creative field.

Here, she tells us more…

When did you launch the brand and what was the reason behind it?
My brand, Sarah Valley, was launched in 2016. I have always been fascinated by nature and its beauty as well as all things natural. From a young age, I have always had the desire to create something with my own hands; something different, beautiful and truly unique. Attention to detail comes natural to me and so I often find myself drawn to complex and intricate designs found in everyday objects and materials such as clothing and bags. I believe that passion and devotion are the driving force behind the inception of innovative and unique fashion products.

What is your background?
I was born in Baghdad, Iraq in the late 1980s but was raised in the United Kingdom from an early age. It was shortly after moving to the UK that my love for fashion, art and craft really took hold and developed into a fully blown burning passion that has never extinguished! Consequently I enrolled in the University of the Arts London to develop my knowledge and scope of the Arts globally.

How many people are involved in the company and what are their roles?
I am the proud, sole proprietor of my business. From hand-crafting the products to managing the online store, I successfully micromanage all aspects of the business.

If you could start over with the business, would you do anything differently?
No, I don’t think so. I made the best of the cards that I was dealt with and I am a strong believer of fate.

What is the hardest challenge you have faced since you started the company?
As with many business trying to get off the ground, I found promoting and marketing my work in a world drowning in online businesses, particularly challenging. But hard work, perseverance and a unique brand speaks for itself and I have successfully featured in magazines such as ‘Vogue’ and ‘Brides Magazine’.

Tell us one fact about you that people wouldn’t know?
I am a keen videogamer! Some of my favourite games include Tomb Raider and Assassin’s Creed!

2019 is here, where do you plan on taking the brand?
I plan to expand my brand further, after conquering the UK market, I want to penetrate the global market and make Sarah Valley a household name.

To date, what has been the highlight since launching?
I was approached by ‘Vogue magazine’ and ‘Brides Magazine’ who showed great interest in my work. I have since displayed some of my work on their magazines, which is a real honour.

Which city do you feel most at home in, London, Paris or New York?
I would have to say London, only because it was the birthplace of my brand and business!

Three beauty products you can’t leave the house without?
That’s a tough one, but narrowing it down, it would be: lipstick, perfume and mascara!

Style means….?
To me, style is a form of expression; it is a statement of intent that can define a person through the way they present themselves.

Best thing about London to you?
It is a multicultural, diverse society and this means that we get the best of many worlds, particularly in fashion, whereby styles are shared, emulated and appropriated.

Statement shoe or statement bag?
Statement bag, definitely, because I believe a bag can tell you a lot about a person’s sense of style!

If you had to, what piece of clothing from your wardrobe would you wear everyday?
My handmade nautical cuff bracelet! I can’t leave the house without it! It really describes me as a person I feel a special attachment to it.

Favourite love song?
Here without you by Three Doors Down.

Best place for a coffee?
Starbucks!

Most memorable piece of advice given to you?
Don’t look at how others are doing, focus on your own vision.

Guilty pleasure?
Cheesecake!

If you could spend 24 hours anywhere in the world, where would it be?
Madagascar. Mainly because of its diverse geography, wildlife and culture. It’s like no other place on this planet; animals that inhabit this island country are found nowhere else in the world.

In the future, how do you plan on expanding the company?
By focussing on my strengths and investing time and money on my talents, my business will flourish. I plan to use my products’ unique factor to penetrate markets on a global scale.

You can find out more about my work, brand and business on my website which has all my social media links on it too! https://sarah-valley.com/

Let’s face it, New York never gets old. The allure of the city starts with its ‘anything can happen here’ reputation but is further enhanced by the style of New Yorkers. Their ironically chic look, bustling lifestyle, and sheer confidence is something fashion lovers around the world can admire. So how do you achieve New York style and sensibility?

We’re giving you a sneak-peek into the must-haves every New York Trendsetter has in their closet. Check out these five items to stock your own closet whether you’re a New York transplant, planning a trip to the Big Apple, or just emulating that classic Carrie Bradshaw style from the other side of the globe.

A Carry-All Bag

Whether you’re just visiting NYC or a homeowner balancing a career and social life, you need a bag that can keep up and keep you prepared for anything. A chic carry-all oversized tote lets you pack up your layers, beauty necessities, and whatever else you may need throughout the day so you’re always ready to take on the town. We love this leather tote from Baggu that comes in classic black and caramel, perfect for your refined style.

A Pair of Great Flats

Comfort is essential when it comes to commuting in New York City. The average New Yorker walks between two and five miles each day between work, home, and social life. Sure, there’s the subway too, but there really is something about taking in the sights and sounds of the city. But comfort doesn’t mean you get to sacrifice style in this city. Every New York lady needs a great pair of pointed toe flats to get them where they need to be. Another necessity when it comes to picking comfortable shoes for NYC: versatility. New Yorkers like to keep their momentum throughout the day, so having a shoe that can go from day to night is the only way to go. Rothy’s makes super comfortable and stylish flats for the urban woman; we love The Point to wear for long commutes from the Upper East Side all the way down to SoHo. This city never stops, and with a great shoe on your team, you won’t have to either.

A Classic Coat

With the exception of a quick summer, it’s always best to be prepared with a coat in NYC. As a new transplant or visitor, you can expect to experience rain, snow, and bitterly cold wind in our fine city from September and even into May evenings. New Yorkers often consider a classic rain coat and warm wool our winter coat staples. This beige textured wool coat from Karl Lagerfield is perfect for those cold winter months and is such an iconic New York look we love.

Simple Shades

New Yorkers often get a bad rap for being cold introverts – and while it is true that sometimes they crave moments of solitude, you can rest assured that nothing is meant by their aloofness. After a day among all of the hustle and bustle of the city, you may need some shades to guard yourself from the sun and your fellow urbanites in true New York style. Plus, a pair of cool sunglasses can be the touch that finalizes a great outfit and gives you the sensation of life as an NYC native. These sunglasses from Raen are a fun-but-timeless statement piece perfect for any season.

Personal Style

It’s not all about neutral tones and bustling crosswalks in New York City. There’s such a vibrant sense of individuality and personal style here, it’s inspiring to take it all in as you’re exploring the brownstone-lined streets and elegant avenues of the city. Don’t be afraid to show off your unique style with statement pieces you love. Need some inspiration? Head over to the Chelsea and Hell’s Kitchen flea markets for vintage finds and uncommon goods.

With these five New York must-haves you’ll fit right in with the city’s most chic socialites whether you’ve just moved to the city or are just drafting an NYC packing list for your weekend trip. But what’s the most important thing to remember while you’re in the Empire City? Enjoy yourself – don’t focus too much on “being” a local, just take in the magic and revel in all of the unique foods, attractions, and character we have to offer.

Unfortunately not, if you’re anything like me. Despite my best intentions, I leave my Christmas shopping to the last minute almost every year (there was one time I managed to do it all in the first week of December but this has yet to be repeated) and often end up rushing around in a blind panic come the weekend before the big day. This usually starts with me reaching for my laptop intent on ordering online before finding that most of the retailers’ last shipping dates have sailed past and coming to a devastating realisation: the shops will have to be braved.

Crowds, queues, low stock, flustered shop assistants, overheating and a dodgy panini for lunch – this is what springs to mind when I think of braving the London shops in the run up to Christmas. There is one area, though – a pocket right in the centre of town – that never seems overcrowded and has some of the best boutiques in the city. I know – it must be some kind of Christmas miracle.

If you’re looking to nail down your last lot of presents, a trip to Seven Dials should do just the trick.

Just down the road from Covent Garden and a two minute stroll from Leicester Square Station, the Seven Dials area makes up seven streets all stemming from a central roundabout. These include several independent, high street and designer boutiques that are actually enjoyable to walk around. Whatever you’re after, you’re sure to find a shop selling the perfect gift.

Things the ladies will love…

Shopping for women can be difficult if you’re going off piste (or as I like to say, “off liste”). If she loves to make a statement, head to Tatty Devine for a fun and playful piece of acrylic jewellery. Choose one of the bold and beautiful feminist Fawcett Society range or opt to have their name crafted into a personalised necklace. If you’re after something a little more understated, head to the deliciously minimalist Dinny Hall – a collection of beautiful, barely-there semi-precious jewellery designed and crafted by the eponymous designer. London-based Knomo is a one-stop-shop for accessories, where you’ll find a collection of bags and luggage that both striking and functional – each one has been designed to cater for technology (I personally love the minimalist backpacks).

For the man in your life…

Tired of buying the same old aftershave? There are plenty of unique options for men. Duke & Dexter, a British footwear designer, handcrafts luxury loafers in a variety of eclectic colour ways and designs that look super sharp under a tailored suit or jeans. For a fresh riff on the traditional sock present, hit up Happy Socks – a shop filled with joyfully creative designs that’ll put a smile on the face of even the squarest dresser. Looking for a gift that’ll pamper? Pop into Beast – an entire emporium dedicated to men’s grooming products.

After something gender neutral?

We don’t always want something that screams masculinity or femininity and, luckily for us, Seven Dials has a couple of gender neutral gems. Larsson & Jennings, home of the Swiss made classic watches we see adorning the wrist of the discerning, is just the place for picking up contemporary timepieces. Each face and strap is unisex and can be interchanged – ideal for anyone who likes to mix it up. Not sure where to start? You can’t go wrong with a Lugano Milanese in Gold.

For some fresh kicks, stop by Superga – home to the Italian plimsole. The iconic 2750 design looks fly with a pair of tailored trousers (the flatform version adds a little extra something if you want to look smart) – particularly if you make the most of the in-house artists, who’ll hand paint a design of your desire onto the canvas right in front of you.

Foodie heaven

It would be a crime to stroll the streets of Seven Dials without stopping into Neal’s Yard Dairy, where you can pick up a speciality wheel for the fromage fanatic in your life. Around 70 British and Irish cheesemakers sell their wares in this shop, so it’s also a great opportunity to support the locals. Even better, they’ll let you try before you buy (hand me that Shropshire Blue immediately). For a chocolatey treat, you can’t go wrong with Rococo Chocolates – each of which comes wrapped in a signature blue and white box. My advice? You’ll be loved forever if you turn up with a box of the salted caramel truffles.

Planning a pamper?

Your first stop should be the famous Neal’s Yard Remedies – a haven of organic health and beauty products. Whether it’s a hand balm or a massage oil, it’s almost impossible to leave there without something that smells heavenly. It’s tucked inside Neal’s Yard courtyard, too, which is an Instgrammer’s heaven. Fresh from New York you’ll find Le Labo on Monmouth Street, where expert perfumers create hand-made fragrances in what is arguably the prettiest shop in the entire city (I defy you to visit without photographing anything). You’ll get the chance to pick a perfume for your loved one that they’re unlikely to smell on anyone else. And who doesn’t love a one-of-a-kind gift at Christmas?

Back in June, House of Coco’s Beth, visited Gucci Garden and dined in the fashion-friendly restaurant on dishes created by a Michelen star chef. Here are her thoughts (p.s. if you need a drinking game, take a shot every time every time she says Gucci) …

In the Piazza della Signoria, a fascinating busy square in the heart of Florence, sits Gucci Garden; a specially designed space where food and fashion collide to celebrate all things Gucci, featuring a store, a multi-room museum and, a recent addition, the Gucci Restaurant.

Formally known as the Gucci Osteria de Massimo Bottura, the 50-seat restaurant is a collaboration between Gucci’s Creative Director Alessandro Michele and respected Italian chef Massimo Bottura.

Three Michelin star chef Bottura, the head honcho at the esteemed Osteria Francescana in Modena (named The World’s Best Restaurant this year), is the mastermind behind the menu – a small, but carefully crafted, collection of delicious dishes oozing with flavour and Italian ingredients.

After strolling through the store, a.k.a Gucci heaven, filled with exclusive Gucci Garden items and everything from leather goods to cushions I was seated in the small restaurant. I chose to sit inside, to reap the benefits of the air-con and to escape the crowds of Florence in June, but there is also a flower-filled outdoor seating area.

With lime green walls and velvet seats, the restaurant is completely high fashion – even your waiter’s uniform will make you jealous, as they serve you in black Gucci loafers. Although it was beautifully decorated, I have to say I was hoping for some more Gucci. Just a little a bit of branding, maybe a double G monogrammed onto the crockery or something. Saying that, the floral crockery was still delightful (and available in the shop if you fancy spending £100 on a plate).

The menu isn’t large, but does offer plenty of choice and all at reasonable prices for food created by Bottura. You can try pick just one of the tasty options or, to get the full experience, try the tasting menu like myself. This seven-course food journey is a great way to sample many dishes and brings you a mix of flavours and foods, including an indulgent tortellini that Bottura is famous for and finishes with not just one, but two, decadent desserts.

Starting with a pink watermelon juice to cleanse the palate the menu follows with marinated Bonito fish served with a corn toast, then a quinoa Summer Salad topped with show-stopping vegetable crisps. Both dishes were delicious and light and a perfect introduction to the following courses.

The other mains, a steamed bun with tender pork belly and lingua (beef tongue), both deserve their place in the menu but it really is all about the next bowl of food.

After just one mouthful of the ‘Tortellini with Parmigiano Reggiano cream’ you’ll know why it’s Bottura’s signature dish. The smooth cheesy sauce is the perfect pairing for the tiny hand-folded pasta parcels. It’s a small portion, but given the richness, and the fact it is the middle in the line-up of seven dishes, it’s just right.

The deconstructed cheesecake was a highlight for me. Firstly it’s a tiny work of art, secondly the sour-but-sweet cherry flavour is unique and mouth-wateringly good – a dessert I never wanted to end. Lucky for me, it was followed by another sweet treat. The ‘Charley Marley’, a chocolate gelato and hazelnut dessert named after Bottura’s son, is a delight to finish your meal with.

After lunch, I visited the upstairs museum. A series of themed rooms tell you the Gucci story, focusing on Guccification and the rising popularity of Gucci’s signature accessories, each room filled with interesting and original dresses, bags and other items.

As a lover of the two f’s, fashion and food, I found the whole Gucci Garden experience incredibly enjoyable. The Garden is a lovely place to escape the hustle and bustle of Florence for a few hours and to try food dreamed up by Bottura without the high price tag of his own restaurant. I’ve been dreaming about that cheesecake ever since…

December is such an exciting time of year for festivities, dining out, clubbing with the girls, and generally having an entire month of partying, so we are obviously going to include an appointment to have our nails manicured, possibly a little sparkly pedicure too, a healthy spray tan, and we may even treat ourselves to a relaxing massage before the mayhem seriously begins.

With all this in mind #TeamCoco were thrilled to be invited to experience the brand new Q61 Salon which opened just a month ago in the gorgeous North Yorkshire town of Harrogate.

We sent one of our beauty gurus along to enjoy, relax and review Q61 salon treatments, and marvel in the extensive colour runway.

This is without doubt the biggest salon we have ever been inside; the layout is vast, open and very relaxed. The music has a chilled house vibe, which makes the salon feel like an exclusive club for private members.

The colour runway is a serious collection of O.P.I polishes of every colour imaginable, and they even have a seasonal collection filled with sparkle and gold hues, and a stunning selection of glitters. This is an absolute dream for Christmas!

We opted for a luxury pedicure, which took place on the raised seating on the ground floor at the salon, with a personal mini-sofa style seat, deep filled foot spa, and plenty of delicious O.P.I softening, soothing and moisturising products for the feet.

There is a wall of seriously high-end hard backed fashion books to read, so of course we delved straight into the Louis Vuitton catwalk fashion book.

The luxury pedicure took around an hour from start to finish and included a foot massage, callous removal, soak, and warm boots for softening. It ended with a gorgeous polish from the colour runway opposite.

We ventured upstairs to the first floor treatment rooms, one half for the noisier treatments like waxing and spray tans, and the other for the more relaxing treatments such as massage and facials. We entered one of the massage rooms, with a comfy bed, ambient music and lots of lovely warm throws and towels.

Our massage was the infamous Signature Q61 Deep Tissue Massage, which was medium pressure and full relaxation. Our therapist made sure that everything was perfect from start to finish. The massage itself covered the back, shoulders and neck and lasted for approximately 30 minutes, and we absolutely did not want it to end.

So, for all your Christmas and New Year beauty treatments we would highly recommend visiting Harrogate’s newest salon Q61, we feel it’s one of the best in the town. The staff are second-to-none in making sure that your every need is taken care of, the salon is welcoming and warm, and best of all, the treatments are beyond excellent.

Huge thanks to Katie D for her expert luxury pedicure and for the Signature Q61 Massage, which resulted in one very happy #TeamCoco girl.

Carly’s love of stones and jewelry began at a young age. Some of her earliest influences were immediate family, her Great-Grandfather, a lapidarist, and her Grandmother, a jewelry collector. From here the unlikely inception of CWD was born.

Her formative years in the small community of Big Sur encouraged her creative spirit. Mellow days were often consumed traipsing the near-by beaches, finding small treasures such as shells, jade, and abalone. Carly’s love of the ocean, stones, and travel are the main inspiration behind her work.

Here, she tells us more…

When did you launch the brand and what was the reason behind it?
I launched my eponymous brand in early 2017. Firstly, I have a family-reared passion for jewelry. My paternal Grandpa was a lapidarist, and my Grandma is obsessed with all types of jewelry and gemstones. She would show me her gems from exotic places and would, on occasion, gift me special pieces- this was the beginning of my infatuation. When it came to starting a venture- I wanted to fuse my artistry into whatever I was doing. With my line, you can expect playful cuts of unusual gemstones wrapped in delicate chain. There is a lot more to come in 2019 so stay tuned!!

What’s your background?
My family is in agriculture, farming here in the “Salad Bowl of the World” aka the Central Valley of California. I was raised in a small, artistic community on the coast known as Big Sur. We lived right on the beach and did not have electricity for a number of years. Many of the luminaries, artisans, and writers all flocked to this special place for solace and inspiration. Art was a part of my culture and upbringing. I later studied Psychology and worked in hospitality before launching Carly Waters Designs.

How many people are involved in the company and what are their roles?
Apart from some manufacturing and marketing tasks, it’s a one-woman show! I currently design the jewelry, produce, manage my social media, manage retail accounts, and write the journal posts. It’s a lot but at least being the perfectionist that I am I can make everything how I’d like it.

If you could start over with the business, would you do anything differently?
I would have defined my target niche better. I was focused mainly on the creative side of things.

What is the hardest challenge you have faced since you started the company?
I think the hardest challenge is just staying on top of everything. There is so much to do, constant correspondence, so it is a lot to have so many irons in the fire simultaneously.

Tell us one fact about you that people wouldn’t know?
I am one of six children (from the same parents)!

2019 is almost here, where do you plan on taking the brand?
For 2019, I am excited to engage in more creative and visual projects to further my brand. I have some exciting new collections that I plan to launch. I hope to further network, expose and market my product. I may do some trade shows as well.

To date, what has been the highlight since launching?
I think one of the most exciting things was being contacted and featured in Conde Nast publications in the UK- I was in Vanity Fair, Glamour and Vogue, among others. It is also very rewarding to see people wear and love my designs.

Which city do you feel most at home in, London, Paris or New York?
Well, I’m actually a California girl, so I would have to say with honesty none of those cities!

Three beauty products you can’t leave the house without?
My Epicuren moisturiser, my MAC eyelash curler, Dior universal brow styler, yep, that’s it!

Style means….?
Style means being able to attain a cohesive and enjoyable aesthetic and feel, in any facet of your life, whether it is your living space or your sartorial presentation. Style is being able to express your own sense of artistry and creativeness as it applies to every facet of tangible life. To me, life without style and distinction but would mundane!

Best thing about London to you?
It is just such a wonderful amalgam of different cultures and sophistication. I also have a thing for English accents, lol.

Statement shoe or statement bag?
I would have to go with a shoe. Nothing like a little pop of fun at the feet to add zest to an outfit.

If you had to, what piece of clothing from your wardrobe would you wear everyday?
My comfy Mother jeans

Favourite love song?
Con te Partido by Andrea Boticelli is nostalgic for me.

Best place for a coffee?
I don’t drink coffee, but do love drinking lavender tea right in my living room.

Most memorable piece of advice given to you?
Believe in yourself!! If you can’t how will anyone else!

Any quotes that you live by?
“I am going to make everything around me beautiful – that will be my life.” ― Elsie de Wolfe

“If you don’t build your dream someone will hire you to help build theirs.”― Tony Gaskins

Guilty pleasure?
Blowing off responsibilities for the beach.

If you could spent 24 hours in anywhere in the world, where would it be?
I would love to be back in the Seychelles.

In future, how do you plan on expanding the company?
I absolutely love expressing my artistry with jewelry, but I would love to expand my product base. Keep an eye out for specialty gifts and one-of-a-kind items!

HOC: Who is a member of the NWO? What characterises them?

Freddie: The New Working order is a segment of Gen Z who works with an exploratory, innovative style, using technology (like their phones!) to enhance their creativity and productivity. They express themselves with confidence and style, collaborate with others, engage meaningfully with the world around them, and are motivated by purpose and passion in everything they do. Many of them are also deciding not to work the traditional 9-5 but instead turn their passions into pounds and build custom careers that are bespoke to them. They have a strong self-starter mentality, with over half admitting that they already have a passion project on the side!

HOC: Is this really how we’ll ALL work in the future? What skills do we need to have?

Freddie: It’s definitely a possibility, particularly as technology plays an increasingly important role in all our lives and careers. To be successful in the future, today’s young people will require creative skills, vision, and the ability to be responsive and to act.. To get there though, we need to overcome the current lack of access to technology and funds which is restricting young people from achieving their goals. 62% of Gen Z say that limited access to technology and funds is acting as a barrier to them achieving their potential.

HOC: Tell us about this comp with Huawei, how / where can we enter?

Freddie: I’m really excited to be working with Huawei to give away one of three £10,000 bursaries to mark the launch of the Huawei Mate 20 Pro which will help young creative talent take their passion project to the next level. It could be for a new online course, to record a new podcast series, set up a supper club, sell something online, whatever their passion project may be. To be in with a chance of winning you all you need to do is submit a personal statement of 500 words to huaweinewworkingorder.co.uk by the 10th December.

HOC: You are no strangers to lifting other women up, what’s happening with SHE Unleashed?

Freddie: The SHE Unleashed workshops have taken a step back for a moment as I’ve been doing so much with Big Hair No Care, with pop-ups launching in both Paris and New York. The workshops will be back later next year but I’ve been working on something new and really exciting – my own podcast!

The podcast (launching before the end of the year) ties in nicely to the work I’ve been doing for SHE Unleashed. It will be all about being confident at times of vulnerability and I’ll discuss topics like self love, care, growth, finding confidence, chasing your dreams and creating the life you want. The workshops will be back in the near future but for now, I’m concentrating on bringing you my podcast that you can listen to at any time.

HOC: Let’s be honest, how the hell do you fit it all in?

Freddie: It can be difficult to fit everything in but I manage it well. I think the first part is accepting that everything will continue to move around you – your businesses, relationships and confidence in a new life being a mother.

The real key is a having a strong support system, which I definitely am lucky enough to have. My mother is amazing, as is my husband, Tom. They both look after my son, Hugo, when I’m working at the weekends and on weekdays so I don’t have to worry about him. My friends are also a big part of my support team and I’m never afraid or too proud to ask for their help.

I have a great support team in my working life too and they help me piece everything together – one day I’ll be on a photo shoot and the next, I’ll be coordinating my other projects sat at my desk.

This year has been particularly difficult to fit it all in, I sadly lost my Father and still being new to motherhood can be a challenge. If I’m down, I encourage myself to pull it together and keep going – I read a lot of spiritual books, meditate everyday and have acupuncture. I also make sure I have a couple of slow mornings every week to keep myself in balance.

HOC: And what’s happening with your brand?

Freddie: We’ve had amazing year – we had a three-day pop-up in Paris so it was nice to bring the brand to my home, where I usually hang with my friends. We also launched a pop-up in New York, which had an incredible reception, so much so that we are heading to the US in 2019! It’s incredible to see Big Hair No Care do so well and I feel so proud that I started out as blogger and grew my businesses through social media – the power of technology! I will always remember where I started out but now my long-term goal is to grow my business.

HOC: Do you believe in New Year’s Resolutions / Mantras – and if so, what are yours?

Freddie: I’m not so sure about New Year’s Resolutions as they are bound by the fact you need to change something about yourself. I feel it should be a theme based on your personal growth so I try to have intentions instead. This year it was my intention to find my voice and have the courage to start my own podcast. Next year, it is about being settled in to my projects and focus on creating from a place of confidence and validity.
