House of Coco have been lucky enough to experience many wonderful launches, places, and products. Most recently #TeamCoco were some of the first guests and UK press to experience a new resort in the Maldives: Cora Cora.

So, here is a whistle-stop summary of the new resort. Be sure to keep an eye out for the full feature in our next print issue to find out why your next booking should be Cora Cora.

Compared to our usual level of luxury, Cora Cora isn’t up there. Yet the resort offers a different type of luxury, freedom. After multiple lockdowns and what feels like a never-ending global pandemic, freedom is what we are all yearning for. So, the fact Cora Cora’s main concept is freedom, makes it the most luxurious place of all.

The resort is situated on Maamigili Island in Raa Atoll, a natural lagoon in the middle of the Indian Ocean. Cora Cora is the vibrant and colourful dose of escapism in a place full of blue skies and turqoise waters. The resort offers 100 villas ranging from beach villas to a family villa complete with pool and slide into the ocean.

Cora Cora has a premium all-inclusive concept meaning you can enjoy all the food you like. The package also includes a few complimentary resort experiences.

The food at Cora Cora is most definitely a highlight as Head Chef, Muath Abu Diab oversees the four restaurants. From Acquapazza, an Italian restaurant, who’s chef has only cooked pizza for 15 years. To Tazaa a restaurant that has a ‘curry master’ that specialises in 50 curries from Indian to Maldivian. The curated culinary team is set to make every dish unforgettable. They also cater for a range of dietary requirements; opt for vegan meals, refined sugar free treats, or tee-total drinks.

For a small island there is a lot to do at Cora Cora. Have a massage at the Moshka Spa, snorkel in the home coral reef just meters from the beach, have a fly board lesson or simply while away the hours by the pool.

The resort celebrates the culture and heritage of the Maldives with an on-site museum and heritage site. The island is home to two extremely rare ritual baths from the pre-Islamic times. Along with an array of artefacts from throughout the ages; a haven for history lovers.

If guests wish to venture off the island there are excursions ranging from jet-ski tours to other islands and sandbank picnics. There is also the option of a boat trip to Ghost Island, an island left abandoned by the 2004 tsunami.

In the evenings relax after dinner with a few drinks and live music or opt for a romantic evening with beach cabana dinner. There is even the option to watch a film of your choice with a private ‘cinema on the sand’.

However you choose to spend your time at Cora Cora, the team will ensure you enjoy your freedom time and leave feeling rejuvenated.

Pack your bags it’s time to explore the Norfolk Coast and some of the UK’s best beaches…

In my twenty-nine years of living in East Anglia, I had visited Norfolk a grand total of once. One time. One camping trip. I was around sixteen years old, suited and booted in Jack Wills from head to toe (it was 2009, enough said) and enjoyed a couple of days tent camping with a few friends. It was here I actually discovered I don’t really enjoy camping in tents, which is predominantly what led to the purchase of my campervan. I love to explore, discover and feel at one with nature, but I also need a solid roof, you know?

With the introduction of Elvis into my life (my campervan, in case you’re not yet acquainted), it was time to hit the road and explore. Norfolk was pretty high on my list, as not only is it in fairly close proximity to Cambridgeshire, the roads are flat and easy to navigate, and of course, the beaches are pretty amazing too. In fact, I returned to Norfolk three times further during the summer as it really took hold of me. The laidback, slower pace of life, endless campsites, beachside restaurants and nature walks. This is the life for me!

If you’re planning a trip to Norfolk (and so you should) be sure to check out these five wonderful locations…

Brancaster Beach

White sandy beach, crystal clear water, is the Maldives, or is it Brancaster Beach? A real gem on the Norfolk coast, this dog-friendly beach is most definitely worth visiting. You may even notice a shipwreck on the beach as you walk east! Take a picnic as there’s only a small snack shop, and breathe in that fresh sea air.

Sandringham

And more specifically, the Sandringham Estate. If long walks among tall trees and wildlife are your thing, you’ll love a trip to the Sandringham Estate. It’s dog-friendly so you can bring your pooch along for the ride too! It’s worth checking opening times before you go as some part of the estate close for the winter months, so this is best kept for spring-summer trips.

Burnham Market

This picturesque traditional village on the North Coast is known for its chic boutique shops, the most-fabulous pink sweet shop, and is only a short drive from spectacular beaches. Pop by Mabel’s for your sugar fix and why not head to The Hoste Arms afterwards for a quick pint?

Holkham Hall and Beach

Hailed as one of the most beautiful unspoiled stretches of coast in the country, Holkham Beach is pure delight. Enjoy miles of golden sand dunes and pine trees once you’ve made your way down – there’s a little bit of walking involved, but it’s worth it! Not only will you be spoilt by the beach and nature reserve, there’s also Holkham Hall nearby, a truly magnificent stately home. Here you can wander around the immaculate gardens and even rent out a boat on the lake!

Wells-next-the-sea

Wells is a popular Norfolk destination for travellers, and what’s not to love! Situated in the heart of the North Norfolk coast, this coastal town is bursting with independent shops, historical houses and dog-friendly places to eat. The beach and town are separated by approximately one mile, but there are various routes to take you from A to B, and it’s a great chance to take in the views. A stroll along the harbour is sure to blow away the cobwebs.

Curate Beauty is a community-based wholesale buying platform that brings independent beauty brands and likeminded retailers under one digital roof. The founding team, of beauty and retail experts, provide brands with incredible stockists opportunities and unique partnership, increasing their brand awareness and boosting sales.

Tell us about the journey that led you to launching Curate Beauty…

My co-founder and I both come from complementary backgrounds, I worked as a beauty journalist and fell in love with the surge of independent beauty brands emerging. Margot Vitale, previously was a buyer and merchandiser at Saks Fifth Avenue, in New York so together we saw the hassles that lay with these smaller indie brands being discovered by independent shops, department stores and even beauty salons. We wanted to create a platform and a community that harnessed these brands giving them the opportunity to grow their businesses and successfully increase their sales.

What’s been the biggest challenge you’ve faced in business and how did you overcome it?

We launched in February 2020, just before the pandemic hit in March, in the UK. Navigating a new business is tough alone, but trying to start something and be hit with a global pandemic is unprecedented. We worked tirelessly to prove our concept and worked initially to sign online retailers (while they were the ones who were open) for our brands, we also started building our community with monthly seminars that would help give the small businesses we worked with extra skills and knowledge to grow. It’s been a huge learning curve we know we’ll be on for many years as young entrepreneurs, but if we can get through this, I’ll be so proud of what we’ve achieved!

If you were to describe your business mantra in three words, what would they be?

Curate….. Convenience….. Community

They’re our three pillars that make us unique and stand out amongst other competitor platforms.

What advice would you offer anyone interested in venturing into the world of online buying platforms?

For retailers it really is a breath of fresh air to traditional buying, it takes out a lot of the time, admin and complications needed to traditionally buy. My best advice for retailers is to always communicate with the platform hosts, i.e. ourselves! We have a wealth of beauty knowledge in-house (over 20+ years) and are always up for sharing this when it comes to recommendations.

For brands, it opens them up to a much wider audience enabling them to get their brand seen by so many more prospective buyers. The best advice I’d say to brands is to be flexible, small initial orders can lead to long and fruitful partnerships. Don’t be closed off to opportunities that are slightly out of your comfort zone. Who knows where they could lead.

Talk us through an average business day in your life…

Every day is different. I spend a lot of my time consulting for our retailers to recommend them unique brands. I oversee all the marketing – from social to newsletters and also manage new starters we just bought on board. I also have been busy planning our upcoming Virtual Tradeshow which is in September. We’ll be using it as an opportunity to bring our platform to life, with trend talks every morning with incredible experts – including The Stack, Stylus, CEW and The Telegraph.

Business can be an upward struggle at times, what do you do to stay positive?

Surrounding myself with positive people is essential. My co-founder and I took part in a business accelerator programme with Huckletree last year and we’ve stayed really close with the other founders. It’s been great to ask them for advice and share contacts while we’re all at a similar stage of our businesses. They’ve been integral to help support us through the lows and be there for the highs.

What is your go-to quote when lacking motivation?

Success doesn’t come overnight. Hard graft reaps rewards – but it’s how hard you graft that will really show how successful you can be.

How much has social media played a role in the success of your brand?

It’s been a great place for us to discover new brands, retailers and to share the stories of those in our community. We’ve started a franchise on Instagram called ‘behind the brand’ where we interview founders about how and why they started their companies – it’s been such a great way for us to share the passion and enthusiasm straight from the founders themselves!

We understand that you are organising a virtual event in September, can you tell us more about this?

We sure are, it’s been such fun to organise and I can’t wait for it to all come to life. The event is virtual and taking place 14-17th September on a platform called Airfair who specialise in online events. Each morning we’ll have trend talks – as explained above- and the afternoons will be filled with brands pitching their concept and product line up.

We’ve curated these sessions into trending collections so we’ll have brands from Female Founders, brands directed at Gen Z, Philanthropic give back brands and also those with all vegan ingredients.

There’s also the opportunity for attendees (the event is open to retailers, brands, investors, PRs, press and influencers) and exhibitors to meet in 1-2-1 booths too to network.

Are you planning any developments with your platform, will you be introducing anything new in the future?

We hope to have this virtual Tradeshow twice a year – every February and September. We have so many exciting things in the pipeline we can’t wait to launch including building partnerships between our brands, setting up a content creation arm of the business and also discovering ways to improve retailers buying experience online.

Our readers love to travel, what destination is at the top of your bucket list, and which of the brands that you work with would you take on your travels?

The Maldives would be top of my list! We’ve just collaborated with Soneva Spa to bring some of our indie brands to their spa. While planning I’ve been eyeing up the resort and it just looks so idyllic and the perfect place to crash after the last 18 months.

My top travel essentials are:

  • Skin Sapiens Hydrate Serum – as flying always dries out my skin
  • Leaves & Flowers CBD Cream – which when applied to the bottom of my feet just ensures an incredible nights sleep!
  • Saltee SPF 50 – of course!
  • Nett Exfoliator – is my go to body exfoliating tool that fits so neatly in my wash bag.
  • Jacqueline Organic Lip Balm – an absolute must, I have one practically in every bag or pocket.
  • LAID Sleep Mask – it’s made of 100% mulberry silk and is also infused with Hyaluronic acid!

The Covid-19 pandemic has meant that most of the world has been in some kind of lockdown for many months, resulting in no travel for many people.

The good news, however, is now that people are getting vaccinated, and it looks like the lockdowns have worked, travel is now possible again, and we can once again begin planning trips and vacations.

If you would like to plan a trip and take some great videos while you are at it, what are some of the best ways to plan your trip, and what should you take with you? Below is your ultimate guide.

Decide on your ideal travel destination

Deciding on where to go for your trip is almost half the fun of actually going there.

Most of the world is now opening up its borders, so you have a lot to choose from. What’s even better, it’s that many destinations are desperate for tourists and make it easier for travelers to visit.

Some popular destinations at the moment include Maldives, Dubai, Seychelles, Paris, and Singapore.

We recommend thinking about the kind of weather, scenery and people you would like to encounter on your trip and then take it from there. For instance, if you are looking for a romantic setting with beautiful landmarks, Paris is a dead ringer! Of course, you may have just spent a long winter in the Northern Hemisphere and are looking for some warm weather, white sandy beaches and bright sun. In this case, Maldives or Seychelles would be ideal for you.

If you want to take some amazing videos during your trip, be sure to think about the kind of videos you want to shoot. Do you want a lot of nature shots, or would you prefer something in a lovely city? The tips above should give you a good idea of what your perfect trip destination should look like.

Would you like an active vacation or a relaxing getaway?

There is no point in going on a trip to a large, bustling city when all you need is some relaxation and to get away from it all with no outside distractions.

The same can be said about wanting to do something exciting after a year of being in lockdown and then going to a tropical island where nothing really happens.

Whether you choose an active or a passive vacation, you can still take incredible videos, as long as you plan properly.

With active trips, your videos will be fast-paced and exciting, while a relaxing trip will help you to create videos that are more laid-back and soul-soothing. Whichever trip you choose, make sure that it is the right kind of trip for your needs.

Seek inspiration from friends, travel sites, and books

For the perfect trip, it can be difficult to know if somewhere is a good option if you have never actually been there.

A great idea is to seek inspiration from friends and family. Ask around and find out what vacations those around you have enjoyed the most and why.

Travel websites can also be a wonderful source of inspiration, and you will definitely find a place that appeals to your inner travel spirit.

There are also many books and blogs out there that you could consult to discover the destination you would love the most.

Create a budget for flights, accommodation, and entertainment

Before you book your trip, you will obviously need enough funds to cover it and this is where creating a budget can help you plan properly.

Consider how much money you can spend on your trip and allocate specific amounts for flights, accommodation, and entertainment. Once you have the details of your budget, you can begin making your bookings.

Limited budget? Consider some cost-effective options

After creating your budget, did you find that your funds are limited? If so, don’t despair and consider a destination that won’t cost you an arm and a leg to travel.

If you can be flexible with your travel dates, try and search for flexible flight options as they can be cheaper depending on the day of the week that you decide to fly.

Destinations such as Thailand are inexpensive once you get there, and you can find some excellent hotels and entertainment options that won’t break the bank.

Consider the best places and tools for video shooting

Your planning should also involve putting time aside for shooting your videos.

If you plan ahead, you can find the best places in your destination, such as winding rivers, famous landmarks, beautiful beaches, or spectacular mountains.

At the same time, ensure that you have the right tools for your video shooting. These should include enough photo storage (consider Google Drive or Dropbox), as well as great photo and video processing tools. A favorite with professional video creators is Movavi’s multimedia software which assists in editing, processing, and much more.

Draw up that itinerary and start getting excited

Your itinerary should leave you with enough time to relax, explore your surroundings, and create fantastic videos.

Most people need at least two full days in a large city to make the most of what it has to offer. If the city offers a lot to do and see, you may want to double this number and spend at least four full days there.

Paris, for example, is chock-full of things to see and do, while a laid-back destination like Mauritius has plenty of beautiful scenery but also a lot of opportunities to relax.

Remember to pack the right equipment

Once you arrive at your destination, you will need the correct equipment to create the best videos.

The good news is that you don’t need to have an expensive camera, and you can create beautiful videos and photos with the help of your smartphone. In such cases, we recommend using highly rated video editing tools afterwards to give them a professional look and feel.

By following the tips above, you can enjoy your amazing trip and make great videos at the same time. This can help develop your brand and give your audience a different perspective. With a little planning, you can save money and have enough time for creating that perfect video. Remember to take all your essentials and have a great trip!

With a company ethos to be proud of, she not only makes women look and feel amazing in her designs but she makes sure she is doing her bit for the planet.

This brand is one to watch so we spent some time with Tiina to find out more…

Talk us through an average day in your life?

Oh wow, it really changes and depends! Currently I’m pretty much only working, its getting busier again as the spring time is getting closer in Europe. Its nice though after the off season in the bikini world, to be busy again! Average day is doing admin work – emails, social media, sending orders and at the moment preparing our upcoming Pop Up Store in Helsinki and also working on opening ASUYAMA designer collection at Wolf & Badger, our first online platform outside our own webshop to stock our swimwear!

You opened your first store at 22, what an amazing achievement. How did you do this so young?

I’ve always been a Doer. If I want something, I’ll go after it and just try to do it. What’s scares me most in life is regretting later on in life for things I wish I would have done but didn’t. So, I always try to do things that interest me or I feel passionate about. My mom had her own clothing store when I was a teenager, so I used to help her with her store and instead of studying, I would learn things there, since from very young age I always had a passion for fashion and a dream to own my own boutique. So the idea of my own store I had since probably 15 years old, but at the age of 22 I felt like I was ready! Funny to think now because I was so young and literally knew nothing, but as I prefer, I learned while doing and also learned from all the mistakes! Haha.

Have you had to pivot during the pandemic and if so, how?

Really had a pivot moment in the sales when the pandemic first started! Was great, everyone were online shopping like crazy! But winter time was hard for us, since no one was able to travel and go on their normal winter holidays, we really felt it with the sales and a drop off engagement.

Luckily back feeling inspired and excited for the spring time and upcoming bikini season more inspired than ever.

Looking back since launching the brand, is there anything you would do differently?

Theres always things you could have done differently and better! Now with more information and knowledge, yes for sure I think theres a lot I probably should have done differently, but then again I don’t want to spend too much time worrying the whats ifs and should haves, what’s done it’s done and I will take those learnings and use the new knowledge for future. Like I said, I do learn the best by doing.

Your garments are to be worn from the beach to the city, how do you want women to feel when they wear your designs?

Nothing makes me happier than a person who feels amazing in something I’ve designed. My background is in styling, so I’m very particular in the garment fits and proportions. You can make a woman’s body look so much better with the right proportions and fit in the clothing or swimsuit. Most of the swimsuits and bikinis also double up as tops or bodysuits and can be worn from beach to city looks and I want to make designs for women to have effortless and stylish pieces to wear! If you feel good in a piece of clothing you wear, it will show, and that is what I am after in my designs. To have women SHINE and feel good!

What has been your proudest moment since launching the brand?

I can be pretty hard on myself and in the moments when I should be proud I often feel I could be doing more. But I’m learning to be more patient with myself and also give credit to myself, as I would have give to any other person! But if I must say a moment, I would say the moment I received my first order in our webstore, it’s a moment I never forget. I cried for 10 minutes, haha. It was a moment where I felt like all the hard work and effort was worth it and I was just happy to feel I was on the right path.

Our readers love to travel, what destination is at the top of your bucket list?

The world really. I don’t have just one destination, but as many as possible. I’ve always felt most alive when traveling to a new destination, so this pandemic hasn’t been the easiest, but at the same time very needed. It will be all so much more amazing after we get to travel again!

First destination would probably be Australia since my boyfriend is Australian and lives there. Also I really miss Bali and my friends there so will definitely travel there to catch up and work! Really craving some island and tropical vibes so Maldives is big on the list. I Also really want to visit Galapagos Island and do an African safari for wildlife in the near future.

To any aspiring designers, what advice would you offer them when just starting out?

Do your research. You can never be too lazy with this one! But I also believe if you’re passionate about something, you will find the time for it. Trust YOUrself, there’s million designers in the world, but don’t let that stop you. Even if you have the smallest idea but don’t know how to get started, don’t worry. You will get there and you will learn as you go. Surround yourself with creative, positive and same minded people – it’s amazing how much creativity you can inhale by just being in the presence of the right people. Enroll in school or a course, there you will meet people with same interest as you!

What does self care mean to you?

Self care is EVERYTHING. The more self care the more you’re connected within yourself and take no bullshit from the outside. Learn to love or even like yourself and your life will get so much easier and better. For me, self care is slowing down, really taking the time to do things that make me feel better – yoga, meditation, eat healthy and listening to my body and energy, saying no, that’s important. I practice self care daily and I feel just now in older age I’ve really gotten good at it

With quarantine restrictions being likened to a game of whack-a-mole, it certainly seems that long haul travel is out of the picture for most would-be travellers. However, there are plenty of destinations — especially those whose COVID-19 response has shined throughout the crisis — that people can still and should travel to as soon as we are able.

With news of a potential vaccine giving us a needed dose of hope, we’re beating the #BlackNovember blues by pre-planning all our holidays for 2021 to these stunning locales that are still open for tourism.
