As concerns over climate change and environmental sustainability continue to grow, more and more homeowners are turning towards renewable energy sources to power their households. Among these, solar energy has shone brightly as a popular, effective, and accessible option. Home solar systems are not just trendsetters but are fast becoming essential components of modern, eco-friendly living. This article explores the numerous benefits of installing solar panels, the technological advancements that have made it more feasible, and the financial incentives that help make the transition smoother.

Why Go Solar?

The most compelling reason to switch to solar energy is its significant environmental benefits. Solar power systems derive clean, pure energy from the sun, helping combat greenhouse gas emissions and reduce our collective dependence on fossil fuel. Traditional electricity is sourced from fossil fuels such as coal and natural gas, which when burned, emit harmful gases that are the primary contributors to air pollution and global warming. Solar energy, on the other hand, is clean, abundant, and emissions-free.

Moreover, investing in solar technology can significantly decrease household electricity bills. Once the initial installation costs are covered, the ongoing expenses are minimal as the sun provides free energy. Additionally, many regions offer various government incentives, tax breaks, and rebates to further reduce the cost, enhancing the financial viability of solar power.

Advances in Solar Technology

Technological advancements have consistently made solar panels more efficient, durable, and affordable. Modern solar panels can convert more sunlight into electricity, perform better during cloudy days, and last longer than earlier models. Innovations such as photovoltaic (PV) technology continue to improve the aesthetics and integration of solar panels into traditional and modern homes, making them less obtrusive.

Moreover, the development of home battery storage systems, such as the Tesla Powerwall, allows homeowners to store excess solar energy. This energy can later be used during nighttime or periods when the solar panels aren’t generating electricity, maximizing the utility of the harvested solar power.

Navigating Installation and Costs

The thought of installing a solar power system might seem daunting, but the process has been streamlined over the years. Typically, the first step is to consult with a knowledgeable installer who can conduct a site survey and provide a detailed quote and performance estimate. This includes analyzing factors like roof space, orientation, local weather patterns, and electricity needs.

The cost of installing home solar systems has dropped significantly due to improved manufacturing techniques and increasing market competition. Various financing options, like solar leases, solar loans, and power purchase agreements (PPAs), are available to homeowners, making solar panels accessible without upfront investments.

Look into Local Incentives and Feed-in Tariffs

One way to offset the cost of a home solar system is through feed-in tariffs or net metering policies, which are available in many areas. These policies allow solar energy producers to sell excess electricity back to the grid at a premium rate, promoting the use of renewable energy and making the installation of solar systems economically attractive.

Conclusion

The shift towards a more sustainable future is well underway, and home solar systems stand at the forefront of this movement. By harnessing the power of the sun, homeowners not only protect the environment but also reduce their energy bills, increase their property’s value, and contribute to a stable, sustainable power grid. With ongoing advancements in solar technology and supportive government policies, the future of home solar energy is bright and promises significant benefits for our planet and future generations. Whether for economic, environmental, or personal reasons, the transition to solar power is a brilliant move towards a more sustainable and resilient energy model. Seeking advice from renewable energy advisors can further optimize this transition, ensuring homeowners make informed decisions to maximize the benefits of solar energy.

In recent years, the concept of sustainability has become increasingly integral to our lifestyles. From our food choices to transportation habits, many of us are striving to minimize our environmental footprint. However, one area that often goes overlooked in the pursuit of sustainability is our homes.

Our living spaces play a significant role in shaping our environmental impact, from energy consumption to waste generation. Fortunately, there are numerous eco-friendly solutions available that can help us create more sustainable homes without compromising on comfort or style.

Exploring options such as energy-efficient appliances, renewable energy sources, and innovative building materials can significantly reduce our ecological impact. Additionally, incorporating sustainable practices into our daily routines, such as recycling and conserving water, can further enhance the sustainability of our homes.

Sustainability consultants in Brisbane play a crucial role in guiding individuals and businesses towards more eco-friendly practices, offering tailored solutions to address specific environmental challenges in the local community.

For those looking to take their eco-conscious efforts a step further, integrating smart home technology and utilizing best betting apps can provide valuable insights and opportunities for optimizing energy usage and minimizing waste. By making thoughtful choices and embracing sustainable living practices, we can all contribute to a healthier planet for future generations.

Understanding Sustainability in the Home

Sustainability in the home encompasses various aspects, including energy efficiency, resource conservation, waste reduction, and indoor air quality. By addressing these factors, we can significantly reduce our ecological impact while also saving money in the long run. From small changes in our daily habits to more substantial investments in eco-friendly technologies, there are countless ways to make our homes more sustainable.

Energy-Efficient Appliances and Smart Home Technology

One of the most effective ways to reduce energy consumption in the home is by investing in energy-efficient appliances. From refrigerators to washing machines, modern appliances are available with energy-saving features that can significantly lower electricity usage. Additionally, integrating smart home technology can further enhance energy efficiency by allowing homeowners to monitor and control their energy consumption remotely.

Smart thermostats, for example, can learn your heating and cooling preferences and adjust accordingly to optimize energy usage. Similarly, smart lighting systems enable users to schedule lights to turn on and off automatically, reducing unnecessary electricity usage. By embracing these technologies, homeowners can not only reduce their carbon footprint but also enjoy lower utility bills.

Renewable Energy Sources

In addition to reducing energy consumption, generating renewable energy on-site is another effective strategy for creating a sustainable home. Solar panels, in particular, have become increasingly affordable and accessible, allowing homeowners to harness the power of the sun to meet their electricity needs. In many cases, solar panels can even generate surplus energy that can be sold back to the grid, providing an additional source of income for homeowners.

Beyond solar power, other renewable energy sources such as wind and geothermal energy can also be utilized depending on the location and available resources. By diversifying energy sources and reducing reliance on fossil fuels, homeowners can contribute to the transition to a cleaner, more sustainable energy system.

Water Conservation

Water is another precious resource that should be conserved whenever possible. Simple measures such as installing low-flow faucets and showerheads can significantly reduce water usage without sacrificing performance. Additionally, collecting rainwater for irrigation purposes can help reduce reliance on municipal water supplies and minimize runoff pollution.

For those looking to take water conservation to the next level, greywater recycling systems offer an innovative solution. These systems capture and treat wastewater from sinks, showers, and washing machines, allowing it to be reused for purposes such as toilet flushing and landscape irrigation. By closing the loop on water usage, homeowners can minimize their environmental impact and promote sustainable water management practices.

Natural and Recycled Materials

When it comes to building or renovating a home, choosing sustainable materials is essential. Opting for materials that are renewable, recyclable, or made from recycled content can help reduce the environmental impact of construction projects. Bamboo, for example, is a fast-growing and renewable resource that can be used for flooring, cabinetry, and furniture. Similarly, reclaimed wood adds character and warmth to interiors while reducing the demand for virgin timber.

In addition to considering the environmental impact of materials, it’s also important to prioritize indoor air quality. Many conventional building materials emit volatile organic compounds (VOCs) that can negatively impact indoor air quality and human health. Choosing low-VOC or VOC-free paints, adhesives, and finishes can help create a healthier indoor environment for occupants.

Conclusion

In essence, the journey towards creating a sustainable home is not merely an aspiration but an actionable endeavor within reach. By embracing energy-efficient appliances, harnessing renewable energy sources, conserving water, and selecting eco-conscious materials, homeowners wield the power to forge homes that are not only environmentally responsible but also nurturing sanctuaries for inhabitants. As we navigate the ever-evolving landscape of modern living, let us seize the opportunity to cultivate homes that harmonize with nature, embodying the ethos of sustainability for generations to come.

The increased awareness that our planet’s resources are not infinite, has led to a larger focus on sustainable living by reducing wastefulness. The principle of sustainability is also relevant in the context of upgrading your home. Sustainable solutions offer several advantages. They enhance the air quality, improves health and conserves limited natural resources. Find out below how you can upgrade your home with sustainable solutions that balance your needs with the needs of future generations.

Durable metal sheds

Many homeowners use sheds for various storage in the backyard. When acquiring a new shed, it is important to carefully choose materials that avoid excessive waste. One solution is metal sheds as metal is normally more sustainable in the long-term due to its recycling and durable characteristics. This is a win for you and a win for nature.

Choosing a green roof

Upgrading and renovating a roof is usually a major investment for most homeowners. Choosing a green roof with vegetation improves the air quality through purification. Furthermore, green roofs offer shade and thereby reduce indoor temperatures. This is particularly important during potentially hot summer days. Green roofs also enhance the lifespan and thermal performance of the roof.

Switching to LED lightning

Traditional bulbs are still used in many homes across the United States. However, switching to LED lightning offers multiple advantages. It lowers the average energy bill as LED bulbs are more energy efficient than traditional lightning. In addition, LED bulbs are also more durable and environmentally friendly as they are made of recyclable materials. In sum, LED bulbs is a win win situation for you and nature alike.

Conserving water

Water is a critical asset that has enabled life on our planet. While most Americans take their water consumption for granted, water stress is a global challenge that needs to be addressed. There are sustainable solutions that can help homeowners conserve water while simultaneously lowering the water bill. For instance, consider choosing a low-flow showerhead, which will save water while not influencing the shower water pressure. Another solution is consider choosing a toilet that uses less water to flush. Finally, replace dripping water faucets to reduce waste and expenses.

Consider solar panels

A growing number of homeowners have discovered solar panels as an attractive eco-friendly solution. Solar panels enable the harnessing of energy from the sun even in regions with fewer sun hours per year as long as there are sufficient number of panels. Furthermore, solar energy can be stored for sun-poor and rainy days through the use of batteries. Aside from the need to keeping them clean, solar panels also do not require any significant or regular maintenance.

Home insulation

Insulating your home is an attractive sustainable solution. When done properly, insulation can help homeowners securing the optimal temperature at home. The efficiency of the insulation depends on the choice of materials. Ideally, consider eco-friendly materials like for instance sheep’s wool, which also help controlling the indoor moisture levels. Alternative sustainable materials are cork or cotton.

Pick energy-efficient appliances

Appliances like Refrigerator, washing machine, dryer, television, heating and colling are standard appliances in most American homes. It comes as no surprise that all these machines use electricity and add to your overall electricity bill. When for instance replacing an old refrigerator, it is an advantage to choose a more energy-efficient model that will keep the costs down. Such energy-conserving solution is at the same time sustainable and eco-friendly.

Upgrading to modern doors and windows

A whopping 30% of average home energy is reportedly lost through windows, according to the U.S. Department of Energy. Older drafty doors also tend to contribute to this energy loss. It is therefore financially viable to consider upgrading to modern windows and doors that are designed to maintain heated or cooled air in the home. The result will be reflected in lower energy bills and a more optimal indoor climate in your home.

Conclusion

Sustainability seeks to balance needs for comfort with the needs to preserve the environment for future generations. Sustainable upgrade solutions in your home include saving water, acquiring durable metal sheds, and upgrading to modern windows. Furthermore, green roofs, LED bulbs

Trends around the world come and go, but some seem to endure at all times. Mosaic tiles have been around since ancient times and have a special place in interior designs as one of those “tried and true”  inserts that improve the appearance of your home and provide a long-lasting appeal.

To step up the game, mosaic tiles are environmentally friendly, making them sustainable and welcoming to those who are more conscious about the materials they purchase or use. They are man-made, utilizing materials from other tiles or industrial products, reproducing materials to create a new, innovative look.

If you’re conscious about the environment and like the idea of your home providing sustainable, long-lasting design, mosaic tiles can be a welcome enhancement. Here are some ways in which sustainable mosaic tiles enhance modern kitchen tile design.

Environmental Benefits of Mosaic Tile

The concept of sustainability and “green” practice allows those producing and manufacturing materials to create more meaningful, impactful changes in how products are made. As consumers, we want to benefit by ensuring better efficiency and less maintenance.

There are many advantages in sustainability for mosaic tile, which include the following:

  • It will not allow any bacteria growth
  • Clean-up is easy without the need for any chemical cleaners or sealers (you can use simple water-based products).
  • Resist mold and mildew since they don’t soak up water.
  • No lead-based materials or volatile compounds here!

Tiles made with natural elements like stone, marble, glass, and ceramic are all earthly materials. So, it’s an excellent example of sustainability since there is a natural recycling process.

The durability of the tiles is also ideal. For example, if you live in a home with kids or pets, it can create a lot of scratches, dents, and dings on your walls or flooring. With tiles, however, their long-life guarantee should ensure that there is a very low chance those scratches, dents, and dings occur.

Enhancing Your Interior Design

So, how does having sustainable mosaic tiles enhance modern design in the home? Mosaics have versatility, so you can use them in any room and in any fashion you’d like. Your options have no limits!

There are several ways you can incorporate them, including the following:

Art – consider selecting some eco-friendly artwork for your home. If you’re not into re-doing the entire floor or creating a wall of mosaics in the bathroom, just having some artwork in areas of the home can certainly improve the look and feel. Mosaic tiles can add depth, color, and character to any room!

Bathroom – the bathroom is one of those rooms within the home that deserves a spotlight. You can create an oasis with geometric mosaic tile patterns or gradients that showcase beautiful transitions. You can even be bold and mix and match sustainable mosaic materials that make a unique, one-of-a-kind look.

Tip – start simple and just outline your bathroom mirror with sustainable mosaic tiles to see how it transforms the space into a spa-like room of relaxation.

Kitchen – The kitchen is well-known as the “heart” of your home, and mosaic tiles can elevate your cabinetry by complimenting it with a modern appeal and providing a nice focal point that showcases your style. You can also use it on feature walls, islands, or the flooring to create a vibrant space.

Tip – start with upgrading your kitchen’s backsplash, creating a cool pattern or specific look with mosaic tiles, and see how it brings out other elements within the room.

Living Room – the most common space in your home, you can elevate the interior design elements with an accent wall. Consider recessed areas or sit back within the room as a way to utilize the sustainable tiles and give your room a whole new feel.

Tip – you can start by outlining a fireplace or mantlepiece with mosaic tiles and see how it adds depth and layers to your space.

Pool

Pool Areas – if your home has a pool indoors or outdoors, where mosaic tiles are often used as the signature “blue-bottom,” you can change that visual completely. Consider creating an entire masterpiece across your pool’s bottom or creating a design using different shades of blues, greens, purples, or even light colors that further accent your home’s overall personality or show sophistication.

Other Rooms in the house – if you have a room with a sauna, you could transform the floor using sustainable mosaics. If you have an extra bedroom or study room, you can start with simple upgrades to the walls, such as outlined mirrors or framing pictures with mosaics to give it an upgraded personality.

How to Choose the Best Mosaic Tiles

Depending on the room you want to start with, you may not even know where to begin regarding sustainable tiles in your interior design.

Doing research helps, so consider looking and plenty of pictures online. You can take your inspiration directly from locations that utilize mosaics, like a Paris spa or an Italian suite.

A few things to keep in mind when choosing the right colors, patterns, and design include:

  • The room’s “mood” – this is the feeling you want people to get when they walk in – so if it’s like a bedroom, maybe you want it to feel like a pleasant sanctuary. In the bathroom, you want it to feel more spa-like. The living room is a place for entertainment and conversation.
  • Color impact – depending on the mood you want for each room, the tiles need to help complement that, and colors have a strong effect on emotion. Warm colors like red and orange help provide comfort and stimulate energy and conversation, whereas cooler colors like blues and greens can create a more serene feeling.
  • Balance – while enhancing your interior design with many patterns and styles can be tempting, you want to ensure that each room has balance. If you have a room with lots of patterns, your sustainable mosaics can help ground it with a more neutral shade and no pattern.

Sustainable Mosaics Add Luxury

Sustainable mosaic tiles can significantly contribute to the feeling of luxury within any space. The attention to detail provides an unmatched uniqueness, and you can utilize styles and types of tiles like glass for a lavish sheen.

The versatility and eco-conscious nature of mosaic tiles will surely enhance the modern interior of any room within your home.

As more people attempt to quit smoking, newer nicotine alternatives are beginning to grow in popularity. A study of nearly 1,600 US adults found that 46.6% were aware of nicotine pouches, and 278 had used them. Meanwhile, this study indicates that one in 400 adults in Great Britain use nicotine pouches, with prevalence having increased from 2020 to 2021.

While not everyone uses nicotine pouches for the express purpose of quitting tobacco, it does remain the most common use case. A survey of young adults from six metropolitan areas in the US found that 16.8% were turning to nicotine pouches to quit combustible tobacco. If you are planning to drop your cigarette habit for good this 2024, here’s how nicotine pouches can help.

The lowdown on nicotine pouches

Nicotine pouches are a source of nicotine that does not contain tobacco constituents such as the leaf or stem. They typically come in cans, with multiple pouches per can, and the pouch is held between the user’s gum and lip. Nicotine is then delivered through the oral mucosa, absorbed through the mucous membranes, and enters the bloodstream.
Other forms of nicotine replacement therapy (NRT) already exist, such as patches, gum, and lozenges. However, this review indicates that some adverse effects have been reported with such NRTs. For instance, nausea and hiccups were reported for lozenges, jaw pain was reported with gum and skin irritation and sensitivity were associated with nicotine patches. The review also cites a small study, which found that nicotine pouches have lower mean ratings of craving compared to nicotine gum. This demonstrates potential in terms of using nicotine pouches as a smoking cessation tool.

How they can help you quit

Nicotine pouches have also become more accessible to prospective quitters as they can be bought online. This webpage highlights how the popular brand VELO comes in a wide array of strengths, from 2mg to 7mg. They also have a variety of flavors, including familiar flavors like mint, coffee, and more. Exotic variants like VELO Max Dragon Fruit 7mg are also an option for vapers who are used to out-of-the-box flavors but are looking to quit. Over time, users can transition from higher dosages to the 4mg and 2mg versions. Gradually tapering nicotine dosages can help quitters move forward in their smoking cessation journey.

Quitting smoking may also be motivated by a need to avoid the odors that come with cigarettes, which can be done through transitioning to nicotine pouches. Some nicotine pouch brands like CHILL come in refreshing flavors like mango and lemon, featuring a moist pouch mouth feel for comfort. These products have a soft cellulose base filter that evenly releases both nicotine and flavor.

Nicotine pouches are becoming more viable compared to e-cigarettes or vapes, as they can be used anywhere for an unobtrusive nicotine consumption experience. They are also odor- and stain-free. This makes pouches an ideal alternative for those who want to avoid nicotine withdrawal symptoms, which can be worsened by tighter smoking laws and a lack of other options in certain areas.

However, like any other form of NRT, nicotine pouches are best paired with behavioral changes and a robust support system. A study published by Cambridge University found that smokers who relied on social support from friends and family had higher odds of wanting to quit than those who did not. In a previous post, we talked about the feelings of dread, guilt, and anxiety that can come with the perceived failure of one’s New Year’s resolutions, which can include resolutions to quit smoking. With dedicated support on your side, you can be encouraged to work through relapses and continue your quit journey. With reduced-risk nicotine pouches as an alternative to smoking cigarettes, smokers can navigate cessation more sustainably for better chances of success.

In this exclusive interview, House of Coco sits down with Sofie Andersson, the visionary founder of Anekdot, a groundbreaking brand that is redefining sustainable fashion. Dive into the inspiring narrative as Sofie shares the captivating journey behind Anekdot, her commitment to ethical practices, and the fusion of exquisite nostalgia with modern design that sets her lingerie, swimwear, loungewear, and accessories apart.

Join us on a journey through the brand’s sustainable mission, empowering local craftswomen, and the unique design process that shapes each limited edition piece. Discover the fascinating stories behind Anekdot’s upcycled materials and how the brand is making waves in influencing the broader fashion industry towards a more sustainable future.

As Sofie unveils her future sustainability goals and the vibrant Anekdot community, readers are invited to delve into the world of conscious fashion, where loved clothes last and every piece tells a story…

Origins and Inspiration:

Can you share the story behind the inception of Anekdot? What inspired you to start a brand that focuses on transforming surplus materials into high-quality fashion pieces?

I wasn’t happy with the social injustices and environmental crisis caused by the fashion industry and I could not find lingerie that reflected my values while also having the aesthetic, quality, and comfort that I was looking for to wear myself. I felt an urge to create lingerie in sensual and special materials sourced in Italy where I studied, and design them in a way that celebrates the female form.

I wanted to empower women from within, knowing that the item worn close to the body is made with love and ethics. Lingerie that makes women feel comfortable in themselves and live their values. By using surplus materials each item also comes in limited edition that’ll make you feel as special as when you are thrifting quality vintage.

Sustainable Fashion Mission:

Anekdot has a strong emphasis on sustainability. How did the idea of upcycling surplus materials come about, and how does it align with your vision of fashion and environmental responsibility?

As a designer, I have always been inspired by the fabrics themselves and been the most creative when looking at the fabrics available and do the best out of them. After I graduated in Florence and relocated to London to work with sustainable fashion pioneers, I understood better the massive environmental problem caused by the fashion industry due to the crazy amount of pre-consumer waste in the production chain, and I got utterly committed to continue to source and work with these materials to save precious resources.

In my opinion, to use already existing materials that would otherwise get thrown away is the most sustainable material to use, since even recycling them into other materials would require more energy and water resources. To create underwear and swimwear out of surplus materials is perfect since we can easily cut around potential defects and use smaller off-cuts and smaller quantities and still make designs without necessarily showing a patchwork aesthetic. It’s more work to source the materials and more time-consuming to produce from them, and when we finish a loved product unfortunately we can not reproduce it. But as a small responsible brand, we are highly committed to working in this way for a sustainable future.

Local Craftswomen Empowerment:

Your production involves collaboration with small woman-owned factories in Poland. How has this partnership empowered local craftswomen, and why is supporting women in the manufacturing process important to Anekdot?

We are producing partly with local seamstresses in Berlin and partly with small woman-owned factories in nearby Poland, to save CO emissions by local production, and by having a close relationship with our craftswomen we make sure that each person gets paid fairly. We want to avoid blood, sweat and tears in the production of our collections, which sounds like something to take for granted, but unfortunately is not easy to control if producing far away or even worse outside Europe.

We want that the women who produce for us can actually live from it, and even better, also enjoy the process. It is important for Anekdot because me as the designer and owner of the brand would not be able to sleep at night if I knew that the people who produce for us were not treated well. There have been many catastrophes happening in the fashion industry which shine a light on the problem, like the Rana Plaza disaster in 2013, and unfortunately child labor and extremely bad work conditions are keep on happening. If I want to continue work in fashion, I want to avoid being a part of this problem, at any cost.

Unique Design Process:

Anekdot’s designs are described as a fusion of exquisite nostalgia and sleek comfort. Can you walk us through the design process, particularly how you balance the historical and the modern in creating your lingerie, swimwear, loungewear, and accessories?

First of all, I´m inspired by the material that I source. A decorative floral lace, a minimal sexy mesh, a classy silk.. once I have the materials that I fell in love with in front of me, I imagine how they would best fit the female body and the everyday life of a modern woman. I want the woman to feel comfortable, sexy and special and to bring a touch of nostalgia in the way that the lingerie is shaped or having special details that´s inspired from vintage lingerie.

The amount of vintage feel needs to be balanced with the fabric and to fit into the modern life. For example, if the fabric already is vintage style, I would do the style more minimal and Scandinavian style details, meanwhile if the fabric is modern-looking, I would prefer a high waist vintage style panty and small front hooks on the bra like a vintage corset. Anekdot lingerie should not be pieces to hang and create dust in your wardrobe; they are created to be lived and loved in the everyday life and this harmony and a good amount of comfort is, therefore, super important.

The Upcycling Concept:

Anekdot is an upcycle brand, focusing on using leftover materials. How do you ensure that the upcycled materials meet the high-quality standards expected in the fashion industry?

Most of our leftover materials are sourced directly from the fabric supplier and they have all the quality composition tags on them where the quality is tested as usual on their production. The reasons why they are leftover vary; it could be a defect every 10 meters like a hole or stain, or it could be that the color turned out a bit different than what the original client order, or it could be that the elasticity or width of the fabric became different than what it was supposed to be.

It could also be that they produced too much or too little.. or because it was produced a long time ago and not in their latest catalog. The quality is still perfect. When we source from other designer leftovers or deadstock in other ways when there is no fabric composition tag on them, I quality control the fabric personally by burning them to know the composition (I studied fabric science) and test washing them to know if any defects appear.

Limited Edition Philosophy:

Anekdot’s products are described as limited editions. Can you elaborate on why this approach was chosen and how it aligns with the brand’s values and commitment to sustainability?

I wanted to create pieces that make women feel special and not look like everyone else. I always loved shopping vintage because when you find a treasure you know it´s only you who will wear that unique piece. For hygiene reasons, I don´t want to shop vintage lingerie, and therefore I wanted to create a collection of lingerie and swimwear that is produced in limited edition and feels as special and fun to shop as vintage.

At the same time, by producing from surplus materials, we have no other choice than to produce limited edition, since once we finish the fabric of a certain piece we cannot buy it again.

Championing Slow Fashion:

Anekdot’s commitment to making sure “loved clothes last” reflects a slow fashion philosophy. How does the brand encourage consumers to adopt a more mindful and sustainable approach to their fashion choices?

Our lingerie and swimwear are meant to be lived and loved for many years, and therefore many of our items are versatile to be able to wear them in many different ways to not get bored of them. Many of our items also fit to wear to different occasions; like our robes, they fit to wear from the beach to the bedroom to a restaurant.

And our swimwear also fit well to wear for sport like yoga and as tops for clubbing (Berliner style hehe), and our swimwear are also sold as separate items, so you can mix and match top and bottom to have a lot of variations, if you one year want to buy just 1 new item to get more variations of your already existing Anekdot items.

We also encourage to repair your Anekdot items if they break in any way. Laces are delicate materials so if you get stuck in your pants zipper for example, we are happy to repair them for you!

Empowering Anekdot Community:

Anekdot seems to build a community around its brand. How do you envision the Anekdot community evolving, and how can individuals become more actively involved in supporting the brand’s mission?

We love to treat our community with exclusive deals and exclusive limited edition product launches, and also offline and online events to mingle together in person. The best way to know about everything Anekdot is to sign up for our newsletter!

We also have a Rewards program where you can Earn points (=discount) by placing orders and on your birthday, for example, and you can also Earn discounts by spreading the word about Anekdot to your friends. If you are looking to shed stress, eat clean and chill out then retreat to the secluded, less commercial south side of Mauritius for a rejuvenating wellness break at Anantara Iko Resort. With powder white sandy beaches and lush tropical landscapes, guests seeking the ultimate wellness escape can take their foot of the gas, switch off and relax by taking full advantage of the three- and five-day wellness experiences.
This tranquil resort is located on the authentic, untouched southeast coast of the island which is a million miles away from the west coast where you’ll find back to back resorts and street vendors. Here the vibe is laid-back and serene, surrounded by the ocean and nature it’s the perfect place for weary travellers to unwind.

Inspired by nature, it has been designed to complement its stunning surroundings by using lots of natural, locally sourced materials around the property. Recycled stone, driftwood and water features set the calm tone and as soon as you arrive at Anantara you feel the pace of life slowing down.

The new wellness programmes use restorative Ayurveda treatments alongside local ingredients such as Tamarin salt from the village on the western coast and spices including turmeric and ginger. Self-healing, restoration, improved energy flow and calming rituals are the foundation of each wellness package, created with health and wellbeing conscientious travellers in mind.
The five-day wellness programme incorporates the following treatments:

Day 1:

Start the day with a traditional Tai Chi session to connect the body and mind. This moving meditation enhances muscular strength, joint flexibility, calms the senses and soothes the soul.
Supporting the actions and benefits of Tai Chi, a restorative 90-minute Ayurveda massage follows. Benefits of Ayurvedic massages include: improved blood circulation to help blood reach nerve endings, toning of muscles, calming the brain and body, lubricating and strengthening joints, increased mental alertness.

Day 2:

Known for its self-healing benefits, the touch therapy of Abhyanga massage aims to balance dosha types using oils mixed with herbs for maximum benefits which stimulate the nervous system, enhance coordination between sensory organs, while strengthening muscles. This massage supports healing, boosts energy, reduces recovery time after an injury, eases pain, and enhances relaxation, mood, and wellbeing.

Day 3:

The ancient self-healing practice of Qi Gong creates a calmness of the mind while powering the body with movements that improve joint flexibility and muscle strength. Qi Gong also supports balance and harmony within the body, improves digestion, and can be an effective treatment for insomnia and many other sleep disorders.

Day 4:

The Ayurvedic therapy Shirodhara, which is a Sanskrit word coming from shro (head) and dhara (flow), involves gently pouring herbal oils over the forehead. This is ideal for those with a vata-pitta imbalance as it can harmonise the body’s energy, awaken intuition, improve memory, support sleep, focus attention and improve concentration.

Day 5:

Round up the five-day programme with a choice of Tai Chi or Qi Gong to absorb and reinforce the full benefits of the wellness programme. Through moving meditation, you maximise the calming effects on the mind and physical benefits to the body.

Here at House of Coco we are always on the lookout for stylish brands making an impact in the fashion industry. If you haven’t come across Asquith London yet I guarantee once this conscious fashion brand is on your radar, you’ll be spotting it regularly in your yoga class, on the school run and in your local coffee shop.

Founded by Alice Asquith in 2002, this yoga and activewear range combines high quality with style and best of all this ethical, eco-friendly brand is not just for the yoga mat, it can be styled for a more relaxed day look. Alice who was taught to ‘make and mend’ by her grandmother has always made her own clothing, when we meet at the Asquith Eco Summit, she is sporting a stylish floral jacket she made in her 20’s and it still looks chic and timeless on her. She greets me like an old friend and wants to know what I think of the brand. I’ve got to be honest, hands up, I hadn’t come across Asquith until recently. My yoga kit is mainly dominated by Nike staples and the odd piece of Lulu Lemon however I’ve a feeling this is about to change.

The new collection is a range of wearable staples, beautifully designed with soft, durable fabrics. It’s inspired by Alice’s love of Miami and its Art Deco buildings. Pops of blue and white are scattered throughout the pieces. Asquith’s style is classic yet flattering and multi-functional, you can easily take it outside the studio. I have to be honest, I live in my Asquith Harem pants and have my eye on their jumpsuit, ideal for travelling in.

The range features two core fabrics, Bamboo and Bambor (a natural performance fabric Alice developed and trademarked). Both are ethically made in a Global Organic Textile Standard approved factory in Turkey. Bamboo is an environmentally low-impact and sustainable fabric, it’s ideal for activewear as it’s breathable, naturally anti-bacterial and wicks moisture from the body to the exterior of the fabric so it can evaporate more easily. Asquith is always innovating and looking for ways to increase their sustainability taking cues from leading fashion brands; “Stella McCartney is leading the way when it comes to sustainable fashion, says Alice. She lives and breathes sustainability with her brand. And I love her use of modern, innovative fabrics and technology and focus on a more circular economy”.

It’s evident that Alice is on mission to produce stylish pieces that are made with love and you can feel that her new collection is a labour of love. Asquith is not just about the environment, its about the people. Alice regularly visits the factory in Turkey that makes her collection, run by a strong female matriarch character. “It’s like one big family, we lunch together, swap recipes and there’s a real sense of togetherness” she says.

Asquith is a brand that produces gorgeous clothes with a conscience. For more information on the collection visit www.asquithlondon.com

Any self-confessed bagaholic is familiar with the age old dilemma of taking care of their prized designer handbags. It is exactly this brilliant bit of insight that inspired fellow handbag lover, Marielle Kangasniemi, to create Bagpad.

The idea for Bagpad is simple. Originally inspired by the iconic Hermès Birkin, Bagpad is a specially sized and customisable product that supports the interior of your handbags, maintaining its shape, and also reducing moisture damage. Besides being an absolute must for handbag lovers the world over, Bagpad also provides a longterm solution to keeping the shape of your handbags, while reducing plastic waste.

We catch up with Bagpad Founder, Marielle Kangasniemi, and talk all things Bagpad, her collaboration with One Ocean Foundation, and about the biggest challenges and triumphs she has faced as a GirlBoss.

Tell us a little bit about yourself, what inspired you to start Bagpad?

I’ve always to do something on my own, I just needed to find the idea. So after I finished my masters in Fashion and Luxury Brand Management at Istituto Marangoni, I knew I wanted to do something within fashion and luxury. I’ve also always had a passion for handbags, so I decided to combine my passion with my knowledge and came up with this unique solution that didn’t exist before. Now when you think about it, it’s such an obvious thing that all handbag lovers need.

The iconic Hermès Birkin Bag is the inspiration behind the bagpad, as this is a bag that really needs support when it’s not in use. So the first bagpad was made to fit the Birkin bag, but now we offer bagpads to fit any designer handbag. The bagpads can also be personalised with monogramming and we offer fun patches for decoration too. It’s the perfect gift for anyone who has a handbag.

How important is sustainability to Bagpad? Could you’ll us more about your collaboration with One Ocean Foundation?

Sustainability is one of the core elements of Bagpad, as the whole idea was to create a long-term solution for keeping handbags in shape and reduce the use of plastic. What’s currently in use is bubblewrap, plastic bags, or tissue paper? We know that plastics are the most common form of trash in landfills, and the most dangerous form of pollution. The ocean is filling up with garbage, so in order to help, we are in collaboration with the One Ocean Foundation, which raises awareness about the urgency to resolve problems plaguing our marine ecosystems. They create specific projects to help safeguard marine life, and also perform beach cleanups throughout the Mediterranean Sea. Every individual can contribute to saving the oceans through simple but virtuous actions.

At Bagpad we are very committed to do our part to save the planet, and so we use biodegradable packaging and recyclable materials. Plastic in itself can be harmful to the leather and interior of the bag, as it might transfer colour, start ‘sweating,’ or even scratch the leather, which is why we use only premium materials that are especially suitable for designer handbags.

.

What steps can we take to become more conscious consumers?

Always choose the more long-term solution. Even if you can’t find a completely sustainable and Eco-friendly product, it’s better to choose the one that lasts longer, even if it might cost a bit more. There is already so much waste in this world, so any conscious decision to reduce the use of plastic is for the better.

It’s also important to take care of what you have so that it lasts longer. That’s why it’s important to take care of your handbags. They are meant to be used for a long time and if you take proper care of them they can last decades.

There are many ways to take care of handbags, but the most important one is to keep them filled when not in use. This prevents the leather from creasing and helps the bag to keep its shape. Our bagpads also protect from excessive moisture to keep the bag in perfect condition.

What has been the biggest challenge you have faced as an entrepreneur so far?

To find time to do everything! I wish I could clone myself so that I would have time to do everything and be everywhere at the same time. It’s challenging but also very exciting to work with all aspects of the business. I learn so much everyday and I feel so grateful for having this opportunity.

Another thing that can be tricky is figuring out the marketing strategy. There is so much going on in social media and consumers are exposed to so much marketing all the time, so it can be difficult to stand out. You really need to know who your customers are and where they spend their time. Luckily our product is unique and customers can really see the value in it.

What advice do you have for women who would like to become a GirlBoss like yourself?

If you have an idea or a chance to start something on your own, just do it! You can dream however much you want but if you never start, you will never know. Don’t be scared of setbacks, they help you grow and push you in the right direction. There is always help available and especially London is such a great environment to start a business. I’ve met so many inspiring people here and you never know who you’ll meet, there’s always someone who knows someone. Expanding your network is key!
