Arthritis is one of the most common joint problems to date. What’s more is that it’s not just a single issue; there are multiple types of arthritis people suffer from. But they all share the same aspect of causing joints to become inflamed. As a result, many are forced to deal with some rather uncomfortable symptoms such as pain and stiffness. However, it’s possible to live with this medical issue and prevent it from becoming worse. In this article, we’ll be giving tips on how to live with arthritis.

Stay Active

With a condition that affects the integrity of your joints, moving around seems like the last thing you should do. But the truth of the matter is that’s exactly what you want to do. Doing so can help keep your joints flexible while reducing pain. However, that’s not all it does. Moving your joints around helps them release synovial fluid. This fluid acts a type of oil to keep your joints moving in a normal manner. If your joints are stiff, that’s because there’s little synovial fluid. Granted, you also want to be careful with how you stay active. Any type of rigorous movement might cause your pain to worsen. In the worst-case scenario, you could potentially cause it to tear.

If you have arthritis in your legs, you might want to look into alternative ways of ascending the stairs. Although it can be a hefty investment, a great alternative to stairs is installing a lift. Since Lifton lifts suit all houses, you shouldn’t have too much of an issue trying fit one in. Keep in mind that the company will have to assess your home first. This is done to ensure your home is compatible with the lift. If it isn’t, you might have to look into doing a little home remodeling to add the necessary space.

Work with Your Doctor

At first, arthritis might seem like nothing to worry about. For the most part, especially at the beginning stages, it won’t pose too much of a problem. But with arthritis, is that it’s very possible for it to worsen over time. However, your doctor will give you healthcare advice as well as going over various ways to treat it. They might suggest something such as routinely adding a heat or ice pack to the affected areas. The doctor may also tell you to exercise more, gently stretching and even suggest looking into hydrotherapy. The point of the matter is that you need to work with your doctor. You’d be surprised how many patients with this medical issue don’t take their doctor’s advice at times.

Don’t Hesitate to Ask for Help

Arthritis can have some very bad side effects. Some people are even limited in their actions because their joints are too stiff and painful to move. Although maintaining independence is a great way to manage your self-esteem, there’s nothing wrong with asking someone for help. If you need a glass of water but can’t reach it because it’s too uncomfortable to move your wrist, asking someone to get it for you is always an option.
