Cha Cha Mayfair is a new seafood bar and restaurant at Mercato Metropolitano in the Grade I St Mark’s Church, Mayfair, right in the heart of central London. With a mix of stained glass windows, grilled octopus with salsa verde and lashings of fiery margaritas…it truly is a religious experience.

A Fusion of Mediterranean Seafood and Exotic Cocktails

Cha Cha Mayfair is the latest in a series of exciting new openings for the Initiative Group and combines eclectic cocktails with fresh Mediterranean seafood. With a prime position overlooking the entirety of the food market, Cha Cha’s bar is surrounded by beautiful church windows and has an open seafood kitchen so you can watch the expert chefs at work.

New dishes from the expertly curated menu include the mouthwatering lobster and crab roll with horseradish sauce and the grilled octopus with salsa verde. Larger seafood platters to share with friends are also on offer such as ‘The Carmen’ (£25) which includes rock oysters, king prawns, lobster and langoustine as well as ‘The Sergio’ (£20) which includes scallops, rock oysters, palourde clams and blue mussels. The staff are passionate about serving up the best cocktails in town and are committed to sourcing the best spirits for each drink. We sampled the fresh Cha Cha Margarita as well as the fruity El Dorado (ideal for the vodka lover). The bar was buzzy, the drinks were zesty and the food was unbelievable. We had the best seats in the house.

A Hub of Sustainable Dining and Culinary Innovation

At its heart, Cha Cha’s ethos is defined by responsible sourcing, enforcing a zero-waste policy and being mindful of the way in which they consume products. This is also in keeping with the values of Mercato Metropolitan whose mission is focused on using fresh, artisan and sustainably sourced ingredients as much as possible. In addition to Cha Cha, the church space has two levels of food stalls and bars which are accompanied by a rooftop terrace, whilst the vaulted crypt basement hosts an authentic wine cellar with fresh cuts and world cheeses, a micro-brewery, events and cookery classes for everybody to gather, learn and share. Cha Cha Mayfair is just one of the many exciting developments in the pipeline of the Initiative Group. Over the next year, expect to see the following setting up around the country:

  • Cha Cha at Eden Locke (Edinburgh): All-day casual dining and drinks,
  • Taco by Cha Cha (London): Tacos bar and drinks

Whether you’re coupled-up or out with your girls for #Galentines, nothing kills a vibe quite like spending Valentines Day staring into a sub-par set menu alongside half of London. It might be last minute, but fear not – there are still plenty of things to do in the city if you’re looking to celebrate with something a little out-of-the-box. Here are our favourite alternative date ideas for a cute, not cringe, Valentines.

Greenwich Peninsula Golf Range

You don’t need to be a pro to book a bay at Greenwich Peninsula Golf Range – but with sparkling views of Canary Wharf and drinks delivered while you play, this is one seriously dreamy date idea for couples who can appreciate a good golf innuendo. If you don’t fancy braving the elements, try Swingers – underground indoor golf in the City, with market food stalls from Pizza Pilgrims, DF Mexico and Patty and Bun.

East London Wine School

Forget pouring over the wine list in a posh restaurant, trying in vain to convince your date know something about wine. Instead, head to East London Wine School, located in a private room in the Chamberlain hotel and run by ace sommelier Sam – whose easy-going attitude and passion for wine make these courses both informative yet accessible, and seriously good fun. This February 14th, choose from a 4-week wine tour of the new world, or try an evening tasting wines from Australia and New Zealand. If you can’t make the 14th, they also do gift vouchers, because nothing says I love you like wine in our book.

Banya No. 1

Whether it’s just for two or the whole girl gang, this traditional Russian spa club offers something a little different to your traditional spa day. An authentic Russian Banya, water is thrown onto hot stones providing a revitalising balance of heat and humidity, followed by a thermal massage where you’re whipped with birch and oak branches. There are cold pools to cool off in, as well as massages, honey and salt body scrubs and luxuriating foam baths. Leather booths in the post-treatment area serve Russian specialities (go for the dumplings), coupled with a few shots of Russian Vodka. Booking essential, gift vouchers also available.

Gin House Burlesque

If you’re looking for something to spice things up this Valentines, look no further. Following a year of sold-out roaring gin-house parties, London’s premium vintage showgirls welcome you back to East London’s best-kept speakeasy, The King’s Head Members Club. On 15th February, Miss Betsy Rose, Jolie Papillon and Missy Fatale will transport you back to the golden age of Jazz, with an oh-so seductive evening of burlesque, vaudeville, circus and snake-charming.

Wellington Masterclass, Holborn Dining Rooms

When the way to your other half’s heart really is through their stomach, look no further than THE PIE ROOM at Holborn Dining Room. Spearheaded by Executive Head Chef and pastry expert, Calum Franklin, in this Aladdin’s cave of pastry treats you can also learn to make your own Beef Wellington, with a 2 and a half hour masterclass. All that cooking is thirsty work, so we’d recommend a drink at the ridiculously magical Glenlivet Glade – an immersive winter terrace, where you can enjoy Glenlivet cocktails under twinkling fairy lights.

Natural History Museum, Lates

If you want to avoid the cringe-fest that is Valentine’s day, why not postpone till next week? The 22nd of February is Lates at The Natural History Museum, where you can see the Wildlife Photographer of the Year and Life in the Dark exhibitions. Plus, it’s over 18’s only, and there’s a bar, food and a band to enjoy while you geek-out together.

The Viktor Wynd Museum of Curiosities, Fine Art and Natural History

There’s out of the box, and then there’s this. It might not be for everyone, but this curious corner of Hackney is weirdness at its most wonderful. With top hat-wearing taxidermy, shrunken heads and endless oddities and erotica – it’ll give you something to talk about. While it might not be for the faint-hearted, the adjoining Last Tuesday Society bar upstairs offers cocktails, that are worth the visit either way.

Moonshine Saloon

Part BYOB, part immersive theatre, Moonshine Saloon transports guests from Chelsea to the real Wild West, with the promise of making a fortune in illicit moonshine smuggling. There may be lots of hats and you’ll have to debut your best American accent (sorry y’all) but with house bartenders turning your moonshine into creative cocktails quicker than a fast draw, you’d be hard-pressed not to get in the spirit of things.

It’s often said that a city is defined by its neighbourhoods, each one brimming with the culture and character of those that inhabit it. The Distillery District in the heart of Toronto is a neighbourhood well worth a visit, jam-packed with creativity and style.

The site, former home to Gooderham & Worts distillery, has been transformed into an inspired blend of Victorian Industrial architecture and stunning 21st century design and creativity. The result is an internationally acclaimed, pedestrianised village of one-of-a-kind stores, shops, galleries, restaurants, studios and cafes.

Check out Team Coco’s best places to visit in The Distillery District:

Soma
Calling all chocolate lovers, for a truly rich chocolate experience you need to visit Soma. This factory store has expert chocolatiers on hand to point you in the direction of some the finest chocolate treats. Make sure you try their Spiced Mayan drinking chocolate, its got a real kick!

The Ordinary
This cult beauty brand is anything but ordinary. The Ordinary’s products are described as “Clinical formulations with integrity” by the company itself. The brand is completely vegan and 100% cruelty free which is why their budget skin and make up collection is one of the hottest ranges on the market. Products often sell out within hours of hitting the shelves because they work and don’t break the bank. Invest in one of their $7 foundations and $5 Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5 serum.

El Catrin
This Mexican restaurant has a lively and fun vibe. El Catrin offers authentic, traditional and modern Mexican dishes all created by Olivier LeCalvez, one of Mexico City’s top chefs. It took three Mexican artists almost 100 days to create the dramatic floor to ceiling murals that fill the walls. The cocktails here are off the hook and a fully stocked tequila and mescal bar occupies the length of the restaurant. It’s well worth the visit.

The Spirit of York
This craft distillery specialises in producing a gin, a vodka, a whisky and an aquavit. Visitors can settle into the cosy round bar in the centre of the room and sample the products. All of the spirits are made from 100% rye grain and expert distillers are on hand to talk you through the process and flavours. The most impressive part of the Spirit of York’s cellar door is the huge glass wall at the back where you can view the working distillery. Settle at the bar with a drink and watch the spirits being made.

Arta Gallery
Arta Gallery offers an impressive collection of contemporary work by both Canadian and international artists. Under the leadership of Director, Fay Athari the vision is to bring art to our daily lives and make talented artists accessible to the Toronto community. Art consultants are on hand to help you find the latest emerging artists and recommend some of the finest artistic works to accommodate your taste and style. The gallery also boasts an art bank where you can rent an outstanding collection of art works for your home or office.

Here at #TeamCoco we are a little a bit over excited that it’s the spring bank holiday weekend, meaning that spring is finally here (with a whole lot of April showers), but we’re rolling with it, and it’s a three-day weekend! The early May bank holiday always brings a variety of exciting activities to London, so we’ve listed our top picks for you to enjoy if you’re in the city this weekend!

Kerb does Alchemy: The brilliant Southbank Asian street food festival is back and lucky for us, it falls right over the bank holiday weekend, from 3 – 7 May. Transforming the SE1 concrete into a rambunctious raft of heat and spice. This year they are packing in the flavour with a 29-strong fleet of traders cooking up dishes from India, Pakistan, Nepal, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka, as part of Southbank’s South Asian Alchemy Festival 2018.

Arcadia festival: To celebrate the tenth anniversary, the spectacular Arcadia is landing in London. For those of you who haven’t seen Arcadia at Glastonbury, Boomtown, or the likes, this is now your chance. The 50 tonne Arcadia Spider is one of the world’s most iconic festival stages. Arcadia London is an immersive festival, fusing monumental spectacle, high octane performance and thunderous bass into a spellbinding sensory experience. Explore the festival as sun soaked bass rumbles across three stages, barbecues sizzle, and cocktails flow. Groove Armada and Norman Jay are amongst the talent playing Saturday, and on Sunday, Noisia and Rudimental close the party. Best thing is, tickets are still available. Grab yours here.

Picasso at Tate Modern: We would seriously recommend spending some of your Bank Holiday going to see the incredible Love, Fame and Tragedy exhibition at Tate Modern. 1932 was an intensely creative period in the life of the 20th century’s most influential artist. This is the first ever solo Pablo Picasso exhibition at Tate Modern. It will bring you face-to-face with more than 100 paintings, sculptures and drawings, mixed with family photographs and rare glimpses into his personal life. This exhibition is complex and rich, and gave us an insight into Picasso’s life that we had never seen before. Book ahead as it sure gets busy! If you can’t go over bank holiday weekend, the exhibition is on until 9 September 2018.

Skylight returns to London: After two incredible seasons of fun that saw over 60,000 people enjoy some of the best views, tasty cocktails, wine, beer and fun – Skylight is back for summer in the same spot in Tobacco Docks, and coincidentally reopens today! We think it is only polite that we pop in for at least one cocktail…especially as word on the street is that the watermelon mojitos and skylight sangrias are something else!

Here’s our interview with Annie Pautsch, founder of the cutest brewery tour around: the Brew Cruz in her hometown of Santa Cruz, California.

HOC: Hey Annie, how on earth did you end up running a brewery tour in Santa Cruz?

Annie: Ultimately it came down to a few key factors: my love for craft beer and wanting to work in or around it, timing, hard work, and no regrets for trying something I’m passionate about. Of course, Santa Cruz itself inspires me with its laid-back vibe and California cool culture.

HOC: What is it about craft breweries that you can’t get enough of?

Annie: The brewers and their unconventional curiosity and creativity. The smell, sound, attention to detail and taste. The environment, ambiance, and vibe– 7 days a week doors are open to everyone without exclusivity, offering a warm, comfortable place to imbibe, converse, relax, connect, and draw inspiration. The history of breweries- their individual stories and legacies.

HOC: When you started out in your career, where did you want it to go? And how does that compare to where you are now?

Annie: My goals for the business have always been in stages, so that I allow myself flexibility when things inevitably go off-course and you have to readjust. Initially I was thrilled just to have passengers on the bus! Now one of the aspects I’m most proud of in my career are the relationships I’ve carefully built and maintained, and the integrity and sincerity with which I’ve run my business. I never set out to expand too quickly, and have definitely made trajectory moves that feel natural and right for maintaining what Brew Cruz ultimately is- a local business.

HOC: What’s it like, being a woman in (what we imagine is) a male dominated industry?

Annie: Powerful. Badass. Natural. The Santa Cruz brewing community, and brewing in general- to its earliest origins, exists because of women. It just so happens a lot of men also enjoy brewing as well.

HOC: Where is your favourite spot in the world for a few beers?

Annie: I have so many favorite breweries, so it ultimately comes down to sharing some of my favorite beers with the most cherished people in my life- family and close friends. Those are the golden moments, and most of them have taken place around a worn kitchen table, in a garage, or on a patio until the late hours of the night. I do a lot of beer-related travel though, and there is a certain unparalleled excitement felt walking into a brewery that’s been on the bucket list for a while!

HOC: In the UK a light stigma around women drinking beer still exists. Is this the case in the US and why is this still a thing?

Annie: Stigmas will exist as long as people allow them to. In the US, I think I see more of an unfounded expectation that if women are going to drink beer, it’s usually something ‘light’. For any new beer-drinkers on my tours (women or men), I try to steer them toward drinking flavor notes they enjoy, period. Forget about how ‘strong’ or ‘dark’ a beer looks or is and just drink what your palate prefers!

HOC: What women are doing great things in the food and drink industry at the moment where you are?

Annie: Emily Thomas of Santa Cruz Mountain Brewing is always at the forefront of innovation and growth for the brewing community. I’ve been impressed by the women-owned food trucks in town like Ate3One. The majority of beertenders at our local breweries are women and they are exceptional.

HOC: Can you tell us about a recent ‘Girl Boss Moment’ you had in your work? ie. an experience where you felt proud that you’d totally nailed it

Annie: I feel most like a boss when I’m able to successfully manage wearing all the hats it requires to run my business- reservations, relationships, maintenance, marketing, bookkeeping, bus mechanic, bus driver, tour guide, beer connoisseur, wife, daughter, and friend. If I’ve done my best and can pop a cold one at the end of a long day while enjoying a sunset, boss lady has nailed it.

HOC: How can people follow what you are up to?

Annie: My channels: Instagram @scbrewcruz

When it comes to dreamy stretches of surf-swept sand, you’d be hard pressed to find any prettier than the south coast of Sri Lanka. Crowned as Lonely Planet’s number one destination to visit in 2019, the country’s charms are certainly no secret – but despite the burgeoning number of visitors, the southern coast of the country remains an idyllic escape for beach-lovers. Here you’ll find not only palm-fringed stretches of shoreline but charming colonial towns, timeless temples steeped in Buddist spirit and wonderful wildlife, all topped with a selection of seriously stylish villas and hotels in which to stay, alongside unparalleled local hospitality. Almost 10 years after the end of its civil war, here are seven reasons to visit Sri Lanka’s south coast.

https://www.instagram.com/p/BdVBWkmBOL2/

1. Stay in a Sri Lankan Luxury Villa

Sri Lanka’s south coast may have a selection of snazzy hotels, but for a true taste of Sri Lankan living, you can’t beat holing-up in one of the private villas dotted along the coast. Set in their own grounds, you’ll be free to explore the nearby beaches and bars, before retreating to your palm-shaded pool to while away the afternoon. Most villas here comes complete with a local cook, who will whip up a traditional breakfast spread of egg hoppers and traditional Sri Lankan curries for dinner. Better yet, the level of luxury you can get for your money here far exceeds anything you might be able to get at a hotel, and often at a much better price – particularly if you are travelling in a group. For the best selection, try Eden Villas in Sri Lanka – our favourite is Walatta House. (www.evinsl.com).

2.Galle

Take a step back in Sri Lanka’s past with a stroll through the fortified old quarter of Galle. This exotic old fort town is full of history – vestiges of colonial occupations but the English, Portuguese and Dutch. Nowadays, the fortressed streets and rambling ramparts play host to stylish cafes, quirky restaurants and bohemian boutiques – home to a hip, artistic set. Take refuge from the buzz of the city in one of the carefully restored luxury hotels, before enjoying the fresh catch at the elegant 18th-century mansion, The Fort Printers. Here’s our guide on where you can grab Brunch.

https://www.instagram.com/p/Buorm9cBz6T/

3. Whale Watching

Mirissa, a beach town on Sri Lanka’s south coast – also happens to be one of the best places in the world to see Blue Whales. Tours don’t run in the Monsoon season and can still be choppy at other times of the year, so we’d recommend a trip between November – April for the calmest conditions. While Sri Lanka may be a fantastic location for whale watching, as it is cheaper to do it here than elsewhere you will find it is a popular activity, so worth spending a little more for a less crowded experience with a company like Whale Watching Club Mirissa, which has the best reviews.

https://www.instagram.com/p/BgVTvR7F7QF/

4. Yala National Park

Where the wilderness meets the ocean, Yala national park is home to the highest population density of leopards in the world, as well as the chance to see Asian Elephants. The best place to stay to experience a safari in this ecological wonderland? Undoubtedly, Wild Coast Tented Lodge – 28 dome-shaped tents formed by woven bamboo and designed by Sri Lanka based Nomadic resorts, these eco-conscious safari tents evoke all the nostalgia of old-world safari, with luxe interiors by Amsterdam-based BoReudler, with free-standing copper bathtubs, some with individual pools alongside spectacular food and drink, which is all included in the rates, as well as a safari.

https://www.instagram.com/p/BtJTaG_AGaq/

5. Surf

Famous for its surf breaks, Sri Lanka’s south coast offers swells to cater to all abilities. For beginners, Weligama beach break is the ideal spot, while those wanting to escape the crowds can head to Soul and Surf in Ahangama, which offers both surfing and yoga lessons. For intermediate and advanced surfers, Midigama just north of Weligama and Mirissa Bay with its crescent-shaped beach offer more of a challenge. Surf South Sri Lanka is a great resource for up to date information on seasonal swells.

https://www.instagram.com/p/BujHoS9l9e6/

6. Beaches

Less developed than the west coast, the beaches on Sri Lanka’s southern coast are surely some of the most beautiful. The south coast is scattered with sweeps of silver sand, from the insta-famous palm tree swing at Dalawella to Dickwella’s low key local atmosphere. Further down the coast, you’ll find Tangalle’s golden sandy beaches like Mawella not to be missed, while those staying in a villa like Walatta House, often have private access to their own stretch of sandy shoreline, and there’s often a local beach hut where you can find a cocktail to see the sunset away.

https://www.instagram.com/p/BsdP00aAKIu/

7. Temples

With a fusion of both Buddhist and Hindu heritage, Sri Lanka is dotted with temples devoted to different deities, and in the south, you’ll be spoilt for choice. Just 10 minutes from Galle, the serene Monastery at Yatagala Raja Maha Viharaya is a 2,000-year-old rock temple surrounded by rice paddies with mural-covered walls. On the hillside west of Unawatuna with beautiful views over Galle Bay and the ocean, Rumassala Temple is the subject of many local legends, with a peace pagoda built by Japanese Buddhist monks, as part of their scheme to build peace temples in conflict zones. Whatever temple you choose to visit, remember to dress conservatively, keep talking to a minimum during ceremonies and always remove your shoes before entry.

Here at House of Coco we know a Boss Babe when we see one, none easier to spot than Johanna Placenio. A quote that resonated with her is ‘change the way you look at things and the things you look at change,’ and this is the way she has lived her life.

First and foremost, she’s a dedicated mother to her son, Danté. Jo says ‘they say you never understand a mother’s love until you become one yourself and they were right.’ Danté is and always will be the brightest light shining in her life, her first and always true love. Being his mother has been a pure blessing in her life.

In my personal life, she’s career focused and in an amazing relationship with her soulmate, Chris. They’ve been coined a “twin flame” which means they’re connected not just on a physical and emotional level, but also on a spiritual level. Looking back on her path, she knows that everything has been entirely laid out for her life.

A woman who oozes positive vibes only, we went along to find out more about this glamorous queen…

1. Tell us about the journey that has led you to where you are today?
I am a born and raised Texas Girl. My journey has not always been an easy one, but I firmly believe that the tough times help us to become stronger, more compassionate human beings. Sharing our stories can help others become the best versions of themselves. I love to “pay it forward” as the saying goes.

First and foremost, I am a devoted Mom to my son Dante’. Being his Mother has been my greatest accomplishment and blessing. I live with the love of my life, Christopher, and we have a chihuahua named Spartacus.I am a firm believer in following your gut aka intuition. It will NEVER fail you! Always, always, always, listen to its voice. Outside of my job, I always knew that I wanted to do something in beauty, fashion, fitness. At one time, I had plans for a beauty bar. We’re talking nails, organic tans, blowouts, getting makeup done, lashes, all of it. I had investors who were interested in the endeavor, but something deep within said, “This isn’t it. Think about it a little more.”, so I never pulled the trigger. I did my research and even with a full proof business plan, I never could go through with it for whatever reason. The only way I can explain it is that it never felt right and I couldn’t put my finger on it why. I trust my intuition and it always guides me.

Before my meditations, I would continually ask what my purpose was. Don’t we all? In the middle of one of my meditations I heard, “Blog”……”Peace, Love, Glam” . It was an “AHH HAH!!” moment that permeated every bone in my body. It rang “true” and my intuition screamed “Yes!”. I jumped up and told Chris, my life mate, about the idea, and he said, “Yes! You are a walking blog. You always have been! Excellent idea!!”

It was perfect and I knew it was the right path. I have always had a passion for all things beauty, fashion, fitness and spirituality. A blog was the perfect outlet for me to share my loves and knowledge with the world! My passion and excitement was raging out of control. I was ready to embark on my lifes work and began the journey.

2. Looking back is there anything you would have done differently?
No! Absolutely not! I would have done everything exactly the same way because my journey has made me the strong and passionate woman I am today. I have an amazing son, I live with the love of my life and I am getting to live my dream life and job.

I have always believed that if you follow your passion and believe in yourself, everything will work out in your favor. How can it not? I want to inspire and spread love. It is my mission in life. I am so grateful i have the platform to do just that. Thank you God!

3. You are ultra-glamourous , how would you describe your style?
Feminine, glam with a bit of edge.

I love glam but I am just as comfortable in a pair of jeans or running the streets in fab activewear.

4. Tell us about your most recent Boss Babe moment?
Wow 2019 has been an amazing ride. I have been blessed with so many Boss Babe moments. I get to check so many things off my vision board. My most recent? How about my most recent(s)?

Being asked to host a Clean Beauty event with Neiman Marcus. Wow!

It was a dream of mine to sit front row at New York Fashion Week (NYFW) and it happened! Still can’t believe it!

I co-founded a women empowerment group called Glam Soiree’. It is held bi-monthly, we set intentions and support each other. We started in January with 6 women and now we are at 50 women! Incredible!

I set intentions to speak on podcasts and to date I have been a guest on 6 different podcasts. I’m so humbled.

5. What does 2020 look like for you?

Go to Paris and Milan Fashion week.

Collaborate with fashion and beauty luxury brands.

Continue to grow Glam Soiree and empower thousands

Formulate and distribute a PeaceLoveGlam Beauty Lip Kit

Inspire women to love themselves at every age

6. Our readers love to travel, where is your happy place?
I have a few favorites; Paris, Bora Bora, Maui and Aspen Colorado. Each are different and hold a special place in my heart and soul.

7. In the world of marketing, focusing on your own personal brand is the future. You seem to have nailed it. What advice would you give to anyone that wants to elevate their personal brand?
Wow! Thank you! That is a huge compliment! I believe that authenticity is key, details matter, and to know your “why”. You have to get to know what your followers want and why they come to you. That is so very important because it’s really all about them. I only serve as a vehicle of inspiration and information. A source of inspiration and information if you will.

8. As you juggle so many things, what do you do to switch off?
Great question – work/life balance is key and not always easy. I switch off by stepping away and spending time with my love Chris.

9. How do you deal with overwhelm?
Big deep breaths! Overwhelm is a sign for me that it is time to step away, regroup, shut down and spend some time doing something that will take my mind off the situation. Something like working out, going for a run or…here it comes…..shopping lol. Girls love to shop, what can I say!

10. You are a very successful entrepreneur, what has been your proudest moment?
I do not think I can just pick one moment, I have been fortunate to be blessed with so many! If I had to choose I would say creating my successful blog “PeaceLoveGlam” and co-founding Glam Soiree. They hold a special place in my heart.

11. We believe self care is of the most importance , what self care tips would you offer our readers? I absolutely agree that self care is very important. To take care of the mind, body and soul is not always easy, but I am a huge advocate of self care. If we do not take care of ourselves, we will not be able to take care of our loved ones and the responsibilities we have. When we are balanced, the world around us is balanced. Here are my tips:

  • Sleep is a must! 7-8 hours is highly recommended.
  • Take care of your Gut health! When your gut is healthy you’re healthy. Unhappy gut = unhappy human and vice versa
  • Learn to say “No”. You will feel empowered and have more time for ourselves. We do need that time
  • Get out and Sweat! Its good for the soul.
  • Make Eating right a lifestyle not a diet
  • Take a self-care trip with your partner and/or your girlfriends.
  • Put selfcare time on the calendar and dont let anything /anyone keep you from that time.
  • Go for walks with your pups, there is something beautiful and special about that time.
  • Meditate- it will keep you grounded

I would love to share one of my favorite quotes from Marianne Williamson with all the beautiful souls reading this:

“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, ‘Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?’ Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It’s not just in some of us; it’s in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.” ~Marianne Williamson

Everything about KAN lives and breathes the spirit of Mexico. At 27 years old, Paulina Hernandez Carvajal, has found her calling; and it is to share Mexico’s beautiful heritage to the world with her fashion brand, KAN By Paulina.

Every item in KAN is made with love and is inspired by Mexico’s unique culture and history. The Temiqui Collection was inspired by the culture of Wirrarikas or Wixaritari; an indigenous Mexican tribe who also create the stunning embroideries that adorn Kan’s beautiful pieces. By working with the Casa Huichol Foundation, who provides medical care to indigenous Mexican tribes; Kan also helps to provide sustainable livelihoods for tribespeople in recovery. Kan is not only a beautiful, colourful, and fascinating fashion brand, but also one with a heart and soul that is proudly Mexican.

Tell us a little bit about yourself and what inspired you to start Kan by Paulina?

My name is Paulina Hernandez Carvajal, I´m 27 years old, and I am a Mexican fashion designer. I love art and the sea, and what inspired me to start Kan was this passion for these two things. Kan comes from love; love to my country and our ethnic indigenous cultures, our traditions, and our colours.I want to show Mexico and the world, all of the richness that my country has to offer. To share the peculiar cosmo-vision that all the ethnic Mexican groups have; and taking people on a magical journey into their unique regions; inspired by their enchantment and seduction.

How important is your Mexican heritage to the ethos of your brand? How does your culture influence your designs?

My Mexican heritage is everything to the ethos of brand, it’s the DNA of Kan. Every single design of Kan screams Mexico, you won’t find anything like our products anywhere else. The dynamic colours of each piece come from my country; from its deep blue seas, to its green jungles and forests. From our pink and purple cover tables that bring family dinners to life, to the colours of a piñata that exemplifies our traditions.

Every single piece that is embroidered by the hands of the Wixaritariis all about art and love. At the heart of Mexico is Kan.

Could you tell us more about your collaboration with the Casa Huichol foundation?

The Temiqui Collection is inspired by the Wirrarikas or Wixaritari culture, and we work with their communities. They do all of the embroidery for the swimwear and clothes; without them Kan wouldn’t exist. They are the magic in this project.

Casa Huichol Foundation, is a place where the Wirras can come to the city can seek medical help, and also a place to stay while in recovery. At Casa Huichol, we work with the patient’s family so they can earn an income while staying in the city, Kan seeks to empower the indigenous and create sustainable livelihoods for them.

Kan is made up of all the different Wixaritari communities that we work with, from Casa Huichol to communities in the Highlands, andor our main Artist Guadalupe Hernández. They make every design in this collection unique, a piece of haute couture. They work hours by hand embroidering each piece, giving us a piece of art, love, heart, culture, and tradition; but most importantly a piece of every single artist that has worked in this process.

What has been the biggest challenge you have faced as an entrepreneur so far?

The biggest challenge that I have faced to not give up and keep believing in myself and this project. Thingsrarely go as you imagine, and oftentimes plan change and you encounter difficulties in your journey.

What advice do you have for women who would like to become a GirlBoss like yourself

The best advice that someone has given me is to ‘dream big, if your dreams don’t scare you then they aren’t big enough for you.’

Always work for what you believe in and never give up on your dream. No matter how difficult the journey may seem, or what people say, you have to work hard for what you want, and also enjoy the ride. You need to take in every single moment. Enjoy the tears, the happiness, the moments of loneliness, and the moments with the ones you love. Enjoy the falls, because if we don’t fall we won’t be able to learn. Enjoy the critics because they are the ones that will help you become better and grow. Enjoy every single achievement along the way, because they are the reminders that you are doing good and that your work is paying off. Most of all whatever you do, do it with all your heart. Because when you put your heart and love in every single thing you do, you can achieve the impossible.

Some say that beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but everyone knows that Barbados has it all. Powdered sandy beaches, turquoise blue seas and pink skies at sunset make for a place as close to paradise as you’ll ever get.

The West Coast of the island has, over the years, become a hub of glamorous vacations and luxury homes, and for the past 25 years, the proud home of the Royal Westmoreland resort.

Royal Westmoreland is the only gated resort on the island, encompassing 250 beautiful homes, alongside world class amenities – a fitness centre aptly known as ‘The Sanctuary’, a world class par-72, 7,045 yard golf course, designed by acclaimed course designer Robert Trent Jones Jr. and complete with beautiful club house; tennis court (the only clay court in Barbados) and saltwater pool.

When it comes to deciding where to stay at Royal Westmoreland, you’re spoilt for choice. Holidaymakers like us can choose between the unique Royal Apartments; lavish Townhouses; Golf Cottages adjacent to the award-winning course, and exclusive Villas which are individually styled, privately enclosed, and complete with pool and sun terrace.

As well as being an incomparable holiday destination, the lucky ones amongst us consider Royal Westmoreland their home. In celebration of its silver anniversary, Royal Westmoreland launched some of its most impressive homes to date across four new exclusive developments offering something unique and special to each owner’s bespoke wants and style.

From the finest in luxury design on Lancaster Drive, to the contemporary, clean style of Mahogany Heights and the secluded, private serenity of Jasmine Grove, the resort provides the perfect luxury investment for anybody looking to purchase their own paradise home. Royal Westmoreland’s existing villas range from £1.1million to £4.9million, or you can even stretch the budget further with a bespoke architecturally designed property.

During our stay, we were given the opportunity to visit 20 Lancaster Drive, one of the specially commissioned villas which was built in 2019 to mark the 25th anniversary. Located on the most desirable ridge of the resort, 20 Lancaster Drive – boasting both a main house and guest cottage – was designed with the island’s natural elements in mind. Arranged over two floors, this beautiful reversed living, fully furnished home features four bedrooms and four and a half bathrooms in the main house – all accessed by floor to ceiling sliding glass doors. The private verandas spill onto the large pool deck boasting panoramic sea and fairway views – dreamy!

For those looking to test the waters of owning their own property, the Fractional Ownership model has been proving its success at Royal Westmoreland for several years. Many owners at Royal Westmoreland first dipped their toes in the tranquil, blue seas as holidaymakers before falling in love with the island, the perfect year-round weather and the world class amenities of the resort. Fractional Ownership presents an opportunity for those visitors to purchase part of a luxury villa on the resort for a set number of weeks, giving the comfort and reassurance of your own beautiful home to visit year on year, without the additional responsibility that comes with full ownership.

If that wasn’t attractive enough, Fractional Ownership includes Club Membership to allow you and your guests to enjoy the world class amenities while securing the long-term benefits of owning a villa. One-week ownership of a gorgeous Royal Apartment starts at £9,000, with a two-week ownership for one of the fantastically located Golf Cottages starting from £28,000, and a two-week ownership of a Royal Palm Villa costing from £81,000.

There are no restrictions on renting your villa or sending friends and family to enjoy it, and what’s more, owners can access the highly flexible Par Points internal exchange system, allowing them to spend the value of their ownership like money on any of Royal Westmoreland’s rental properties at any time of year, if their allotted time of year doesn’t suit them in any given year. After we heard about the fractional ownership model, the only thing we were left wondering was where we could sign up!

The properties alone leave plenty to marvel at Royal Westmoreland but of course, there is much more to the resort and to the beautiful island of Barbados than stunning houses and golf course. The nearby Mullins Beach in the parish of St Peter has, quite deservedly, earned the reputation as ‘the place to see, and to be seen’. The Royal Westmoreland Beach Club sits pride of place on Mullins Beach in a private area which is reserved exclusively for guests and residents to experience the beach in its true relaxing atmosphere, and of course with an expert mixologist on hand to make sure you never get thirsty. Better yet, there’s a dedicated transport service to take you from the resort to the Beach Club, so no need to worry about over-refreshing on the rum.

Where to eat

Royal Westmoreland Beach Club:

Head to the Royal Westmoreland Beach Club, set on the famous Mullins Beach. to enjoy a beach-side meal overlooking the Barbados sea. Perfect for a light lunch, divine three-course dinner or even to enjoy watching the beautiful sun go down, the resorts award-winning chef and his team are sure to cook up a feast to make your Caribbean adventure even more wonderful. Enjoy anything from the famous chicken roti, to catch of the day cooked to your liking, wonderful pasta dishes, risottos and delicious salads.

The Club House:

The resort’s Club House is a bar and restaurant with a menu of some of the best Bajan lunch dishes and international flavours. The outside terrace is the piéce de resistance, overlooking the golf course and the Caribbean Sea beyond, making it the perfect place for drinks, whatever time of day. From January 2020, the Club House will be offering up a quintessential British classic in the form of a very elegant Afternoon Tea (on Thursdays) for anyone who wants to enjoy a slice of home.

The Rum Shak:

Barbados is 19 miles long and 6 miles wide – that’s pretty small right? Mind-blowingly, the island has over 1500 rum shacks dotted around – so you’re never too far from a drink. In fact, there’s one right in the resort!

The Rum Shak is Royal Westmoreland’s answer to relaxed food and drink where you can, quite literally, drink rum by the bottle. Local rums are the go-to here for most guests, with a side of coke and a bucket of ice. The Rum Shak is also the one-stop-shop for casual Bajan dining, with a menu of Bajan fishcakes, flying cutters and Caribbean chicken roti. This is also one of the best places on the island to catch a hearty breakfast before the surf.

In your villa:

If your holiday mode is at 100 and you have no desire to venture out, there’s an option the resort will arrange for the ultimate fine dining experience, with your own private chef cooking for you in the comfort of your luxury villa. While you sip champagne and watch the sun go down on your balcony, your chef will whip up whatever your heart desires, be it a selection from Royal Westmoreland’s set menu, or a suggestion of your own choice. They will even source and provide the ingredients for you and your chef without you having to lift a finger!

What to do

Animal Flower Cave (21KM from resort):

The Caribbean is, without a doubt, picture perfect, but few spots demand such attention as the Animal Flower Cave. Located at the northernmost point of the island, in the parish of St Lucy, the cave is a hotspot for some of the best views (and the coolest geology!) around. The name of the site comes from the walls, which are brightly coloured from oxidation and form unusual animal shapes. The cave opens up to breathtaking views over the Atlantic Ocean – perfect for that all-important Instagram shot.

Mount Gay Rum Distillery (10KM from resort):

Rum is the fuel that ignites the very passion of Barbados. Mount Gay is known internationally as one of the best rums in the world – and their home is right here on the island. Tours are guided through the original distillery where it all began over 300 years ago, right up until the present day with the fully operational rum making empire.

Silver Moon Catamaran Cruises (13KM from resort):

Silver Moon sets sail at 9am every day for five hours of luxurious catamaran cruising. Swim with sea turtles, or dive deep into a 19th Century shipwreck to explore the marine life of the coral reef. For a more laid-back approach to the day, you’re also quite welcome to sit on the deck with a cocktail and work on your tan. Silver Moon limit their cruises to just twelve people, so making friends is encouraged unless you already have enough to fill the whole boat. This is a must for unmissable exclusivity and privacy.

Bathsheba Beach (23KM from resort):

Bathsheba is a town on the rugged East Coast of Barbados. Its name comes from an old bible legend which said that Bathsheba, the wife of King David, used to bathe in milk to keep her skin beautiful and soft. The name was given to the area for its white waters and golden sands, which are said to resemble Bathsheba’s bath by giving good health to anyone who visits.

Jennifer Jane Young is the very definition of a successful 21st century multi-hyphenate. Founder of Injoy Living, she also works as a Virtual Business Manager and Strategic Consultant, writer, alongside running her own podcast called ‘The Art of Making Things Happen’.

According to Jennifer ‘The actions you are not willing to take or the decisions you are not willing to make are the ones that will change your life’ .This motto is the perfect reflection to her willpower and resilience to truly carve out the life she wants to live. Amidst a world of dull nine to fives, Jennifer helps people to turn their ideas into reality through her own self-started business, INJOY LIVING. Using her own personal experiences to inspire entrepreneurs the world over, to not settle, and to truly ‘injoy living’ their best lives.

Tell us a little bit about yourself and your background. What inspired you to start Injoy Living?

From a young age I had a ton of creativity and inspiration. My imagination was my safe space but simultaneously I was suffering. Up until I was about 25 I felt like I just didn’t fit anywhere in the world. Throughout my teenage years I suffered with severe anxiety, paralysing me in so many moments, making me feel like I was broken and unlike anyone else. It was a scary time for me because it felt like I was never going to be ok in my life.

I was the black sheep of the crowd, surrounded by people working 9-5 jobs or trying to find their dream program in school and none of that felt good to me. I needed freedom, I needed to do something with my creativity, and I needed to live a life of my own. At the time I could not quite understand all of that yet. In school, I was a little rebel, and I could never hold a job for more than a few months, as I found that it was physically and mentally excruciating. I would daydream of running away from it all and into a life that I would INJOY LIVING.

And so I did.My journey as an entrepreneur began by becoming a Yoga Teacher. I took my summer vacation to do intensive training and never looked back. I FINALLY felt at home in my life. I then went from Yoga Teacher, to Yoga-therapist, to Coach, to Virtual Business Manager & Strategic Advisor. What grew from that was Injoy Living. My company was built to help people craft out the life they are so deeply yearning for, because I believe that we should all be ‘injoying’ our life.

Injoy Living is where personal development meets entrepreneurship. It’s where I serve as a mentor to teach ‘The Art Of Making Things Happen’ by merging inspiration with practicality so people cannot only dream, but also make their dreams happen, one step at a time. I build deep, meaningful connections with people who come into my circle. I wear my heart on my sleeve and share my own journey in an honest way, so that I can use my life and lessons as a stepping stone for them.

The actual big picture vision for Injoy Living came to me when I was on vacation in Ireland, driving through the beautiful Wicklow Mountains. It was so strong that I took out a pad and paper and wrote until my hand was hurting and I could barely hold my pen anymore. I believe that the vision I had that day, was a preview of my life’s mission. Not all of it exists yet, but it’s coming to life, one chapter at a time.

What is Injoy Living all about? How does it help aspiring entrepreneurs the world over?

It’s always about creating a bridge between inspiration and making things happen, through mentoring and practicality. No matter how I’m mentoring someone, I always see myself metaphorically holding my peoples’ hands as I help them step forward. It’s about creating human connection and a community of people on a similar path. I felt so alone for so long, and I don’t want anyone to ever feel that way. There is a unique path for all of us and I want to help people find that path and actually walk it. Through clear intentions, intuitive and strategic actions and the capacity to relax and let go, I help people step forward towards their yearnings. When I am not doing that for myself, I suffer, so when I’m suffering I know that I’m not paying attention to where my intuition is trying to guide me.

Currently my company offers one-on-one services for people to start a business or grow their business with me as the Virtual Business Manager. I mentor through my podcast “The Art Of Making Things Happen” and I invite clients to come work with me under the coconut palms in Cancun Mexico for retreats, work-cations and intensives.

What’s next for you and Injoy Living?

I’m working on getting my book published, where you can read about my philosophy on The Art Of Making Things Happenand one of the biggest leaps I ever took in my life — packing my life and my dog to move to Mexico.

There is so much more to come. I used to get stressed because I wasn’t making things happen fast enough, but now I really appreciate each individual chapter and how they build on each other. If I can spill the beans a little, the next thing I’m working on creating is a caribbean co-working house in Cancun for creatives and entrepreneurs to come stay with me for work & relaxation. I love being a host and taking care of people. You can sign up to Jennifer’s VIP list to be in the first to receive an invitation here.

Talk us through how you help businesses with ‘The Art of Making Things Happen’

I help people connect the dots from their idea/desire to creation. My strength is seeing the big picture and all the pieces involved to make things happen. Where people get overwhelmed, is trying to sort out all the pieces and matching them with the big picture. I help people break things down, problem solve, put the pieces in order and prioritise what to tend to first (while knowing what will be coming next). I’m a natural born project manager.

I also serve by coaching people who are just getting started (or wanting to take their own path) and offering strategic consulting to entrepreneurs. My approach with everyone is highly intuitive.

Communication is the key vehicle to any work or mentoring I do. I offer high-touch support to my community and clients. Unlike so many businesses now online, I want people to feel close to me and have access to me.

What has been the biggest challenge you’ve faced as a GirlBoss so far?

Taming my creativity. I’ve had to learn that not all ideas are good ones. When creativity hits now I write and write and write. Then I let it sit and see how it feels the next day. I’m a little woowoo so sometimes I’ll pull tarot cards or get a reading from my tarot reader. I trust now that if something is meant to be on my path, it will continue to come bite me in the ass. I use my podcast and writing to channel my creativity, instead of trying to create a new service or a new business with every single blitz of inspiration.

I have to be fully transparent also (because it’s part of my core values as a mentor) and say that money used to be a big challenge for me. Starting at a young age, I had very stressful and scary experiences with money, and those patterns repeated into my adult life. In the last few years, I’ve fallen in love with taking care of my money, with making it, with using it and managing it. It was a long journey, but I finally feel empowered with my finances, which has had a huge impact on my business, success, and peace of mind.

What advice do you have for aspiring GirlBosses who would like to become a Girlboss like yourself?

Connect, connect, connect. You need a community. You need other Girlbosses in your circle. People to talk to and share with. Find a coach or a mentor. Invest in getting help. There are options for support for all different budgets. I would NEVER be where I am today, without the support and connections I have had with other amazing girl bosses. They have helped me become the person I am today. They will share resources with you, connect you with the right people, call you on your bull shit, through your value in your face when you can’t see it yourself. Find your crew is my best advice. No one builds success on their own, not even Oprah. We all need our Gayles!
