Demetrius Williams is the founder of GHSL WEAR®, a fashion brand that is perfect for those on a journey to success. Demetrius is a spiritual entrepreneur who has enjoyed every step of the journey to get to where he is today and he won’t let a global pandemic stop him from achieving his goals.

We spent some time with him to find out more…

Tell us the journey that lead you to launching your coaching business, GHSL Wear…

We started out as a music group in 2009. Whilst on tour we would sell merchandise with our logos and artist name. Our supporters at these venues loved the products we had for display so i knew we were on to something.

Grind hard, sleep less is your motto. Why is this important to you?

Grind Hard Sleep Less is important to the movement. In this world you have to put in the work to achieve your goals. You can’t be lazy. Success doesn’t come around if you’re an unproductive person or have a lazy mindset..

Who’s your ideal customer and how do you want them to feel after wearing your clothes?

Our ideal customers are those that can afford us lol! And those that have a purpose and hunger to achieve their goals and are on that journey to success, you also have to look the part and that’s where we come in.

You have to put in the work to achieve whatever goals you set for yourself. We would like to accompany those goal setting people on they journey to success with our fashionable garments. So when they put on our garments, they feel prideful.

For any aspiring fashion designers, what advice would you offer to those that are just starting out?

Don’t focus on the things you don’t have. Focus on the things you can control. Like creating a good quality product and then create a strong team of like minded individuals.

Looking back since you started running your own business, is there anything you would do differently?

No, there is nothing I would change. Everything that we have been through has created a strong brand.

Being an entrepreneur, your greatest attribute is “improvising”

If you could speak to your 18 year old self, what advice would you give him?

I would tell myself to always listen to my inter self. Never give up, stay focused.

What has 2020 taught you about yourself?

That even through a global pandemic, I can’t be stopped. My mind is even more focused on the growth of GHSL WEAR®

What does self care mean to you?

Self care means a lot. As the leader of this ship, my mind has to be strong and calm. I can’t lead if I’m stressed. You have to calm the sea and listen to your inner self. Being an entrepreneur is also a spiritual journey. A lot of decisions are made on a spiritual aspect, because most likely, you’re making a decision on something you never did before..

Our readers love to travel, what destination is at the top of your bucket list?

Jamaica. Because it seems to have an abundance of colour. I love the vibrant colours that Jamaica offers. From the people, to the landscape, the food and the music. As a designer, all those adjectives help me to stay creative.

Talk us through an average day in your life…

Well, first I wake up and give praise to the most high for life (remember being an entrepreneur is very spiritual) then I get a cup of coffee. After coffee enjoyment I usually read my emails and contact whoever I need to contact and after that I head to the shop where I meet up with the team to give them instructions on our day/week endeavours.

Where can people find out more?

They can go to our instagram @ghslwear to see upcoming events or upcoming garments that will be released. And they can also purchase on our official website www.ghslwear.com

Spain’s gorgeous beaches and superb gastronomy combined, make for an ideal Spanish beach destination for foodies. And what better experience is there than soaking up the life-enhancing goodness of the Mediterranean and its culturally rich cuisine? As an expat living here, I’ve learned that locals, yet few visitors, know the rendezvous of the two is Valencia’s beach town of Denia. The charming town is emerging as a foodie’s dream-pairing come true. Here’s why and how to get your fill of this gastronomical, Spanish beach destination before everyone else finds out.

The Spanish Beach Destination That’s Just Right

Located between the cities of Alicante and Valencia (and their international airports), Denia is an authentically Spanish town. It’s not too big, not too small, and offers great quality that is excitedly affordable compared to the rest of Spain’s Mediterranean Coast. It has stretches of both sandy and rocky cove beaches, two marinas (one with ferries to Ibiza), and a magnificent castle. A favorite among stylish Madrileños (locals from Madrid), the town also boasts a chic shopping scene and an array of plush accommodations.

When it comes to eating well, Denia knows how it’s done. The locals say that there are so many restaurants in Denia, that it would take over a year to visit a different one each day. It’s no surprise that the town is designated a UNESCO Creative City of Gastronomy, complete with a 3-starred Michelin restaurant.

Three is a Charm for Denia Beaches

Denia’s beaches are either right in town or within walking and biking distance, not to mention even closer by car. It’s a popular Spanish beach destination among local Spaniards and northern Europeans.

Punta del Raset Beach

Spanish Beach Destination

Relax on the sandy shores of the Punta del Raset beach, the closest to the town centre and right next to the Portet Marina. This is also considered the beginning of the Las Marinas beaches, which extend for over 20 kilometres.

Enjoy the views of the sea and the castle while sipping on refreshing cocktails and savouring Spanish food at the two chiringuitos (beach bars). Just steps away is the Playa Escollera Norte, popular among windsurfers (even those who are just learning).

Marineta Cassiana Beach

At the other end of town, and next to the Denia Marina, is the Marineta Cassiana. This quaint bay of soft sand and tranquil waters is ideal for paddle boarding. After basking in the sun, quench your thirst at the local chiringuito at the water’s edge. Or enjoy a stroll along the promenade lined with palm trees, pine trees, and beautiful homes. This is also where Denia’s DNA Gastronomy Festival takes place each year in September.

Las Rotas

Continuing down the promenade along Marineta Cassiana leads you to the beginning of Las Rotas. This scenic 4-kilometre stretch of rocky coves will have you feeling like you stepped onto the movie set of Mama Mia. But stop in at any of the locally owned restaurants with picturesque terraces poised over the water, and the mouth-watering food will remind you that you’re in Spain.

Las Rotas is ideal for snorkelling in the enticing waters that beckon you to join the colourful fish and sea life, which are protected as a Marine Reserve.

To explore further, hike the short trail from the very end of Las Rotas up to Gerro Tower. This 16th-century watchtower has incredible views of the coastline and the Mountain Montgo.

Looking for the top beaches to visit in Spain this summer? Check out our curated list of the best ones on House of Coco’s blog.

*Insider Foodie Tip

Have the renowned clochinas, local mussels distinct to this region of Valencia and considered the best in Spain (only in season from May to August).

Try the pulpo seco (dried octopus), which you can see being dried in the sun at restaurants along Las Rotas.

And if you want to splurge, feast on the delectable Gamba Roja de Denia, which are the local shrimp known for their incredible taste (and hefty price tag).

Enjoying the Town

Once you’re rejuvenated by the sea and sun, explore Denia’s history and incredible cuisine. Everywhere you go in town, you’ll get to experience both.

Denia’s Main Street

Head to Marques de Campo, the lovely tree-lined main street of the town center, to enjoy great shopping and an array of appetizing restaurants. My favorites here are Tasca Eulalia at one end, and at the other far end and past the fountain, Bodega Casa Benjamin.

The Denia Castle

Tour the Denia Castle, which is of Muslim origin and dates back to the 11th century. From here you can take in 360-degree views, visit the archeological museum at the top, and even cool down with a refreshing drink at the cafe. The entrance fee is only €3 for adults.

Calle Loreto

Wander the pedestrian street of Calle Loreto, but go hungry. It’s lined with brightly colored buildings full of tapas bars and restaurants. I recommend stopping in at Txoko Bar, loved by locals and visitors alike. For only €2 you get your choice of a beer, wine, cava, vermouth, or Sidra (Spanish cider) and a free tapa from their tapas menu.

The Fisherman’s Quarter

Take the tunnel under the castle to the tasty bars and restaurants of the old fisherman’s quarter, which is on the west side of the castle and across from the Marina Portet. This neighborhood is also known for where movie director John Farrow filmed the story John Paul Jones, which also starred Mia Farrow.

Food Markets

At the foot of the castle, hang out at the new Els Magazinos, an innovative and hip market area featuring a diverse array of food vendors in a street-food style environment.

Make sure to also snack and shop at Denia’s Mercado Central, full of the best local vendors, artisan goods, and a weekly Friday market of local produce, held outside.

Denia’s Two Marinas

If you get wild hair, get over to the Marina Portet and take one of the Balearia ferries to Ibiza or the other Balearic Islands.

Or walk along the seawall in the Denia Marina and stop for a bite to eat at one of the best restaurants there, Basta (make sure to get their calamari).

Both marinas have several bars and restaurants in gorgeous settings. Enjoy views of the sea and classy sailboats set against an epic backdrop of Denia’s castle and the mountain Montgo.

3-Starred Michelin Restaurant

And of course, if you’re wanting a gastronomical experience of Michelin Star proportions, then visit Quique Dacosta. This 3-starred Michelin restaurant is known for creative dishes that feature only the local ingredients of the area.

An Up-and-Coming Spanish Beach Destination

Denia is one of the few Spanish beach towns on the Mediterranean that still feels like a well-kept secret and values its gastronomy so creatively. While the summer months are popular and busier, the crowds are still nothing like those in the more typical destinations along the coast. Add to that the fantastic quality of cuisine, local heritage with innovation and remarkable affordability, and this Spanish beach destination will satiate your foodie heart.

“Powerful. Badass. Natural” are the three words that Annie Pautsch uses about being a pioneering woman in the often perceived male-dominated beer industry. The words send a shiver down your spine, not unlike the warming sensation of the first sip of that hard earned pint, promising an exciting, freeing evening ahead.

She explains that the brewing community around her business Brew Cruz largely exists because of strong women – “it just so happens that men like brewing as well.” From the wheel of ‘Betty Jane’, her lovingly restored eighties school bus, she showcases the beauty of her hometown Santa Cruz, spinning tales of small business glories through four local breweries.

From the sunny shores of California, through the rum connoisseurs of Jamaica to the newly appointed Kelsey McKechnie, a 25 year old apprentice malt master at The Balvenie. – the answer to that eternal question – who run the world? – is definitely girls.

As one of the most interesting industries out there, the drinks business is ever evolving; shaking up stereotypes as well as some mighty fine drinks. If you’ve ever thought about moving into this industry, starting up your own tipple side hustle or just want to know where and what to drink, grab a glass and read on.

Sasha serves as Hendrick’s events executor : she cultivates the unusual wherever she goes. The original plan was to become a journalist but the US economy had other plans….

HOC: Hey Sasha, when you started out in your career, where did you want it to go?

I was very adamant from a very young age that I was going to be a journalist and there was no other path for me. Growing up in a household as a first-generation American, my parents saw my dedication and motivation and supported me wholly in my single-minded focus.

I began to learn how to be more flexible with my career goals – and because of that, I managed to grow, learn and develop in ways that I hadn’t anticipated and am now so immensely grateful for.

At age 15, I thought that at age 30 I would be running my own print magazine in New York City. Instead I’m running around the UK (and sometimes the world), creating, tasting, teaching, learning, sharing, and just generally experiencing the unusual every single day. And I couldn’t be any happier if I tried.

HOC: What’s it like, being a woman in what we imagine is a male dominated industry?

I have found it is so crucial to seek out other intelligent, determined and powerful women in this industry to learn from them, glean incredibly insightful advice, and to always act as each other’s cheerleaders.

We are truly powerful when our voices and efforts are combined – so I cannot stress enough just how vital so many women from this industry have been to my personal journey and I am forever grateful to them. Further, I always hope I can pass on some of those same lessons and be a voice of encouragement to other women looking to pursue their career in this industry.

HOC: You are a woman after our own hearts and love to travel. Where’s the best spot for a few sundowners and snacks?

Here’s one of my most recent favourites and it’s a showstopper… Franco’s in Pyrgos, Santorini: this is not the classic Oia Caldera sunset spot… but has something so special, it feels unmissable. It’s located in a little mountain town that is slightly off the beaten track, and to enter the bar you need to wind your way up through the narrow alleys, through (what feels like) a nonna’s kitchen and head up to the stairs for a view that is nothing short of breathtaking. I had read this is the place for an “operatic sunset” and that is spot on: the emotionally manipulative opera music plays beautifully as you watch the sun go down whilst sipping on a simply and perfectly made Negroni.

Annie Pautsch, Brew Cruz scbrewcruz.com / visitsantacruz.org (full interview here)

Annie relishes wearing many hats in her Santa Cruz small business: if she’s done her best and can pop a cold one at the end of a long day over a sunset – this boss lady has nailed it.

HOC: What is it about craft breweries that you can’t get enough of?

The brewers and their unconventional curiosity and creativity. The smell, sound, attention to detail and taste. The environment, ambiance, and vibe. 7 days a week doors are open to everyone without exclusivity, offering a warm, comfortable place to imbibe, converse, relax, connect, and draw inspiration. The history of breweries- their individual stories and legacies.

HOC: What’s next for your business?

My goals for the business have always been in stages, so that I allow myself flexibility when things inevitably go off-course and you have to readjust. Initially I was thrilled just to have passengers on the bus! Now one of the aspects I’m most proud of in my career are the relationships I’ve carefully built and maintained, and the integrity and sincerity with which I’ve run my business. I never set out to expand too quickly, and have definitely made trajectory moves that feel natural and right for maintaining what Brew Cruz ultimately is- a local business.

HOC: Where is your favourite spot in the world for a few beers?

I have so many favourite breweries, so it ultimately comes down to sharing some of my favourite beers with the most cherished people in my life – family and close friends. Those are the golden moments, and most of them have taken place around a worn kitchen table, in a garage, or on a patio until the late hours of the night.

EmmaLi Stenhouse, Brand Ambassador sailorjerry.com (full interview here)

EmmaLi claims she has the coolest job in the world and loves what she does. She’s right when she says not many people can say that…

HOC: Hey EmmaLi, what the heck is a Brand Ambassador?

When I had the opportunity to combine my love of rum and my love of Sailor Jerry tattoos [as a Brand Ambassador], obviously I went for it. I didn’t really have much of a clue as to what a Brand Ambassador was, or what I was getting myself into at the time. So, I guess I had no real expectations of where it might go, which is maybe why I’m so grateful for where I’ve managed to get to so far.

I get to travel all around the UK, and sometimes beyond, talking to interesting people about Norman Sailor Jerry Collins, tattoos and rum. I mainly focus on education, trade, events and brand partnership. Every day is different.

HOC: Your job must take you on the road a lot ; where’s your favourite place for a rum cocktail in the UK?

That’s a tough one! I love a good dive bar, where you can get an ice cold beer and a Sailor Jerry daiquiri, with decent tunes on the juke box. Bunny Jackson’s Juke Joint in Manchester is one of the best, so is Slim Jim’s Liquor Store in Islington, London. But if you want something Tiki you cant go wrong in Smugglers Cove in Liverpool, tasty as hell!

HOC: Can you tell us about a recent ‘Girl Boss Moment’?

This is trivial but for years I always wished I could open a beer without a bottle opener. Like when someone uses a lighter or a jigger or a spoon or really any flat solid object. I was super jealous when other people could do it.

Someone finally showed me how to do it, and now every single time I open a beer I feel like a boss. Especially when it surprises a guy. Especially if that guy had just offered to open my beer for me!

As official nomads, #TeamCoco have eaten all over the world. From authentic Pad Thai in Bangkok to Curried Goat in Jamaica, we’re not shy when it comes to trying hot and spicy concoctions from around the globe. Asian fusion is our girl Jenna’s favourite delicacy as it combines brave culture mixes with exceptional flavours. You’ve got to be a pretty confident chef to mix a Big Mac with Spring Roll, but Bar Soba has done just that and so much more. Moving to their new Leeds home on the infamous Greek Street, we sent Jenna to give her verdict on their latest offering. Also to answer the question, that after a rough ride on Merrion Street, has Soba had the right amount of remix or the right amount of bollocks to survive?

“I was really sad when Bar Soba closed on Merrion Street. It became a local of mine for late night dining, beer pong and even the occasional failed Tinder date. I really fell for their eclectic interior, laid back vibes and authentic Asian fusion that almost poked fun at everything I knew about Asian food. I really never understood why the Leeds venue shut its doors, but I was very excited when I heard about their comeback.

Playing with the big boys on arguably Leeds’ most frequented street, Bar Soba looks right at home. Sandwiched between Neighbourhood and The Liquorist, it’s definitely an in keeping addition to the circuit with it’s bright exterior and moody low-lit bar that encourages rendezvous. The neon signs are to be expected after the likes of Menagerie and Neighbourhood making this a staple in millennial venues, but does it really live up to it’s predecessors? I’m unsure. The food is ridiculously good, the interiors are nice but don’t blow you away as such. The toilets aren’t great, the staff are mostly uninformed – but I need to keep remembering that this was a quick turn around. It takes time for staff to learn such an extensive menu and to keep on top of their checks and sections and I was one of the first people in the building for them to get their teeth into. I don’t want to make straight comparisons, as Bar Soba and Neighbourhood are totally different venues. But at the end of the day, if you want to be cool/Instagrammable/the go-to place – at least endeavour that your servers know more than one recommendation and get your drinks to the table in 20 minutes or less.

Saying that, when the drinks arrived and the food followed, I was as happy as a pig in muck. Delving into a selection of their starters, the Head Chef got explaining about the carnation of the menu and a little bit about the Kitchen team. Described as a 100% Yorkshire kitchen serving up Asian fusion food, I love that it’s not stereotypical. Of course you can have your token Asian chef cooking up a storm in their bandana, but why not stay true to good honest cooking without any bullshit? I really got good vibes from the Head Chef and he really highlighted the fun element of the food and you could sense his passion.

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again, I love Asian fusion. From high-end venues such as Sumosan Twiga in Knightsbridge to making my own inventions at home, it’s such a fun way to eat and really keeps things interesting. What’s especially exciting about Bar Soba’s menu is just how extensive it really is. From a huge selection of small plates and sides (which is wonderful for me as a serial grazer) to your home-style favourites with a #SobaRemix – they’ve really hit the nail on the head with varied options.

Simply known as ‘Street Food’ their menu packs a punch without trying to be something it’s not. They’ve got your typical staple items such as Buttermilk Fried Chicken Katsu Curry and plenty of Ramen but they’ve shook it up with their original Bangkok Burger and Tiger Prawn and Avocado Shrimp Taco. So what can I honestly tell you is banging? Most things really, but if you don’t try the Cheeseburger Spring Rolls – you’ll regret it for the rest of your days. Not only a wonder cure for a hangover, it’s a genius combination that will have you wishing there was more than four to a portion. If you want to eat tapas style, it’s more than encouraged and there’s a lot for you to choose from. Their Korean Popcorn Chicken is a spicy take on the KFC favourite with a sticky sweet and sour glaze and their Tempura Tiger Prawns are exactly what you’re thinking – delish.

If you’re still hungry after all that protein, you’re totally spoilt for choice when it comes to their big plates. I was lucky enough to find somebody who wanted to split two mains (so we could try two that we both liked) so we got involved with the Crispy Shanghai Pork and the Salt & Pepper Fish Finger Sandwich. One thing I’ll genuinely say though, is that one main is definitely enough after all those starters and you will not need Thai Fries no matter how delicious they are. Save them for when you’re drunk on their cocktails and need something salty to counteract the booze.

Talking of booze, their cocktail collection is varied and mixes twisted classics with Asian influence. One of my favourite sections was Cold as Ice, which basically keeps their frozen Gin & Daiquiri serves on rotation. One day it may be a Peach infused frozen Gin cocktail, another day it may be a classic frozen Lime Daiquiri. Perfect for those spicy ribs and ramen. If you want to go more out there however, their Drumstick Caipirovska combines Vodka with the Cuban classic and a twist of British Nostalgia. I won’t give away too much, but the first word should give it away for those who are still listening. By night, this restaurant turns into a proper nightspot with Hip-Hop & RNB blasting out and the dancefloor full of Leeds who’s-who. It may not be London, it may not even be remotely Asia – but this place should definitely be added to your culinary and cocktail bucket list. “

As a stylist it is always refreshing to come across a new brand! and one that stands out from the rest and Bermuda is just that! the explosive colours of their accessories it is incredibly hard to blend in with the rest. This label is for the savvy girl the IT girl the adventurous girl – the girl who likes accessorize and isn’t afraid to make a statement!

I caught up with Patrice the creative genius behind the label!

What inspired your move into fashion?

I have always been interested in fashion. When I was a teenager I attended sewing classes and then as a young adult I enrolled in a BA course studying fashion design. In my working adult life I spent over 12 years publishing a fashion and lifestyle magazine but I decided I needed to change career paths and I ended up enrolling in London College of Fashion’s Handbag Design degree program.

Instantaneously, I fell in love with leather material. It was the leather that inspired me to created accessories. I haven’t looked back since then.

What is the ethos behind Bermuda?

The design ethos of the Bermuda Born label is simple. To make high quality, timeless products, and to make them incredibly well.

Who are your fashion icons?

I have never followed any one particular “it” girl or had a celebrity icon. However, growing up with my mom, she would have been my first icon. She wasn’t a huge ‘fashion person’ but she had a classic, feminine way about her which I admired.

When she went to work as a secretary, she used to wear bright red lipstick and heels to work every day. Her hair was always worn long and with loose luscious curls and her brows were perfection.

On the weekends, she transformed into a competitive golfer and so you’d usually find her in full golf attire. That sportswear translated into her casual look when she wasn’t on the golf course so I think that’s how I’ve come to fuse a sporty yet feminine look into my own style.

Describe your perfect day and night looks

I dress according to how I feel and the kind of day or night event it will be. If I go out shopping on the weekend, I would mix sportswear with a pair of jeans and colourful trainers or stylish flats.

I like to feel relaxed but still look modern and pulled together. I’ll always have my classic leather Bermuda Born Warwick tote with me as it is versatile and can hold everything.

If I have a night out I prefer to wear a short black dress or a dress that is tailored. The look I usually go for can be described as feminine and romantic. I’ll finish it off with statement earrings, a pair of heels and a clutch purse.

Who are your customers?

The kind of person that buys a Bermuda Born handbag is interested in function and style.

The women who carry Bermuda Born handbags are confident, they are entrepreneurs to professionals, and they are trailblazers who know what they want.

They need a product that can fit into their busy lifestyle all while making a statement.

What are your handbag essentials?

My handbag essentials: I have my Bermuda Born Warwick Tote bag that I wear almost everyday to work. I always keep clutch purses for nights out or if I need to make a quick run to the grocery shop. I have very simple leather clutches to very elegant ones.

I also keep the cross body bag that I like to wear when I don’t need to carry my large tote. I wear the Bermuda Born Paget purse which is a classic style lady bag with short handles that I’d wear to a wedding or fancy dress event.

Who would you love to wear your pieces?

I would love for these well-known women to represent Bermuda Born. They are Michelle Obama, Catherine Zeta Jones (who lives in Bermuda periodically), Beyonce, Gabrielle Union, Alicia Keyes, Meagan Good and Adele. These women all represent strength, success and class.

What is your perfect holiday destination?

My perfect holiday destination. I like places like Jamaica for the culture and food, adventurous road trips through Portugal, skiing the Alps in Spring, music festivals in the USA, and of course my favorite would be on the pink sandy beaches of Bermuda or boating around the island with a rum punch in hand!

We love your use of color – what new colours can we expect ?

I wish to add more vibrant colors to the brand such as greens, purples, deep oranges, grey-blue, yellows.

Where do you see yourself and Bermuda in 5 years?

In 5 years, I’d like to have a full range of men’s leather goods and to have a separate sportswear-inspired line of bags for both men and women.

Thank you! We can’t wait to see more from you!
